This is for anyone who's into indie/alternative rock in England, i live in Montreal and i love brit rock so damn much!!!
I already know Muse, Radiohead, Elbow, Rogue Wave, Doves, Leaves, Travis... and of course Coldplay...
Can you recommend something new, maybe something that hasn't yet crossed the atlantic?

Thanks!

I'll recommend Beckett (www.beckettmusic.co.uk)

Not the biggest band, unlikely to tour the States, but very very good :)

I don't think Oasis counts as a recommendation. I think there are people in Outer Mongolia who know who Oasis are.

Depends what kind of music you're after. If you want the more mainstream indie stuff then listen to the people above, but please please please do yourself a favour and ignore the Arctic Monkeys. They are a disgrace to this country. There are other bands around that are so much better. If you want some more obscure stuff, try clicking on the thread (basically a conversation between Andrew, Gurgle!Argh! and a few others including myself upon occasion) called 'Brits Revisited'. You should find some links and things. That's the best help I can give, since I don't really know what you're after and indie's not always my thing.

The Manic Street Preachers are Welsh and I think the Vines are Australian. :p:

Not having proper independance, we reserve the right to claim anything good from Wales as property of the crown ;)

Nah. I'll just think that like most people not actually living here, by England they mean the UK, or British Isles in general.

Manic Street Preachers - you must check out this band. Their album The Holy Bible is a must. also Everything Must Go.

Stone Roses - A HUGE influence on Britpop, arguably the first Britpop band. Though eclipsed by Oasis, I believe them to be the cream of the crop. Get their self-titled album, or a best-of.

Pulp - The smart side of Britpop. Check out their album This Is Hardcore. The Fear is an awesome song.

Porcupine Tree - less of a mainstream feel, somewhat more out-there, and their recent stuff has been very hard rocking. Released some really awesome material, great lyrics and musicianship. Their best and most accessible album is In Absentia.

Ocean Colour Scene (1st 2 albums only)..... etc etc etc etc

Firstly I bet you mean 2nd 2 albums (Moseley Shoals and Marchin Already) since hardly anyone that I know likes much off the first (Self titled indie release, Ocean Colour Scene)

And secondly, One From The Modern has some bloody amazing stuff on there and it's a shame not more people ever get that.

Yeah we can ignore the self titled one.... :p:

If we're being picky though I ment the 2nd and 4th then seeing as the third album released was B Sides, Seaside's and Freeride's (which is also brilliant....)

One from the Modern was an ok album but I resent it because I expected so much more... I am the News, Waves, July .. all good tracks but Profit In Peace, Families, I won't get grazed etc were poor.

Most of the reccomendatins here are rubbish. I saw iForward Russia! not so long ago and they were awful, and their recorded stuff is just as bad. Test Icicles were even worse.

Current bands I'd reccomend: The Cribs, The Futureheads, Maximo Park, Baby Shambles, The Rakes, Graham Coxon.

ˇForward, Russia! are amazing, I have just purchased Give Me A Wall. Seen them twice, they are at their best live!

Oasis are ****e, absolutely dire. Worst music in Britain.

Other than that, My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride, The Automatic, Biffy Clyro, Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies... All good alternatives to the rubbish faux 'post-punk' indie clatter thats clogging up MTV2.

Down with the Arctic Monkeys.
