Hey, I know this may sound dumb, but about 2 days ago I cut my finger (almost the whole tip off) and it is my left hand which I use for fingering. It only hurts when I do certin chords in certin songs. Do you have any suggestions so it won't hurt as much anymore? (It is my pointer finger which I use alot while playing)

Uhh...yeah Im no guitar pro but maybe you should wait until it HEALS

02-01-2006, 10:42 PM

02-01-2006, 10:43 PM
yeah dont try playihn lol

02-01-2006, 10:44 PM
Ik, but its so damn hard to wait

02-01-2006, 10:44 PM
Just bust out some tony iommi and loosen ur strings!

02-01-2006, 10:47 PM
ohh that may work thanks

02-01-2006, 10:47 PM
Playing might make it worse, and it will take even longer to heal.

02-01-2006, 10:51 PM
yea it was a VERY deep cut i even have trouble typing with it! a piece of my finger almost came off...

02-01-2006, 10:53 PM
Is it too much to ask how you cut yourself this badly? Just curious really because it sounds pretty bad

02-01-2006, 10:53 PM
yea it was a VERY deep cut i even have trouble typing with it! a piece of my finger almost came off...

dont play even how tempting it is
ull have to wait longer play with a bandaid might help

02-01-2006, 10:57 PM
wait till it heals...

or play, and enjoy the pain...

02-01-2006, 11:12 PM
Play with your other fingers? It's time for finger strengthening:D

02-02-2006, 12:27 AM
Play some slide guitar? lol.

02-02-2006, 12:30 AM
I second the iommi idea.
and make little leather nubs.
and tie them to your fingers.
and just for the helll of it wear leather.

02-02-2006, 02:57 AM
thirded Iommi idea and seconded slide idea. man, and hope it heals.

02-02-2006, 03:03 AM
ummm usuallyy youd go to a doctor and get it stitched or somethimg if you nearly cut the end of your finger off

02-02-2006, 08:06 AM
he didnt say that he didnt..

i wouldnt apply pressure. could get infected. would take longer to heal. even with a finger condom on, the pressure is going to bust it open. yay.

02-02-2006, 08:29 AM
super glue it....... it fixes everything else :D

02-02-2006, 08:46 AM
I KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!!! My bassist in my band has done this when he had some masive cuts on he's fingers and we had to play another 8 songs at this gig!!!
buy lodes of band aids... put about 4-5 on and make sure it stays on!!!

This should bloody work!

02-02-2006, 09:53 AM
Cover the cut with super-glue.

I second waiting. Think long term. You want your cut to heal properly, you don't want to screw anything up further. I know it really sucks, but that's probably your best bet. You can use your downtime to work out your left hand with one of those springy things or stress balls or whatever.

02-02-2006, 11:22 AM
I'd suggest if there is now that you could stop playing until it heals then put a band aid on it. I cut my thumb one time and just put a band aid on and playedk, it kind of kills your sound though.

bandaid?? isnt that like a charity

That my friend is sigged

02-02-2006, 03:59 PM
I nearly took off my finger attempting to pull out a string from my acoustic guitar. The scarring is quite relevant, I couldn't play for weeks. Let it rest. It will do you good.

02-02-2006, 05:54 PM
Are you guys idiots? PLAY, FOOL.

02-02-2006, 05:59 PM
Uhhh wait??? Duhhh....

02-02-2006, 06:05 PM
I'd definately wait until it heals, but use the time to build strength/dexterity in your other fingers. Maybe do alot of 2-handed tapping or scales (be inventive!). But you'll do more damage in the long run if you play using it.

02-02-2006, 06:07 PM
Flip the guitar over and play left handed for a week or so (or right handed, if you're left handed already)

Considering the tip of your finger almost came off, just rip it off, and pretend to be Iommi.

flesh fries
02-02-2006, 06:55 PM
dont play with the tip [where it's cut] try using the pad off your finger

02-02-2006, 06:58 PM
C'mon! No pain, No gain!

02-02-2006, 07:19 PM
tape it with electrical tape. or any tape. it works until it heals.

02-02-2006, 07:54 PM
ya i agree with the iommi idea ... downtune to like c or b or something

02-02-2006, 07:55 PM
wait until it heals. you wouldn't want to **** anything up.

02-02-2006, 08:03 PM
I was just going to say to learn to play with your other fingers. That's what I did when I got a deep cut that took the callous off my left index finger.

Super Glue.

02-03-2006, 11:56 PM

02-12-2006, 03:06 PM
thanks for all the advice. i put like band-aids and duct tape, and loosened the strings. ill be sure to be careful with those sisscor shears next time ;) i really did cut my finger with the shears... damn im so ****en clumsy

02-12-2006, 03:09 PM
Why did you just bump this up for no reason whatsoever?

02-12-2006, 05:20 PM
Could smoke a blunt....

02-12-2006, 08:15 PM
Let it heal. This is a no brainer

02-12-2006, 08:31 PM
boo ****ing hoo... take yer bitchin here:

02-13-2006, 02:23 PM
if it was bad enuff to require stitches, the slide idea is best.

It it's just a really deep cut into the tip of your finger, you can get this liquid skin stuff from the pharmacy that you brush on and it works pretty damn good. I did this to my ring finger the day before I was to go to the studio. It worked for me.

Or you can break out a harmonica for a week or so ..........
