They were Joe's best band and I'd suggest buying all their albums.

Definatley better than The Eagles. And Joe had more creative control with The James Gang than The Eagles, he wrote his best songs, like "Funk #49," "Take a Look Around" and "The Bomber" with The James Gang. He wrote some good songs, like "All Night Long" with The Eagles, but nothing he did with them compared to The James Gang.

Yeah, they definately rock.

The Joe Walsh stuff is great, I love the #49 Riff, but also listen to some songs where Bolin was the lead guitarist. "the devil is singing our song", "Alexis"... and "Mistery"!!!

I get goose bumps every time I listen to Mistery, awesome singing, just beautiful!

btw: Is Bolin known in the USA? Over here in Switzerland 99/100 people never heard of him, but I think he's awesome. What he did in those few years is... yeah, unbelievable!!

James Gang is a great band. I own a few CDs of theirs, and I find them all to be great. They're pretty easy listening to me, and I do believe that this is where some of Joe Walsh's best stuff comes from.

However, I think that comparing them to The Eagles isn't too smart. Though in some ways the two bands are similar, in others they are different. The Eagles seem a lot more "relaxed" and not so much "rock" as James Gang are, because they often have harmonious ballads and such.

I've only got "Walk Away", "Midnight Man" and "Funk #49". They're great songs, but I still prefer the Eagles.

the bands joe played with should not be compared. his sheer awesomeness makes both what they are. he is a rock legend no doubt

The James Gang is awesome. I love Asshtonpark (I find it funny for some reason :p: ). The Bomber, Stop and Lost Woman are all rediculously awesome jams. Great band.

anyone have Thirds or their live album?

Joe Walsh's guitar work with them is easily his best, but its not his best band.Thats The Eagles. On topic, my favorite song is "Midnight Man", my favorite albums or Yer' Album, and The True Story of The James Gang. He always has funny album names.

On the Clapton Crossroads concert Walsh was about to play rocky mountain way and goes, "If I knew when I wrote this that I would be singing this the rest of my life I woulda wrote something else. But we're stuck with this one so here goes." Or something hilarious like that.

But yeah, James Gang is amazing.

On the same DVD, didn't he say something like "Sing along with this one, and if you can't sing, just do what I do"

On the same DVD, didn't he say something like "Sing along with this one, and if you can't sing, just do what I do"

it was something like

sing along if you know the words, if you don't just yell, that's what i do all the time

Right, something like that. I don't own the DVD, and I saw it a while ago. He seems like a cool guy he does.

Nuther good quote from the same dvd goes a little somethin like this "Im gunna dedicate this one to everyone that never had a song dedicated to em" .... not quite as funny as the others but still good.

Well. the James Gang was Joe Walsh's pre-pinnicle stage.. so it definitly was his pinnicle but the best part of it was exposed with The Eagles imo.

TheHeartbreaker
01-28-2007, 10:38 AM
I disagree. I feel that he was a better player with The James Gang than with The Eagles.

Don't get me wrong, his time with The Eagles was amazing.

However, I feel that, with The James Gang, he was much more in his element of playing blues-rock, rather than touching up what was predominantly soft-rock ballads with some electric guitar licks.

BrainDamage
01-28-2007, 03:05 PM
^^agreed. Walsh let loose during his James Gang days. I like his playing with them better then the Eagles, and most of his solo albums.

TheHeartbreaker
01-28-2007, 03:07 PM
I haven't listened to much of his solo career (as you know), but is it similar to The James Gang?

BrainDamage

^^at times, yes. The guitar work is still there, but there's a good variety in the songs.

Yes the James Gang does kick major A$$. But I guess I am just too obsessed with the Eagles as a band right now to compare lol.

TheHeartbreaker
01-29-2007, 07:50 PM
What is there to compare, though? I mean, they are entirely different bands, and are both phenominally great.

Carnivean
01-29-2007, 08:18 PM
Sure, they are entirely different.. every band is different. I think the spectrum of music and creativity of the Eagles is dominating though.

I'll agree that I believe The Eagles did do a better job of expanding their music into different directions in comparison to The James Gang.

I'm in the mood some Eagles now, actually, but only after I watch the music video for Danger Zone. ;)

yeah i like all of joe walsh's work and i think he didn't have a big enough role when he was with the eagles which was a real bummer, funk 49 rocky mountain way and life's been good are like my favorite songs and are totally playable even for a beginner

James Gang rocks! I have all three of their Studio/Walsh albums, and I love all of them. I like the power trio format, and honestly, they could give Cream and the Henrdix trio a run for the money. James Gang had that power trio feel at times, yet they could slow it down and play something soft too, which I why I like them so much.

James Gang > Eagles

TheHeartbreaker

He was one of them the others that I know of are
Richard Shack

Okay. I believe he played with Deep Purple as well.
