Who will be the best band of 2006?

View Full Version : Who will be the best band of 2006?

Random dude
01-01-2006, 12:33 AM
Hey, in 2005 SOAD was the best band of the year(in my opinion anyways). Who do you think will be the best band of 2006?

01-01-2006, 12:37 AM
If someone doesnt assassinate (sp?) Green Day, they'll probably make it. Maybe Audioslave? Stonesour? I don't know.

01-01-2006, 12:37 AM
Pearl Jam

01-01-2006, 12:37 AM
I think Tool has potential. (And as one of my favorites, I hope that they are in the running)
I can't wait for their new CD.
Also, Red Hot Chili Peppers could have another big one, with their double-disc due out this spring.
Metallica is supposedly going to re-ignite their solo-playing of old, which could spaw a long overdue comeback.

01-01-2006, 12:38 AM
Audioslave / Green Day / AC/DC

01-01-2006, 12:38 AM
Over my dead body will someone assaniate Green Day!

Green Day
Fall Out Boy
My Chemical Romance
System Of A Down
i'm guessing

01-01-2006, 12:40 AM
i really dont know who would be the best of '06. we can only speculate. 10 years, perhaps, or metallica, i would like to hear their new album. and AC/DC is supposed to have a new album, so that could be pretty sucessful

01-01-2006, 12:41 AM
the beatles....

they're due for a comeback

(btw, thats a joke)

01-01-2006, 12:41 AM
bodom, maybe even trivium even if they are overrated. in fact, its because their overrated. they rock though

01-01-2006, 12:42 AM
I think Radiohead will finally have their year in 2006.

01-01-2006, 12:42 AM
Ohh, I forgot to mention Radiohead.
I am really looking forwards to hearing their new stuff.

01-01-2006, 12:43 AM

01-01-2006, 12:44 AM
Don't know. I have high hopes for:
Less Than Jake
The Offspring
Angels and Airwaves

01-01-2006, 12:49 AM
Im thinking Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica, my two favourite bands. I think if theyre going back a bit into their roots they will become huge once again.

AC/DC will do great also.

01-01-2006, 01:35 AM
I think the most successful will be Red Hot Chili Peppers, but don't count out Tool, Radiohead, or Incubus.

[with teeth]
01-01-2006, 06:26 AM
Children Of Bodom.
Pearl Jam, anyone?

01-01-2006, 08:27 AM
I think if they keep up they don't release a bad album Avenged Sevenfold . but it can also be Green Day ( if they release another great album ), tool, Metallica ( if they go back to their roots ), The Strokes or Radiohead

01-01-2006, 08:29 AM
^ forgot to say RHCP

01-01-2006, 08:50 AM
tool, rhcp and pearl jam are the best bets in my opinion.

i really doubt that metallica will get around to releasing an album in the coming year, and even if they do it'll probably be the usual story of failing to live up to the old school material.

the offspring no longer inspire me the way they did 7 or 8 years ago, and i think their best music is also well and truly behind them.

radiohead are a great band but they seem pretty unpredictable to me, so i will wait with interest to see what they spit out

green day's american idiot songs i could go without hearing for the rest of my life. i have been so friggin saturated with their singles for close to 2 years that i am starting to hate a band i once loved

01-01-2006, 08:54 AM
Over my dead body will someone assaniate Green Day!

Green Day
Fall Out Boy
My Chemical Romance
System Of A Down
i'm guessing

Not one of those bands has an album coming out this year.

In fact, American Idiot was released in 2004.

01-01-2006, 03:09 PM

01-01-2006, 03:12 PM
Muse, Chilis, Tool and Incubus. It'll be a good year.

01-01-2006, 03:22 PM
^^i agree with your list

01-01-2006, 04:36 PM
green day/ my chemical romance, fall out boy, or maybe the used cuz they've got another album coming out......................

01-01-2006, 05:03 PM
Velvet Revolver
Iron Maiden

*if they actually release the cds I've been hearing about

01-02-2006, 08:52 AM
I hope Metallica will release an album that actually showcases their musical ability. It's anyone's guess at this point, though.

Tool, Muse, and Iron Maiden sound promising.

frying nemo08
01-02-2006, 10:40 AM
muse is the only band that has been said so far that i think could be concitered for band of the year because most of the other bands are insanely huge, like RHCP, so people will be expecting amazing things from them. and then you have muse who have a large amount of fans but are not too big to be concitered for this.

i dont think that a superstar band like RHCP or Radiohead really can be a band of the year because the expectations for them are set so high it is hard for them to reach them let alone go further than expectations.

01-02-2006, 11:19 AM
Coheed and Cambria. Perhaps Angels And Airwaves? But Co&Ca do have potential!

01-02-2006, 12:09 PM
Green Day
Fall Out Boy
My Chemical Romance
System Of A Down

Not one of those bands has an album coming out this year.

In fact, American Idiot was released in 2004.

Actually, MCR does have a CD coming out this year, and Green Day might have a new album around December (hopefully they will rerecord the "lost album", Cigarettes and Valentines as well. I hear that it "wasn't for the posers"). New SOAD album would be good and doubtful.

Oh yes, sorry I added that list to your post, I just had to put it in context.

01-02-2006, 12:26 PM
I hate to burst your bubbles guys, but I'm 90% sure the new RHCP album won't be very good. If you think about it, they haven't had a consistent album since Blood Sugar Sex Magik. So it's pretty unlikely they'll have a consistent double album. I'm willing to bet at least half of it's going to be filler.

01-02-2006, 12:40 PM
Mettalica sounds abit of a highlight in 2006, considering their album won't be like St. Anger then it may be quite impressive but who knows?

01-02-2006, 12:48 PM
tool,pearl jam,velvet revolver,audioslave,and RHCP

01-02-2006, 04:31 PM
Velvet revolver.

01-02-2006, 05:44 PM
What new bands?? Your all just naming old bands.. i think Artic Monkeys will be big..

01-02-2006, 06:19 PM
velvet revolver,
guns n roses

01-02-2006, 08:02 PM

01-02-2006, 08:11 PM
Metallica if their new album is really gay like St. Anger or maybe Avenged Sevenfold

01-02-2006, 08:16 PM
Audioslave will have the best year for sure. Morello is amazing and Cornell has a larger vocal range than any other lead singer. They are going to release another huge album and be by far the best band of 2006. I rest my case.

01-03-2006, 08:57 AM
I'm really starting to get annoyed by the Arctic Monkeys. Everyone keeps saying they're geniuses and the best band ever when they've only had one overrated song out.

Band of 2006?: Flogging Molly I don't care that no one else likes them, I'm just being stubborn.

01-03-2006, 09:02 AM
Velvet Revolver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

01-03-2006, 09:09 AM
trivium, children of bodom

01-03-2006, 12:08 PM
RHCP. Double album. It will not be topped.

01-03-2006, 07:02 PM
stop trying to predict the future....................... only weather people can do that.
though i do agree with the RHCP prediction

01-03-2006, 07:59 PM
^Actually, they can't really do that too well either.

01-04-2006, 08:34 PM
Depends on how well their album is commercially accepted, but Primus is coming out with some new stuff. Les Claypool is love, he's bound to come up with some great stuff for it. Then again, the chilluns either don't know who Primus is or can't stand them, so they'll probably be unknown again. =(

01-04-2006, 08:41 PM
maybe "stroke" with "juicy, juice", haha(new single)

"the strokes"

01-04-2006, 08:44 PM
children of bodom

01-04-2006, 08:46 PM
I have a feeling The Offspring will get big for the third time, much like Green Day did.

01-04-2006, 09:16 PM
^Right you are.

01-04-2006, 09:32 PM
RHCP- legends of rock
Bright Eyes- cool new indie stuff

01-04-2006, 10:29 PM
I'm really not sure. After I heard Green Day's first single, I wouldn't have called that kind of success in a million years. But it happened.

If Metallica puts out a good album, I think they will explode onto the scene again. If they make St. Anger x2, they're finished and nobody will give a crap anymore. I even think that St. Anger is going to make some people ahem...download before buying. hehe

If Offspring can get something out that's really catchy, they'll steal the scene again too.

BTW predicting the weather isn't impossible. They look at radar pictures, identify coldfronts and warm fronts and analyse the trends. Okay, that's just a bit oversimplified, but there's science behind it, not magic.

01-04-2006, 11:16 PM
^I knew that there was a science behind weather predictions, I was just making a joke. (Sorry if this is off topic)

01-04-2006, 11:22 PM
:headbang: disturbed

im not mental
01-05-2006, 01:31 PM
tool, rhcp, and possibly AFI and In Flames.

01-05-2006, 01:37 PM
Tool's new album will define 2006 for me, depending on what it's like. If it even half lives up to the hype it's going to be phenominal.

RHCP i don't think will have As big an impact as they should get, I don't think a double album is A great idea.

If Metallica Grow More hair and Solo again (as well as locking Lars in a soudproof box for a while) they could well do a good album. But as others have said, if it's st anger take two, they will be finished in the eyes of pretty much anyone who matters.

01-05-2006, 01:56 PM
u should be watchin for
panic! at the disco and
Arctic Monkeys
gonna be huge and everybody else who sed another band will be wrong

01-05-2006, 08:06 PM
Probably some new Indie band that hasn't been formed yet.

01-06-2006, 12:13 AM
If Metallica makes impresses us with solo's more james catchy riffs from st anger (hey hes got good ones) and maybe a rob solo then My god
so far basically every album they put out a song can be called one of their greatest.
So I'm looking forward to my favorite band

Yea probably tool too cause well... wow

But honestly probably some emo bullShi.. band will win cause that trend is here to stay for a looonggg time.

01-06-2006, 02:09 AM
Fort Minor???? Lol!

01-06-2006, 05:54 AM

can't wait for both those new albums

Voxel Mitosis
01-06-2006, 08:37 AM
Why are people saying Children of Bodom? They degenerated into complete crap.

Anyway, I'll say Iron Maiden, since they are coming out with a new album I believe.

01-06-2006, 10:58 AM
I'm hoping either OLP, The White Stripes, or Franz Ferdinand might put out something this year. Thats about all I'll be looking forward to

01-07-2006, 10:46 AM
RHCP, Muse and Radiohead. Hopefully The Raconteurs will make a good album.

Andrew Zara
01-07-2006, 05:11 PM
Tool and Godsmack

01-08-2006, 09:43 PM
Chilis all the way. They are, if things go well, releasing a double album. They're in it for a great year.

r a c e t h e
01-10-2006, 09:43 PM
use as directed... up and coming band. might not have heard of them before or not

01-12-2006, 03:32 PM
Definitly the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I think that the Foos will take a good long break, to make sure they don't go all mainstrem-ey. On the subject of mainstream-ey-ness, [begin fantasy] Billie Joe Armstrong will realise that he's created a monster, and end Green Day. [End fantasy]. Whoa, that was the best fantasy ever.

04-12-2006, 06:40 PM
angels and airwaves....rhcp.....muse....and soad.....predictable methinks

04-12-2006, 07:01 PM
tv on the radio

04-12-2006, 07:26 PM
define "best"

04-12-2006, 08:07 PM
it's hard to say, there are so many great bands coming up with new albums this year- radiohead, tool, rhcp, audioslave, muse..

i think any of them have a good shot

04-12-2006, 08:49 PM
I think the Band of 2006 is Green Day. They rock. :)

04-12-2006, 09:39 PM
Tool and RHCP, maybe Pearl Jam.

04-12-2006, 10:01 PM
Dirty Pretty Things, and The Strokes

04-12-2006, 10:23 PM
Who bumped this thread???

I haven't seen it since January...

04-12-2006, 11:15 PM
Either A Fire Inside or Angels and Airwaves in my opinion

04-13-2006, 02:58 PM
Anti-Flag, becuase their new album ****ing rules. It is the **** and now their on a major label everyone should hear of them soon.....

04-24-2006, 12:07 PM
Dunno, it depends, I have extremely high hopes for:
Evanescence...don't flame on me...
My Chemical Romance
Reason being they're all releasing albums sometime in the next 6 months (except for MCR who are due around autumn).

It depends which band out of those impresses me most.

04-24-2006, 01:04 PM
TOOL will dominate,everyone.

04-24-2006, 06:43 PM
Obviously outside of the commercial swamp, I think the new Alexisonfire album "Crisis" will be pretty goddamn amazing.

04-24-2006, 07:24 PM
Tool and RHCp obciously, but can't forget The Strokes,^Alexisonfire^,and The Racontuers.

04-25-2006, 07:24 AM
Chili Peppers all the way!!! hahhaha i cant wait for Stadium Arcadium... im counting down the weeks till i can get me mits on it! :) good to see most ppl in agreement! ^__^

but i do think that green day may get it... which makes me sad.. seing as green day's won just about every mtv grammy or choice award in existance... i reckon its just been overkilled on the radio.. i mean everywhere i go, all i hear is green day... i cant even listen to a song of theirs anymore cause im just so sick of their stuff... dont get me wrong, but its just making me start to hate a band i used to love so much!

with placebos new album, that may bring them back into the game... im also eagerly waiting for that new metallica!!! till, my vote goes, most definitely to rhcp!

04-25-2006, 08:07 AM
Red Hot Chilli Peppers :)

Has Many Issues
04-25-2006, 08:39 AM
Red Hot Chili Peppers.

There's some metal bands I like that are coming out with new albums but I guaruntee it won't be as good as Stadium Arcadium :)

04-25-2006, 11:14 AM
Radiohead, i hope

nobody mentioned metallica ? new album should be out soon

04-25-2006, 01:01 PM
And AFI!!! they will rock your box!!

Syn Harvest
04-25-2006, 01:43 PM
Ya System did dominate 2005 but i think there massive run is over as Hypnotize wasnt as good as Mesmerize which IMO mezmerize will probably be the best thing they ever put out Past Present and Future. I think this year will be the Year of the Peppers as Stadium Arcadium is likely to kickass. and if metallica can get there **** together and put out something decent they will probably own most of 2007 as then new album isnt expected out until late fall

04-25-2006, 01:54 PM
Radiohead or Muse. God please let some non-metalish or pop-punk ****e be it this year.

04-25-2006, 02:42 PM
Is going to be a good year.

RHCP: Stadium Arcadium is a big promise and I believe is going to be unstoppable.

Metallica: they are like the whine, the older they get the better they are and now with this old school album they are going rock very hard

Audioslave: always kick ass. Man, when they are going to stop!? (come to Cuba again please)

Green Day: don't know what to say. They are very good and one of my favorite bands but American Idiot was very big and do something better sound difficult

The Offspring: with the punk-explosion and the Green Day American Idiot Fever I hope they do something good

04-25-2006, 05:36 PM
Radiohead, i hope

nobody mentioned metallica ? new album should be out soon

I heard it's not gonna be out till 2007.

Syn Harvest
04-25-2006, 05:41 PM
No the New Metallica album Should be out Late 2006 like November

04-25-2006, 05:51 PM

04-25-2006, 06:01 PM
It is between Tool and RHCP...and I'm hoping for the former though I like both bands. I kinda have a feelings it's gonna be the chili pepers though just because it goes back to the same thing about them having a wider fan base...they're simply a little more 'out there' than Tool.
Anyway, I don't think Radiohead will lag to far behind either. I'm looking forward to their new stuff.

04-25-2006, 06:18 PM
Pearl Jam.

04-26-2006, 07:43 AM
I'm also going to have to go with afi on this one. So far the new album seems to have that pop screamo feel to it that people will probably jump onto once the album is out.

04-26-2006, 03:03 PM
Om, Conference of the Birds is amazing. It's doom taken past perfection.

04-26-2006, 06:20 PM
It won't be AC/DC or Metallica for sure.

I dunno.... maybe the Chili Peppers if their new album has enough singles.

04-28-2006, 07:42 PM
Im gonna say (Of course this being my personal opinion) that it will come down to Iron Maiden, Metallica and Tool.

04-29-2006, 01:31 PM
im gotta say Taking Back Sunday, they are goin on a huge tour, they got that new cd, they are really workin hard, seems they have a chance

04-30-2006, 11:10 AM
Muse: Oh god I hope they hit it big with this one. Can't wait till it comes out.
RHCP: Anything these guys put out becomes classic by default, so there you go.
Tool: It's definately one of the better albums coming out this year, but I'm not sure that they will get enough attention to be the "Band of the Year".
AFI: They're last one created quite a stir, I can only assume they've improved.
Radiohead: This one's a long shot, but It'd be nice to see them get some spotlight.

04-30-2006, 02:45 PM
Muse: Oh god I hope they hit it big with this one. Can't wait till it comes out.
AFI: They're last one created quite a stir, I can only assume they've improved.
Radiohead: This one's a long shot, but It'd be nice to see them get some spotlight.

^^Seconded, esp. Muse.

04-30-2006, 09:49 PM

and since i saw a thread with more than 2000 posts of tool....im gonna (RIGHT NOW) download some of their music...

05-01-2006, 09:31 PM
RHCP or Tool

05-02-2006, 12:53 PM
GN'R, Hanoi Rocks and Velvet Revolver...

05-03-2006, 11:33 AM
rhcp and gnr

05-03-2006, 11:53 AM
Not one of those bands has an album coming out this year.

In fact, American Idiot was released in 2004.

Actually, MCR r plannin a return late this year.. doubt in time 2 be called best band of the year tho!!

05-03-2006, 11:55 AM
(ignore the part bout American Idiot in the quote^^^^)

05-04-2006, 03:32 PM
with statium arcadium definately rhcp

05-04-2006, 11:33 PM
For 2006, I definately think the chili peppers will have a great year, with Dani California doing so well already, and the album isn't even out yet. I think Green Day had their run in 2004-2005. Their popularity will probably die down a bit now that American Idiot is out of singles, their tour is over, and American Idiot is two years old.

05-04-2006, 11:44 PM
Well, I think Tool might end up being one of the top bands this year..especially after selling 600,000 copies of the new album on realease date alone....in the U.S. alone! That's alot for a band that doesn't get as much airplay or video time as many other bands out there do. :D
I'm sure the Chili Peppers will be up there as well though.

05-05-2006, 12:09 AM
Red Hot Chili Peppers. Knowing them, they're bound to have at least a few more chart toppers somewhere in that double album.

05-05-2006, 04:30 PM
rchp, gnr and velvet revolver

05-06-2006, 02:46 PM
THE DARKNESS!!! will surely take over the world. They deserve to. They made, in my opinion, the best album of 2005 and will surely conquer the globe in 2006. They're incredible live and if they make another record it will be the greatest ever. The best Rock band on earth!!!!!!!

05-06-2006, 07:22 PM
AFI have been on the radio a lot recently, so they're chances seem to be going up.

05-06-2006, 08:35 PM
thursday orrr taking back sunday

05-06-2006, 11:31 PM
i think the best of 2006 is between green day, billy talent, and afi.

05-06-2006, 11:35 PM
GN'R, Hanoi Rocks and Velvet Revolver...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Hanoi Rocks an early-80's glam-rock band?

05-07-2006, 05:43 AM
Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Raconteurs and The Zutons

05-07-2006, 05:46 AM
Children of Bodom if they keep touring will surly be band of the year...they have a good amount of experiance behind em now to do some big things!!!

05-07-2006, 02:36 PM
Red Hot Chili Peppers... they're really picking up speed now. Everyone at my school has become obsessed with them. Kindof sad, because people who used to make fun of me for liking them are now saying they are diehard fans. Pricks.

05-07-2006, 03:54 PM
AC/DC is realeasing a new album this year i believe, there is an article on this site about it

05-07-2006, 05:08 PM
white stripes

05-07-2006, 07:08 PM
greenday isnt all that good just cause they have emo lyrics in "wake me up when september ends

i think
avenged sevenfold

05-07-2006, 07:56 PM
I don't get it, Green Day definately aren't coming out with an album this year, and probably not next year. Why are we still arguing about them?

05-07-2006, 08:14 PM
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Offspring

05-08-2006, 12:17 AM
I don't get it, Green Day definately aren't coming out with an album this year, and probably not next year. Why are we still arguing about them?

Actually, they are coming out with a new album late this year or early next year.

Oops. Off topic.

05-08-2006, 12:24 AM

05-08-2006, 12:24 AM
hopefully greenday will...

****IN DIE SOON!!!!

05-08-2006, 05:36 AM
This is really off topic but to pUrPle_hAzE, this is me being nice by saying that i think YOU should die soon. Just the fact that theyve created music is already better than your sitting in front of the computer slagging people who've done something better.

ANYWAY, Arctic Monkeys can take it this year IMO.

05-08-2006, 08:47 AM
either the Artcic Monkeys, Trivium or Fall Out Boy, not to say i like Fall out Boy, they're just getting much more popular

05-10-2006, 05:37 PM
Red Hot Chili Peppers deserve it..they've been around forever and still don't get nearly the ammount of credit they deserve.
Other good candidates would be, Tool, Pearl Jam, Audioslave, and any other band that isn't My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy, or Emo period.

"Rap music sucks...and hip-hop doesn't have soul. R&B's not my type...where did you go rock 'n' roll?" - Matt Daly, Bassist, The Benefit

05-10-2006, 07:06 PM
Red Hot Chili Peppers definitely... I agree with everything m_daly_123 said.

05-10-2006, 09:01 PM
the new Metallica album should rock pretty hard, if it is as good as i hope it is then they will be the best band of 06 by far

05-12-2006, 02:05 PM
Not one of those bands has an album coming out this year.

In fact, American Idiot was released in 2004.

My Chemical Romance has "The Rise And Fall Of My Chemical ROmance" Due out later this year. so yeah
There gonna be the best this year

05-12-2006, 03:17 PM
Over my dead body will someone assaniate Green Day!

Green Day
Fall Out Boy
My Chemical Romance
System Of A Down
i'm guessing

SOAD released tow albums this year, they're not doing any this year, footy ;)

Edit: Oops, I meant 2 albums LAST year, keep forgetting we're in 06 *blush*

I don't think SOAD is going to be anything for a long while now. They're going on some hiatus...so this won't be their year..and neither will the next or the following.

For me Coheed & Cambria already are the best band of this year! My Chemical Romance and AFI (new album Decemberunderground soon!) are close contenders though.

RHCP or Pearl Jam. Or, as a new 'Tallica album's coming in winter, and Ulrich said it wont be like St Anger...

Ginger & the Sonic Circus There are no words great enough to describe them!!!

I saw one person mention Billy Talent, they have a new cd comming out this year AND they are on the vans warped tour.
AFI have a new cd AND are the warped tour.

I predict Billy Talent, and AFI for the simple fact they have new albums out and our on the biggest/one of the biggest tours of the summer (plenty of promotion)
The Raconteurs for the simple fact that they sound nothing like the whte stripes (THANK GOD)

Green day dont make me laugh never in a million years will they get the best band, their music sucks really bad and every one and their mother knows who green day is, they were decent in their early years but now they r garbage

05-28-2006, 11:42 AM

avenged sevenfold

They're not releasing an album for another year or two!!!

05-28-2006, 02:04 PM
RHCP said to have 7 singles for their double album so they will most likely dominate.
Angels And Airwaves might do good too but we'll have to wait and see.

05-28-2006, 03:16 PM

Avenged Sevenfold
Green Day
Angels And Airwaves
Fall Out Boy
Panic! At The Disco and

I think Trivium may become huge with The Crusade, Maiden and Megadeth will most likely have a good come back (even though they never went away), Linkin Park (if they release the album anytime soon), and Wolfmother.

This is my personal choice but it has to be The Guillemots (You should get their album "Through the Windowpane" it owns, as seems to be the phrase here on UG)

Other than that.

Arctic Monkeys
The Kooks

The last 3 probably only apply to British music fans though, as does my Guillemots choice.

MEGADETH!!!!! i wish

velvet revolver or audioslave. no one is making better "pure rock" music-with no sub catergory-right now

Whats the story
08-23-2006, 12:02 PM
I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers might be

each time they come round they alway the talk of the town.

08-23-2006, 12:41 PM
the most intriguing music i've heard is Lupe Fiasco, i think his album will come out later this year. Pearl Jam was a solid album as well, i haven't gotten totally into it but it is good. Carl Barat's band is solid too. Overall, not the amazing year for music I hoped for (yet).

08-23-2006, 02:32 PM
RHCP or Alexisonfire hopefully

08-23-2006, 05:22 PM
Guns N' Roses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

08-27-2006, 12:57 AM

And If Green Day ,Fall Out Boy or Panic! at the Disco win my razorblade will start to look very friendly...
