^She did cut it a lot between Gish and Mellon Collie/Adore even. Also, Billy doesn't need to donate his hair, donating millions to the make a wish foundation already makes me bow to him.

Damn I'm a pumpkin's bitch...

No one has to donate their hair, it's just something small we can do and it's better then discarding it. Besides, Billy didn't have millions During post-Gish/Pre-Siamese so he could've done it then.

Interviewer: D'Arcy, is your hair really white?
D'Arcy: No it's, just a trick of the light that makes it look white, it's actually brown. -.-

^Someone has a thing for the alternative-rock-badass-girl :)

So what do you guys think of Melissa? I think she's very pretty.

(Also the superchrist video was shockingly random. I thought it looked like something they'd put out around Gish)

I agree with you about the Superchrist vid. Has that feel of Gish to it.
Can't wait to see Squalls reply to Melissa lmao She's not his favourite type of female...

And I don't particularly find her that attractive to be honest. Ginger all the way!
The guy that said jimmy looked like the stone roses dude, he does a bit lol.

Yeah. One of my favourites from Siamese Dream. And James and Billy wrote it.

Billy writes/wrote virtually everything

perry589

^ Yeah. James wrote 'Take Me Down' off Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness and 'Go' off Machina II.

Nightwatchman10
03-01-2008, 02:31 PM
he wrote a few of the ones which they ended up not releasing as well I think.

You can hear them on that really expensive box set they released in 2001 I think.. called something like Airoplane or something..

musiclover2399
03-02-2008, 01:53 AM
"The aeroplane flies high" was released in 96 I think. It's a 5 disc set of b-sides from mellon collie that also is chocked full of behind-the-scenes photos. Back then it was like 40 bucks but since it was limited edition, a mint condition set can go for $200. I have it but I got it used after the guy cleaned the discs (not that they needed to be). It's honestly shocking that they're B-sides, the whole thing sounds like it can be a sequal to mellon collie.

Also, songs James wrote/co-wrote:
I Am One
Soma
Mayonaise
Blew Away
Take Me Down
...Said Sadly
Believe
The Boy
Summer
Go
He also sang the Cure cover "A night like this" and the Syd Barret cover "Terrapin". I think I'm missing some songs but still a small fraction of the pumpkins catalogue compared to Billy.

Not exactly, they did a Cars cover and a cure cover. They also did a blondie cover with Darcy on vocals and another cover I think but I can't remember now.

Also yeah Ugly is a 1979 b-side. That disc has a bunch of clean electric songs, like the single. Actually all the songs sound like their single for the most part.

Anyone got a link for Superchrist at all? It's the only one they played in London that I don't have, and I don't know if I can get to Guitar Centre in time to get the CD (I'm going on holiday to the states in a couple of weeks).

but if its something ive not heard before by a band i dont know much about then i download it and usually end up removing it from my computer anyway because i dont like it

is that the one where he hits the dude over the head with his acoutic and puts one foot on the 'unconscious' wrestler dude and throws his arms in the air while the crowd go crazy to the sound of The Everlasting Gaze..??

:D :D :D that is my favourite youtube video

musiclover2399
03-06-2008, 03:11 AM
^Oh yeah, he's a wrestling fan and used an acoustic guitar as his weapon, ****ing awesome.

Also I have his solo album, think Machina but more beat-orientated. There's a song he did with Robert Smith, a cover of "To Love Somebody" by the beach boys I think and it's great, very sad. "You don't know what it's like to love somebody, the way that I love you..."

Plus Jimmy played on a song too which was cool.

^Interesting.

I have a question. I read on Wikipedia that Corgan and Iha split the soloing duties on MCIS 50/50. I'm wonder, what songs did Iha get to solo on? This is what I know for sure:

Corgan:
Bullet with Butterfly Wings
An Ode to No One (I think there's one)
Here is No Why
Muzzle
Jellybelly

Iha:
Zero

Can anyone fill the holes for me? Haha

Zero-Hartman
03-08-2008, 08:24 AM

i read somewhere that during the siamese dream and gish era.
billy was a real douche when it came to recording, he used to record james guitar parts so he could get them how HE wanted them.

I've been listening to the Smashing Pumpkins since the 90's when i heard "Today" from the Siamese Dream album, my cousin introduced me to them...then i kinda forgot about them for a while...then I heard "Mayonaise" on the radio about a year ago...and i really liked..so i started looking for their songs again...

hahha true :p:

ive never bothered learning any of the songs from ZeitGeist cos i cant be arsed tunning my guitar down.

i only play in standard tunning, which is why i never learn how to play songs in any other tunning other than standard. no matter which band it is im trying to learn.

that doesnt mean i dont like songs in other tunnings accept standard though. OF COURSE NOT!

Just play them on the same frets, don't have to change it for key, if you play them live all you need to do it tune down.

I don't really get it when people say they have trouble downpicking. I mean do you start alternate picking as soon as you start guitar or something?

I didn't try until like a year in. Before, I tried playing all these fast solos and riffs and such totally downpicked, which helped I guess because I rarely have problems.

lmao. Yeah, I still downpick more than alternative just becuase i feel a lot more comfortable with it, but I'll need to try and get used to the old alternative way.

But if your talking about tremelo.... WOOOOOOO

Nothing more satisfying than a good tremelo over the 15th fret lol...

Anyway, is the stuff from Zeitgeist downtuned? :( ahh well, I'm with nightwatchman, STARNDARD TUNING ALL THE WAY!

better not say that loud when josh homme from QOTSA is there...

^Don't like Zeitgeist?

Its alright but from a standpoint on were they WERE from 1994- 1996...it seems that there starting over again and making a record just to MAKE one. the songs on the cd sound like watered down versions of **** from gish-sd with stadium rock guitar solos filled in. It sounds hollow to me, and corgan cant overdub vocals for ****. (Yes he did overdub his vocals on SD but Butch Vig did that job.)

If you were around to see this band in its prime then you would see how far the quality feel. Keep in mind the time periods in which the albums were made....you here lots of **** like Zeitgeist nowadays, but SD and Mellon Collie were one in a kind pieces.

Squall142

You are not gonna tell me that Eye, AVA Adore, Perfect, Daphne Descends, Tear, Appels + Oranjes, Pug, Behold! The Night Mare, Here's To The Atom Bomb (Machina II version, not the judas version), Saturnine (again, Machina II version), Soot and Stars, Blissed & Gone, and Speed Kills all don't sound electronic/techno, especially when that was a goal of theirs?

Isn't there another day in the life vid where they're all prepping for a show and Ginger says the first time she heard Smashing Pumpkins music was when she was working in Chuck E Cheese AS Chuck E Cheese over the intercom thing?

I of the Mourning is now one of my favourite SPs songs.

The lyrics are emotional which always makes a good song in my opinion, and the song's music really adds to the emotional output too.

Well anything with an open E or A is a Pumpkins Chord I've bee told :D THat's quite awesome, having a whole chord to your name :) Gsus chords ftw.

Squall142
03-15-2008, 07:18 PM
^How is that possible? Those are just really popular chords.

G#5 Octave is in a lot of their songs though. Rhinocerus, Geek U.S.A, Cherub Rock, etc, etc (I'd say more but my mind is blanking like mad now (tired))

american gothic is brilliant

landslide is beautiful... but after a while of constant listening (which is always a bad idea with any song) it gets a bit boring, but thats my fault for not listening to something else for i didnt get so bored.

United States is back on to the top of my top SPs songs again :D

Zero seems like it would be hard to sing and play during the Harmonic slide part thing...

I always make Disarm playing/singing sound so choppy. If I didn't have my parents here all the time, I'd practice more hahaha

its not really that hard, It just does take practise.. as I learnt, but once you get it its fine. i can go the whole way through it singing/playing

I know quite a bit of Siamese Dream. Only songs I can't play (or haven't yet tried to) are Mayonaise, Spaceboy, Sweet Sweet and Luna. I know all I want to from Mellon Collie. I'm fucked if I'm learning a double album :haha

Mayonaise
Today
Spaceboy
Geek USA
Disarm

I know bits of:
Cherub Rock
Rocket
Silverfuck
Sweet Sweet

You posted the 1979th reply in the smashing pumpkins thread

EDIT: But yeah about the Smashing Pumpkins, I have just completed getting all the albums and I havebeen listenin to Machina loads recently. I think the atmosphere of that album is unique aobe all the other SP albums. It relaly gets under your skins with great songs like Standing Inside Your Love, The Everlasting Gaze, Raindrops + Sundrops, I of the Mourning and Try Try Try.

The best SP songs IMO are:

Cherub Rock: The first song off there second album Siamese Dream. Crashes in after a light clean sounds then BOOOM!! the power of the big muff pi comes into play and the hypnotic sound of the chords and riffs combine to make a 10/10 classic rock song. The solo is top notch and is nothing I have ever heard before.

Tonight Tonight: After the opening theme song on the Melloncolly comes an intense, magical introduction which builds up to the drop into the chorus. I think its is the best example of SP's abillity to transcend into any catagory of rock and influences. The decoration of the snare rolls just completes the classic SP formulae. Great lyrics, Guitar and drums.

Appels + Oranjes: This is the best work of Billy Corgan when he decided to take SP into concentrating on song writting. The drum machine with the ambient synths and Billy's softer side of his singing comes together to create a driving upbeat 3:35 minutes of something that doesn't follow the typical SP sound. Great transcend from wailing guitars and rollin drums to soft electro song writting.

lol funkinbrooklyn: you have a good eye lol

And I agree with you on all those songs, Tonight Tonight got me started with the pumpkins.
I can't really decide on a favourite song(s). It really is too hard, and I drift between albums very frequently so I'll never really have a favourite.

But as I was listening to some SD yesterday, I would have to say Silver**** is the top in my books at the momment.
