Does anyone here like eddie van halen :headbang: he;s like my favorite guitarist of all time this thread is only EvH and VH

JkHalen
03-09-2006, 08:33 PM
Well, there's a Van Halen thread on the "Classick Rock" forum but it's also ok to have one here, but most of the people on that thread are pretty negative about Eddie's decisions about the band and most of 'em have good points. Anyways, he's one of the greatest rock innovators no doubt. Great musician but he has to work on giving fans a little bit of what they want. He seems a bit selfish..

maidenrulz19

yeah that's true but if he wasn't really selfish maybe the band woukd still be back with the original lineup or with :peace: hagar dosen't matter

I occasionally mix up Panama and Jump when I'm thinking about the songs in my head, not really sure why.

I dont really get why van halen with sammy hagar gets the bad rap. I mean it sounds more like a full band with hagar singing. When i listen to something like Summer Nights or 5150 i don't get the connection with journey  . They rocks both times.

David Lee Roth was a better singer, well he has a bigger range. When they were live Hagar is more consistant and stays closer to in key. He had really good lyrics compared to DLR, whose lyrics didn't make sense.

But thats just my opinion.

this thread seems to be nothing more than a debate about which VH singer is better--come on, this is a GUITAR forum...

So, can ANYONE here play Spanish Fly? I can play most of it on an electric although i'll admit it took a lot of time 'speed training' with Guitar Pro but how the hell he gets that tapping to sound so fluid on a classical--downtuned or otherwise--is beyond me.

i'm not even that big a fan of VH, i find their songs largely uninspiring--dont flame me--i really want to like them, i mean i dont mind listening to Jump, Aint talkin' bout love, panama, etc but they havent really affected me in any way--except for Spanish Fly=Eruption doesnt really give me any problems but SP-

Im not trying to say that VH is better than Di Meola or the other wealth of flamenco/acoustic virtuosos out there, BTW.

its the simpicity thats awsome, i mean, his comping ideas were simple at times yet they changed the mood of the music so much. the way he incorperated them were kickass and made it sound so cool. that and his blues licks... van halen rocks with or without dlr or hagar. van halens van halen.

And use puctuation. It helps make an assortment of words and letters seem more coherent.

No disrespect or sarcasm intended here, but who really knows. He probably did something to piss Eddie(or as he sees himself, God) off, they had a fight and he decided to leave/got kicked out of the band. It seems to happen a lot with Van Halen. If Eddie doesn't like you, get the hell out. It's really too bad that Eddie doesn't have a son that can sing, or else the band could officially be Van Halen and they could tour around together, and maybe Eddie wouldn't get pissed at them and throw them out.
