Hey what are some of your guy's favorite metal covers?
i personally like the judas priest song "breaking the law" redone by Ensiferum and "the final countdown" redone by Norther.

i think tornado of souls redone by norther was ok except for the fact that they did the solo on the keyboard which was dissapointing.

Arch Enemy - Symphony of destruction
Dimension Zero - My Demon (King Diamond cover)

Candlemass-Countess Bathory(Venom)

**** that song sucks! Why did they even waste their time on it???

Although - I do really like COB's cover of silent scream (SLAYER!)

Best Metal Cover would be pretty much everything by Apocalyptica, Cat Scratch Fever by Pantera (Teds Original Is Still T3h Pwn) and I heard some crazy Death Metal band do Dont Worry Be Happy by Bob Marley, it was actually REALLY good.

Those are all great, though I didn't know The Sound Of Silence was a cover. Who was it originally done by?

Decapitated - Mandatory Suicide
CC - No remorse

Also good, though I didn't find anything all that great about No Remorse.

Death - Painkiller

Yeah, that was awesome. He totally Shuldinerized the solo making it better.

I really liked Judas Priests cover of Mr. Crowley for some reason, and I haven't even heard the original.

Dream Theater - Master of puppets
They could cover any song and make it sound amazing!

Pantera - Paranoid
Arch enemy - Aces high

Dyer's Eve
01-29-2006, 05:10 PM
At The Gates - Captor of Sin

It may be blasphemy, but in my opinion ATG's version pounds the original into the ground.

EDIT: Sound of Silence was originally by Simon and Garfunkel. I think.

ANYTHING that iced earth has done

Their Iron Maiden covers are ****ing superb. Honestly, they're intense. They took everything Maiden was 25 years ago and processed it through until it sounded like modern day metal.

I just finished transylvania :D

Anyone who reccomended any CoF or CoB: get a ****ing clue, they suck and they totally slaughtered any resembalence of a good tune.

Also, if anyone dares suggest: Powerslave ala Dimmu Borgir flavor I'll have to lynch your ass. That was an atrocity.

Children of Bodom - The Final Countdown ;)

They've never done that one.

cob's trooper was nothing to shout about either.

Never done that one either.

that was Norther

Norther has done a cover of The Final Countdown, but there is another cover of it named Children of Bodom - The Final Countdown, but that's another cover, not the same one.

And to whoever said Dream Theater's version of Master of Puppets: You must be crazy! That cover was aweful! I love Dream Theater to death, but that cover was an abomination. James should NEVER sing thrash metal. Aweful. And when John and Jordan split the guitarsolo playing half on guitar half on the keyboard? That was horrid.

As for Metallica-covers I'd say that Impious did a wicked job on Trapped Under Ice.

Dispatched and Norther both did a cover of TFC.

"The cover of EUROPE's "Final Countdown" (By Norther - track 9) is a drab remake that adds a raspy growl but maintains the original plodding beat. DISPATCHED do a much better job, greatly speeding up the verses and adding in lightning fast leads." (Froma reveiw of Norther's Dreams of Endless war.)

Arch Enemy - Symphony of Destruction is brutal....Angela's sounds like shes curdling on something in that song.

Also honorable mentions:
The Dream Theatre medley (the Queen part is awesome)
Avenged Sevenfold does a pretty decent cover of Pantera's "Walk" during their live show
And I'm probably going to get ****ted on for this but Nightwish's cover of Gary Moore's "Over The Hills and Far Away" is one I really enjoy.

You raise a good point, Watson. Perhaps the point here is that your cranial intellectual capacity is far beyond any of our limits. Ergo, posting in a thread about Metal Covers of other songs about a Metallica Album which contains no relevance? Aiiight, homeslice. Take a chill and kick back, homey.

They absolutely OWNED that song. Solidifies my opinion that the Colony / Clayman era was In Flames highest point.

i think arch enemy's cover of symphony of destruction wasnt so good. the low guitars were cool but it hurt the harmonizing, and i think angelas vocals altho evil as **** just weren't cutting it for the song. i like the different solo tho, they at least tried to make it their own i suppose

I really didn't like that one. I don't think the faster tempo fits it at all, gives the song a way to happy tone. Also didn't like to vocals. He kinda wails out in certain places giving it an American Idol -feel. And he sounds so happy.

Basically any Death Metal band covering Slayer is awesome (Vader/Decapitated/Monstrosity)

And on a side note. At a show last tuesday the first band did a sick cover of Altar Of Sacrifice, after which the drummer did the dundundun which pretty much started half the crowd screaming for them to play Raining Blood for the rest of their set.

dope - rebel yell, spin me right round (billy idol).

'Spin Me Right Round' wasn't Billy Idol, it was Pete Burns/Dead or Alive.

My favourite metal cover ever is Dream Theater's Queen medley on the SE of the new album. I also think Tool version of 'Commando' by The Ramones is pretty good.

Covers are pretty much bands wanting to fill up a demo or full length (or ep for that matter) when they have ran out of original ideas

Worked OK for Decapitated :p:
But in the end, nothing worked ok for Decapitated.

As for covers, that Pat Boone album is pretty cool.

:puke:...

Anyways, I'm not big on covers, I like it when a band will take their own direction with a song-without totally dismantling the original (which isn't the easiest thing to do).

But my favs are Death-Painkiller and Judas Priest-Diamonds and Rust

I'm not a big fan of covers but Parchment Farm, Rock Me Baby, and Summertime Blues by Blue Cheer are all exceedingly well done covers.
