Thanks to Saddle-Creek Records, indie rock in Nebraska is booming. Some bands coming up in indie rock who live in or originated in Nebraska(specifically Omaha) are Bright Eyes, The Faint, Desaparecidos, Tilly and the Wall, Cursive, Broken Spindles, Azure Ray, Criteria, Sorry About Dresden, Beep Beep, Orenda Fink, Son, Ambulance, The Good Life, etc., etc.

If you've ever been to my homestate of Nebraska you'll know it doesn't seem like the place for this kind of stuff; however, the business is booming in Omaha, Nebraska. ;)

Oh.

None of my buddies even believed me when I tried to tell them. And we live in Nebraska.

Sorry, didn't realize it was so well-known.

Hey I live in Omaha, we have a great scene. I have seen the following...

Bright Eyes..twice
Faint..3 times
Criteria...twice
Cursive...once
The Good Life...once
Orenda Fink..3 times
Mayday...once

The Faint by far the best, no one puts on a show like them. If anyone hasn't heard them I suggest you do.

haha I just say Roger Lewis at target the other day. That's the first time I have seen a saddle creek person not at a concert. I was excited.

Tilly and the Wall is NOT on Saddle-Creek. They are on Team Love (the Oberst-run subsidiary of Saddle-Creek).

Broken Spindles is one of my favorite Saddle-Creek bands.

I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeah's a couple months ago and Dapose walked out on stage with a laptop and did a one-man electronic death metal thing. It was interesting.

There is indie rock in every city. Saddle Creek is just an organized label that had a really popular artist that probably got the others exposure. Additionally, if the bands didn't suck, that would have to help, yes?

So you're saying that the Saddle-Creek bands suck?

there's no worthwhile indie rock in lousyville, kentucky.

No, I said if the bands are good, that would help lead the label to success... which is apparently the case with Saddle Creek. (Ignoring the fact that the world has gone utterly insane and can't see Oberst's put-on pretentious bull**** for what it is.)

I think the main factor, most likely, would be organization and good PR techniques. In my area, I know some people who are really talented and make incredibly interesting, moving, catchy, appealing, well-produced music. But they aren't do anything about it. They have MySpace pages and do shows in the area but that's not enough. You can look at Ani DiFranco founding her own record label and becoming a huge success, and stemming from her success, releasing artists that are very well know in the folk community the same way Saddle Creek has become a name in the pick-a-name-for-the-genre community. People just need to go about it the right way. I don't know anything about Saddle Creek, but I am really guessing that they did that.

I have too much to say about everything.

Dapose is the guitarist in the Faint. He was in a death metal band before he joined the Faint.
