my favorite solo changes all the time but my recent favorite is blackened-metallica. i love whatever kirk does at 5:19 through the song. i dont know if its powerchords or whatever but it sounds so awesome. it might sound gay to you but i love it.

my other all time favorites are

eagles-hotel california
cream-white room
GNR-november rain

and probly my favorite ever
fade to black -metallica

it has that awesome harmonized riff building up then he finally starts the solo. it keeps getting awesomer and awesomer until he finally hits that high note at 6:27. its like he busted a musical nut. the tension keeps building then he hits that note and the songs over

Page's solo in 'Since i've been loving you'. It's just supreme.
The live version(s) of that are about 5 times as good as the recording. He does a lot of improv and it makes for a really awesome sound.

My favorite solo? Hmm...

Floods by Pantera (there's so many pinch harmonics...)
A Fire in Babylon by Shadow's Fall
either of the solos in Windowpane by Opeth

Those are a few simply orgasmic solos. Especially the Opeth and Pantera ones.

Mine would have to be that uber 1337 guitar solo by John Petrucci in Beyond This Life on SFAM by DT from 7:20 - 8:17 because it's got some wicked wah wah pedal work in there. Also his guitar solo on the song Octavarium from 21:27 - 23:00 (although his vibrato lasts until ~23:43) because it's so chalk full of emotion that every time I listen to it I tingle all over and feel good inside.

I love the solo in Alive by Pear Jam. I think Mike Mccready is an awsome guitar player. His solos are really cool. I think the solo for Nothing As It Seems sounds awsome. it kinda sounds like a david gilmour kind of solo. The little solo bit at the end of I Am Mine is pretty cool too. other than those hotel california, cliffs of dover, fade to black, walk, and war pigs are all good.

Shut up. You think anyone is impressed by all the pointless Greenday bashing? Why do you hate them so much? Just because everyone else does and you're a sheep? Even if you don't think Greenday have the best solo ever doesn't mean you're right, and at what point did difficulty have anything to do with how good music is? There are are loads of songs and solos that aren't technically difficult but can affect people emotionally, which is much more difficult to do, and is surely the reason people create music. You could've just came into this thread, said a few of your favourite solos and left but you couldn't resist proving how hardcore you are by spewing a load of shite that had no relevance to anything. Nice club by the way (yes that was deliberate), is this your thing on UG? Rip on bands that are mainstream to try to get a bit of notoriety? What the hell's the point? No-one, other than similarly simple rebels, cares.

All of the solos in their!

somebody_123
12-29-2005, 09:04 PM
Dream Theater-As I Am, The Glass Prison Intro, Blind Faith (5:13 into the song), Lie, the Intro to "Scarred" and the outro to "Goodnight Kiss"

Metallica-Battery (like the wah), Fade to Black outro, The Unforgiven

Nightwish-Nemo (fairly easy, but fits the song)

Pink Floyd-Time (great melody)

Finger Eleven-Stay in Shadow (not awesome at all, but still cool sounding)

Alter Bridge-Burn It Down, Find the Real

Green Day-Wake Me Up When September Ends

^I am NOT kidding at ALL, that solo fits the song SO well and is the perfect climax to that section. So what if its one of the easiest solos ever written, and so what if Green Day are mainstream? They're good at what they do, so don't hate them just cause everyone else does, just look at my sig, man.

My favorite would have to be the solo in Nirvana's Serve the Servants.

guitarsolo91

It's hard to pick a favorite solo but if I had to it would either be the solo in Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses or the great octave change Jimmy Page uses in Whole Lotta Love.
By the way, the solo in Wake Me Up When September Ends is probably rated one of the worst solo's of all time.

alright dude...im sorry to say this but someone has to.

My and many other peoples view on green day."Hi, I'm Billy, lead singer of a band that used to kick ass. I enjoy ruining modern rock as we know it, I also I enjoy wearing my guitar strap so low that I look like im good, even though I can't fret the guitar right when it's that low."

ok im done, no more dissing greenday.

Then i'll have to qoute the crowd: "Green Day blow away all competition in the 2001 California Music Awards (formerly the Bammies.) They won 8 statuettes: Outstanding Album (Warning), Outstanding Punk Rock/Ska Album (Warning), Outstanding Group, Outstanding Male Vocalist (Billie Joe Armstrong), Outstanding Bassist (Mike Dirnt), Outstanding Drummer (Tre Cool) Outstanding Songwriter (Armstrong) and Outstanding Artist for the group."

Huh? Whats happening? Well that was in the 01's, lets take a look at their American Idiot album: "American Idiot was nominated for seven Grammy Awards, and won the Best Rock Album of 2005. The opening track of the album, "American Idiot", won an award for best song in a video game in EA Sports' Madden NFL 2005. Green Day also won seven MTV Video Music Awards for the Boulevard of Broken Dreams and American Idiot videos."

Ohh no even more: "American Idiot has sold 4.0 million units in the US as of August 2005."

And now i ask you: How can you say that Green Day is poor at making music? Maybe you dont understand what nuances that reflects in their music, maybe you dont understand the simplicity in their genius music? Caus' it seems every other human gets it... Its just like saying Britney Spears make poor music... Well you dont become a superstar with bad music...

Thx

And the final qoute: I don't like Green Day either...

/rant.

Listen they suck because they suck not because they are mainstream. And the wake me up solo sucks.

Well my favorite solo is Jimmy Page's White Summer, Black Mountain. Just him sitting playing for about 15 minutes, if you consider that a solo. Or Stariway. He's amazing. But I'm tired of reading all this Green Day crap. Green Day used to be good back when they were punk. Now they're old corprate sell-outs with no punk audience, yet they still call themselves punk. cheers to the guy who said "Blood & Roses" by the Smithereens, they are rather underrated.

I am going to catch some **** for this, but I find Claudio and Travis's solo-trading at the end of "Welcome Home" awesome.

It must be also a Yngwie Malmsteen song called "I don't know" the way he uses wah-wah is amazing but mabye another of his songs that is high up on my list is his "Never die" it's one of his fastest solos. Also Dream Theaters "The glass prison" is John Petrucci at his best with the superfast interlude thing near the middle and the solo battle between the keyboard and him near the end its a dam long song so to try and find it may take a long time (13:52).

Dragonforce - Through The Fire ANd The Flames is pretty good, and Jambi solo by Tool with the talk box is alright.

I think my favourite is the outro solo to "I don't know" - Lostprophets
I know alot of people have been bashing the guys who post like "Greenday", but this solo is one of the first fast solo's I heard that wasn't just EVH just ripping away, so It had an appeal. I suppose my favorite solos would have to be the 2 in Architecture of Aggression by Megadeth, I'm also suprised that I'm the only one on here that has posted a megadeth song, oh well. Also, I don't think it's a good thing for people to be bashing other people's favorite songs on here. While I understand that bands like Green Day and similar bands aren't as musically developed as some other bands listed and even though those bands aren't something that I listen to, I do respect their ability to put a lot of energy into their songs. Another thing that bothers me is the people that base how good a band is on how many records it has sold and the awards it has won, that just means a whole bunch of people have no true understanding of better bands that just deserve the awards and sales more due to musical ability.

i not gonna name any rush/pink floyd/classic rock solos cuz there is too many to count. i am also not gonna name any arch enemy/trivium/inflames/dragonforce/dream theater cuz there is too many to count. sooooo my favourite AT THIS MOMENT is probly pulse of the maggots by slipknot, but the best live solo is this by DARON MALAKIAN ~ PSYCHO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hamUF9aVVgU&search=daron%20malakian%20solo

i can't believe nobody has yet said "Sultans of Swing" by the delightful Dire Straits.

I second that one, simply amazing.

Eruption..........................is a piece of crap. It's garbage. As much as I love Eddie, and his various riffs and solos, Eruption is nothing more than a big licks and tricks display. I seriously can barely listen to it, and usually just skip through it en route to You Really Got Me.

Ain't Talkin Bout Love- Van Halen

Ice Cream Man-Van Halen(Blows Eruption out of the water IMO.)

I saw pearl jam live in vegas, McCready did a Six minute long guitar solo in even flow. Unfortunatly I left halfway through the second encore, and when I bought the concert data from pearljam.com I found taht they did another 6min solo at the end of Porch(my favorite PJ song) :(
