magoot brian - eddie hazel
Gotta love that one. Its up there for sure

09-24-2006, 03:00 AM
It's kind of embarrasing. I hear people say "Stairway to Heaven's solo OF COURSE! ANYONE WHO DISAGREES = RETARD!"

But I'll put it in the open and say the solo from Betrayed by Avenged Sevenfold. I heard it, put it on my ipod, wouldn't even listen to the song. I would simply fast forward it to the solo.

09-26-2006, 05:42 PM
Dragon Force - Through The Fire And Flames, this song is d dogs go-nads, d whole song has solos from start 2 finish, acoustic at the strt, in the verse background. but the post-chorus n bridge solos r amazin hands down!

09-28-2006, 07:31 AM
mine is probably that totaly awsomely hard solo in wake me up when september ends, evry time i hear that solo i drool.

If you think that's a solo than your a spankin ding dong. A solo is something like Jimmy Page's Stairway To Heaven or anything Slash touches, not a pissy one note emo solo. YOU HAVE NO BALLS

09-28-2006, 03:28 PM
Thin Lizzy-Dancing In The moonlight , for those who havent bowed down to the power of thin lizzy , begin to believe!

10-02-2006, 03:03 PM
It's easy. Jimi Hendrix!
I mean, just listen to Voodoo Chile, Hey Joe, Little Wing or Purple Haze and you'll see what i mean. Thats the greatest solo's ever.
Over and out // ALAX :peace:

10-03-2006, 03:10 PM
Probably Sold My Soul by Zakk Wylde on his acoustic album. It heaps better than No More Tears, it's just that no one's heard of Book of Shadows.

Darn, that has to be the most underrated solo of all time.

Black Sabbath's Warning comes in at a close second and Kenny Wayne Sheppard's Voodoo Chile in third (which I believe is like 9 to 10 minutes long)

01-01-2007, 12:14 PM
In the Song Seize The Day by A7X

I see this alot throughout this thread.

You guys really need to listen to just about any rock band from the 70's and 80's (mainly 80's) or some Hendrix or SRV.

If you think that weak AX7 solo is your favorite you need some more exposure.

sum 41's the bitter end, isn't the craziest solo ever but it was the first sweep picking i had ever heard.

01-21-2007, 04:53 PM
My favorite solo of all time would probably have to be The Unforgiven by Metallica.

01-21-2007, 05:27 PM
not specifically.

many Dream Theater songs. Satch and Vai.

too lazy to list all songs. Ceremony and Crushing Day come to mind by Satch.

01-25-2007, 08:30 PM

Maggot Brain, by Funkadelic, played by Eddie Hazel. Check it out sometime, it rocks.

01-26-2007, 12:08 PM
Best solo for me would definitely have to be Brian Haner Jr.'s solo in Seize the Day. :satan:

and second would have to be Slash's November Rain

01-26-2007, 01:06 PM
Slashs Sweet child o mine. Amazing.

01-26-2007, 05:29 PM
Probably Time or Comfotably Numb by Pink Floyd.

01-26-2007, 05:32 PM

01-28-2007, 12:36 PM
I like the solo in Symphony Of Destruction, Marty Friedman is rather good.
I also like the "solo" in fix you by Coldplay
Wait let me explain myself
Its just like 3 or 4 notes
But its so melodic...
And goes so well with the backing...

Sid Vicouis
01-28-2007, 04:15 PM

The Bitter End - Sum 41
My Sharona! - The Knack
Them Bones - Alice In Chains

01-29-2007, 08:35 AM
Alive, by Pearl Jam, is what first inspired me on the guitar. It still gives me shivers.

Fade to Black has an amazing solo, definitely up there, and Beyond the Realms of Death, the first solo, by Judas Priest is quite amazing. Yngwie, on Black Star, is also worth noting.

02-01-2007, 01:31 PM
OMFG! ok the CRAZIEST bass solo of all time i dont care what you guys say is maxwell murder by rancid. its insane!

02-01-2007, 01:37 PM
Judas Priest-Beyond the Realms of Death.
PS: I just heard Eruption. It was just stupid.

02-01-2007, 01:38 PM
ya everybody download maxwell murder and tell me how crazy that solo is :D

02-03-2007, 01:51 PM
well most people are gonna say eruption...and half of them probably havent heard it. but mine is probably november rain.

That statement is probably the best way to encompass the entire empitome of truth regarding solos. Perfectly said, sir!!!!

I would say November Rain and also Journey's Who's Crying Now.

02-03-2007, 05:29 PM
^ November Rain has a very good solo. Pity about the rest of song :D

Jimi's Star Spangled Banner (yeah, obvious but still amazing) and Eddie Hazel's Maggot Brain are probably two of my favourites. And Kirk Hammet may not be the most original metal soloist but the one in Master Of Puppets is perfect.

02-03-2007, 06:18 PM
I love the Stairway To Heaven solo.

02-03-2007, 07:46 PM
sairway to heaven is my favorite

02-04-2007, 02:50 AM
november rain>stairway

02-04-2007, 05:02 AM
 Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb. Dave Gilmour is a genius.

He's my favourite guiarist right now. How I wish I could play like him :(

I like the second solo more though. But right now my favourite solo is the one in 'Time'. It's truly amazing. I can't stop listening to it.

Metal Massacre
02-04-2007, 05:11 AM
Mr. Crowley.

...and if you didn't know that was Ozzy, you are musically retarded. :D

02-04-2007, 08:11 AM
I'dd go for Kirk's solo in The Unforgiven (from the black album by Metallica). A right from the heart full of feeling solo. Amazing build up aswell. For all who don't know what I'm talking about check it out on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lne7r1iYjZs

02-06-2007, 09:56 AM
Metallica - One (Tapping gunfire)
Guns & Roses - November Rain (Weeping notes - amazing)
Trivium - Detonation (Wow)

Road Runner United Album - In the End (Melodic trade-off solo)

:peace: the solo in Like a Stone by Audioslave is awesome to the max. I can't stop playin' it

02-06-2007, 11:23 PM

Scott McCallum
02-08-2007, 08:53 PM
Your all gonna laugh at me but......My Sharrona by the knack....it flows,it fits perfectly and it rocks!

02-09-2007, 07:27 AM
Free Bird - Lyrnyrd Skynyrd

02-09-2007, 11:17 PM
Everyone will say either Eruption (FAR too long) or ****ing Freebird so I'll say...Eternal Rest by Avenged Sevenfold (no one can come close to Synyster Gates in the metal department) the extended bit at the end of Can't You Hear Me Knockin' by the Stones where Keef and Mick play off one another aaaaaaannnnnddddddd...anything by Dream Theater. Noice.

02-09-2007, 11:51 PM
Floods by Pantera, and Aint Talking Bout Love by Van Halen. The solo in Our Time is Now by Story of the Year is awesome because it sounds like ****ing Top Gun. Another good SOTY solo is Taste the Poison. Fast playing, dive bombs, and tapping all in a span of about 15 seconds. SOTY is underrated because their first album was too mainstream, but their second album is badass.

02-10-2007, 10:15 PM
Children of Bodom punch me i bleed +1

02-11-2007, 02:25 PM
Your all gonna laugh at me but......My Sharrona by the knack....it flows,it fits perfectly and it rocks!
that's a rip off of a Dead Kennedys song "Pull My Strings" hence my hatred for the knack

02-11-2007, 07:17 PM
The Air That I Breathe - All That Remains (awesome :D)

02-11-2007, 07:22 PM

02-13-2007, 05:49 PM
In the best solo thread in the Classic rock discussion, I said Paradise City. I stand by that, although Guns and Roses isn't my favorite band, nor is Slash my favorite guitarist, I love the solo.

02-20-2007, 06:18 AM
Pearl Jam-Even Flow wow!!1

Metallica - The Unforgiven
Demons & Wizards - Beneath These Waves
Hammerfall - In Memoriam
Joe Satriani - Souls of Distortion

03-07-2007, 11:56 AM
Dancing Mad by The Black Mages, best videogame song EVER turned into the best solo EVER

03-07-2007, 12:02 PM
I like a lot of solos, Weezer solos are some of my favorites because they remain original despite not having to shred or go nuts with guitar.

My favorite solo of all time I think would be Texas Flood by SRV, man thats amazing.

Lately I like the solo in "Sieze the Day" by Avenged Sevenfold, very Slash inspired and just very melodic and enjoyable to listen, again one of those solos that doesn't need to really shred to be enjoyable.

03-07-2007, 02:10 PM

Randy Rhoads Duh???

03-08-2007, 03:19 AM
I've been listening to a lot of thrash lately, so I'll say the solos from "Terror Zone" and "Agents of Brutality" by Kreator, considering I'm listening to the Coma of Souls album right now. Also, someone mentioned Satch above, so I'll say Flying in a Blue Dream. That song speaks to me everytime I hear it. Also have to go with Neil Young's "jam" solos on Down By The River and Cowgirl in The Sand. Both classics.

03-08-2007, 11:20 PM
Well the song has a special meaning to me, but the solo from "hey" off the Chilli's stadium arcadium CD. the sweet dist + wah gives me chills

03-08-2007, 11:28 PM
Wes Montgomery's solo on the song Full House(off the album of the same name).

04-05-2007, 10:55 AM
The best solo ever is obviously Hotel California by Eagles. End of argument...

04-05-2007, 01:09 PM
The Down Town by Days of the New, Straight Out Of Line by Godsmack and the solo in Sappy by Nirvana is pretty good. Simple but it sounds good. I love all of Jerry Cantrell's stuff though.

04-06-2007, 01:00 AM
The solo on "Into the Pit" is very underrated. Alex Skolnick is a ****ing god and had a lot more technical and catchy solos, but for some reason it sticks out for me.

04-06-2007, 01:04 AM
The Free bird Solo SUCKS. It is a boring, repetitive pentatonic wank. There is nothing special about it, so all you people who worship this ridiculously long solo is a dumbass. How can anyone love a solo that lasts three minutes and only uses pentatonic licks that are played over, and over, and over again. GET OVER THIS BULLSHIT SOLO.

04-06-2007, 03:37 PM
Fermented Offal Discharge by Necrophagist is one of my favorite solos, but I couldn't just pick one and stay with it.

04-07-2007, 12:08 AM
The solo in Funeral Thirst by The Black Dahlia Murder

04-08-2007, 09:24 PM
Freebird and Turn it Again (RHCP), you have to give the man some credit, in freebird solo there were like 2 or 3 guitarists (I dont remember the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd), but in turn it again the man did it by himself! playing all the tracks, he'd to have lots of concentration and playing skills.
Also love Wet sand (so awesomely soultouching)

04-08-2007, 09:49 PM
Root Of All Evil - Dream Theater

Actually, I just love the song.

04-09-2007, 01:58 PM
ok i read through this list and found a lot metal which is cool but i thought i would throw some other solos in.
dire straits sultons of swing
steely dan reeling in the years (love the tone)
I also can not say these are my favs becuase like so many of you my taste change but i do love these solos and thought they should have some mention.

04-12-2007, 07:47 AM
The Angry Again solo by Megadeth, hm the song sounds kinda album fillerish but theres something i love about the solo.

04-12-2007, 08:13 AM

Deinetly Floods by Pantera. GIves me goosebumps every time I hear it and all of Dime's other solos for that matter. I love the composed-ish part in the beginning and the outro at the end and the middle is ridiculous, especially scince he came up with it when he was 16!!God I miss dime...... :(

05-02-2007, 09:06 AM
Favorite solo?

The only one I can think of now is Eric Clapton's solo from the live preformance of "My Back Pages" in Madison Square Garden for Bob Dylan's 20th anniversary...that's what it says on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bUch5dveX0) at least...

It was great. Made me go all nostalgic. =]

05-03-2007, 03:52 PM
My favorite changes all the time, but right now it's Adrian Belew's solo in this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZbOdgevxDE) live version of King Crimson's Elephant Talk (starts at 3:26)

05-04-2007, 08:36 AM

05-04-2007, 08:31 PM
The second solo in Master of puppets is pretty cool, it's not the hardest thing to play but it sounds damn cool and suits the song.

Too many to name...Since I've Been Lovin' You by Led Zep is definitely up there, and so is Brian May's short-but-sweet solo from Bohemian Rhapsody. If I had to choose one, it'd either be Heartbreaker by Zeppelin or Crossroads by Cream. I dunno.

06-11-2007, 01:24 PM

does't remind me by audioslave....wah wah abuse!!!!

07-20-2007, 01:33 AM
Theres no such thing as wah abuse! (especially if its tom morello)

My favorite solos are the short ones that don't intrude on the song very much. The new static-x album has many of these.

07-20-2007, 03:19 AM
God, this is really hard, there's so many great ones. Maybe Under A Glass Moon by Dream Theater. The Original Fire solo by Audioslave is really funny and i love it, but, i don't know, it's a hard decision.

07-20-2007, 04:14 AM
Favoritist solo of all times and peoples?

hehe...you must be made out of crazies.

As of late, the probablility of my favorite solo would have to be either "The Stillborn One" or "Fermented Offal Discharge", both by Necrophagist.

07-22-2007, 11:42 PM
my favorite solos are free bird, stairway to heaven, which probably aren't surprising. I like While my guitar gently wheeps, hotel california, the insane stuff on that def leppard cd that came out before high n dry. my favorite though, would have to be johnny b goode. Chuck berry is an amazing guitarist.
