No No No!
there album is basically the same song over and over again so no i dont

Ockeroid
02-22-2006, 09:35 AM
How is it the same song over and over?

I think what you meant to say is: everything by Linkin Park is just the same song over and over.

Yeah, they're good. I saw them live and they were pretty amazing. I heard that lots of people are calling the guitarist the next Hendix?

joic3389

^WTF jimi hendrix???

totally agree with the linkin park comment tho

i was disappointed by their live show. it was moderately lame. i think i would've needed to be drunk to fully appreciate it.

not to mention the pavement was really hot that day and the bottoms of my favorite shows melted.

boo hoo

I hate all their songs apart from 'Like eating glass'. They sound so annoying, and are just a boring mainstraim indie band. They're one of the few indie/ alt bands I dislike alot.

Guitar_Joe
02-22-2006, 04:27 PM
i like them they a good band, there gitarist is being way way over rated he's nothing special, he's good better than me don't get me wrong but there are guitarists in modern indie bands out there that are so much better than him

haha i think its hilarious the amount of people who know nothing about bloc party...
for example... my brother kept telling me that bloc party were just another one of those uk bands trying to be the next franz....so i sat him down and we listened to the album and most songs as they started i said to him 'who does this sound like?' and many times he was unable to come up with an answer.
...anywhoo 2 days later he had to go away for a few days and he says to me he says 'can you burn me bloc party' and i just laughed....

the moral of this story kids is LISTEN TO THE WHOLE OF SILENT ALARM!!!

They're pretty good, I liked them. I remember back a while ago in 2003 or 2004 when they were supposedly going to be the "new big thing".

Like Eating Glass's lyrics are some of the most brilliant I've ever read regarding a viewpoint on religion.

I like the guitar lines, the songwriting can be obtuse at times. They're vastly written off via Banquet and Helicopter, but I think Like Eating Glass, Positive Tension and Luno are perhaps the three songs that best represent Bloc Party to me.

02-23-2006, 02:28 PM
I really like them. Silent Alarm is a bit of a mixed bag, though. On one hand, you have great songs like Like Eating Glass, So Here We Are, Blue Light, Helicopter, and Luno, and then on one hand you have filler like Price of Gas, Plans, and She's Hearing Voices.

But goddamn I love their guitar tone.

02-24-2006, 03:35 AM
they're ok in my book, but some of the songs on Silent Alarm are forgettable. Like Eating Glass, Helicopter, Banquet, Positive Tension, and Compliments are great songs, the others kinda of drag along. i don't think i could label them as trying too hard to do anything in any way...just they don't particularly hit a home run with this album (maybe more of a line drive double :p: ).

Abe
02-24-2006, 05:47 AM
I quite like them. Pioneers and Blue Light have to be my favourite songs on SA. Russels a good guitarist, I'd say he's definately a Radiohead fan. Unfortunately for them, their live show is pants.

Bloc Party are alright I guess, their drummers good and they have some interesting guitar work and a unique sound. But overall they are a bit of a boring band really.

Silent Alarm is the album of 2005.

Definitely one of the best of 2005, in my opinion.

Banquet, Little thoughts, so here we are, positive tension, helicopter, two more years, like eating class, tulips - they have so many good songs, and all sound unique to me.

02-26-2006, 07:16 PM

but the guitarist compared to hendrix ?

Love em'. I don't care what anyone says, when I put that album on it's perfect they make me want to go nuts dancing, rock out, or just deepress the hell out of my when I need it. It's one of those albums that you can just listen to. I can't wait for their next one!

Yeah, they're good. I saw them live and they were pretty amazing. I heard that lots of people are calling the guitarist the next Hendix?
Lucky.
Yeah, My friend Raymond got me hooked on Bloc Party. Their guitarist is pretty good, but the next Jimi Hendrix?
I think not.

Also, their frontman/guitarist Kele Okereke is awesome. Read his wiki. He's so focused on music it's awesome. He's just like totally anti-mainstream.

Big Toe III
03-09-2006, 05:08 AM
Bloc Party are awesome live. Russell is a fantastic player he is a master of effects and plays nice riffs but comparisons with Hendrix are just irrelevant. They are completely different types of players and different types of people. Matt Tong is the best indie drummer around. Kele is a great vocalist / writer / guitar player. Gordon produces some nice driving bass lines too.

Most importantly though they are very tight as a band and not flashy (no self indulgent solos here). Not only is the material quality but it is played with mastery. Technically they sound fantastic too. When you go to a Bloc gig you can hear the nuances of all of the instruments but you may not notice it because you'll be too busy 'moshing out'.

Silent Alarm was fantastic and I can wait for the new album out in August.

speaking of bloc party, I picked up this vinyl from the oxfam store in leeds uni the other day with a couple of bloc party tracks on it, and then there was also a magazine with it which was interviewing loadsa drummers from indie-esque bands, inc. thingy from Bloc Party.

Blov party is a great band. They are much better than 3/4 of the crap out there. I admit that the remix version of silent alarm really sucked, but the original album was great. So if you don't like them, go buy yourself some grunge metal or rake your fingernails against a chalkboard, either way they'll both sound about the same.

Love Bloc Party. Banquet got me hooked! So i got the EP (in 2004, when it didn't cost freaking 10 pounds! WTF?) and was impressed. I agree with Silent Alarm being the album of 2005, though when i first listened to the CD i didn't know what to think of it. But then again you really need to listen to an album to appreciate it or dislike it. Saw them live twice and they were great :D I wish they were in a smaller venue though - and i there wasn't all this commotion about stupid passes.

I think Skeleton is one of their best B-sides!

jamiecallaghan
04-06-2006, 07:21 AM
NO NO NO I absolutly loved Silent Alarm, there is not one weak song on the album. But they are pants live it has to be said. I much prefer their sound on CD, and as Kele said, he wanted Silent Alarm to sound a lot different on CD than played live. My favourite song was originally 'Like eating glass', then I overplayed it, and now 'Luno' is my favourite (just for the guitar part after the chorus :)).

Basically, if you hear bloc party on the radio, or just happen to hear a song as a one-off, you probably won't like them. However, if you invest in theri album (as you should) then I'm sure you'll be converted.

I feel like I was the only one disappointed by Silent Alarm Remixed though, I didn't really like the remixesa that much, Pitchfork liked it, but PItchfork also gave Romance BLoody Romance a 0.5, I'm starting to question Pitchfrok's jusdgement

God, I hate all these kids who say that they love Bloc Party after hearing either Banquet or Helicopter.

Why, because they heard a song that they liked? Not really a solid reason for hating people now is it.

More likely, you hate them because pretentious narrow minded people immediately tag such people with a negative label, and by association as a fan of the band you're given the same tag, and being perhaps a little pretentious and narrow minded yourself (could be wrong, judging you based solely on the post above with that sweeping comment), you actually worry about what said pretentious people think.

That's how I see it anyway.

Personally, I just like Bloc Party. And I started liking them after hearing So Here We Are. But I really do like both Banquet and Helicopter. Put your negative labels wherever you wish, theres plenty of room for them in my open mind :)

Bloc Party are amazing and no, not many of there songs sound that similar, the new material adds to their diversity, and when A Weekend In The City comes out anyone who liked Silent Alarm should check it out.

I can't get tired of their music.

Dakin
01-15-2007, 12:26 PM
I already have "a weekend in the city", and after about a day of listening to it, you can tell the band have changed dramatically in about a year.

its more based on "synthy" sounds and fast drum beats (Matt Tong has got to be one of the best drummers around at the moment), than silent alarm. the lyrics have changed to, and are less politically oriented, but still do the job.

its also more atmospheric than SA and it feels more like an album than a collection songs. the first five songs are very strong, especially "hunting for the witches" and "the prayer".

If anyone’s interested in hearing a few tracks, give me a PM ;)

I think that's why I like Bloc Party. It's very atmospheric to me and their music always bring me to another place.

EDIT: My favorite song off of SA is Little Thoughts.
