oh alright I didn't notice that...

I'm still afraid a lot of players are gonna learn his "fingerpicking" style and call it flamenco/classical (not that I think it's the same) guitar...

it's still cool he does a thing like that but if a flamenco/classical player would do a vibrato like that and pick like that a real player would laugh at him

(I still think he has some cool idea's)

you cant say it doesnt sound flamenco at all, sure its not traditional flamenco but it does have that sound.

imo it doesn't sound like it... of course he does some cliché things like playing Emaj in open position and switching those fingers up and down a few frets...

but overall it is nothing like flamenco

I agree with you. A real flamenco player would school him anyday.

^ HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Sigged!

I know I'm grave-digging, but it beats getting flamed for creating a new thread on PG.

I want to start listening to Paul Gilbert, but I don't know where to start, he's got like two-million albums. What should I get first?

PooKoo

Well, any of his solo albums are good for fun, and usually pretty awesome, from what i've heard.

For songs, try down to mexico, s.v.t., i am satan, and others like em im sure others will name.

For his metal/shred side, check out mr big and especially racer x. Any of their albums are good, from what i've heard.

SnowballofDoom

To get into his solo stuff, maybe King of Clubs or Flying Dog..

For Mr. Big, Lean Into It or the Best of..

For Racer X, Technical Difficulties or Superheroes..

And Doubleday *slap* there's no such thing as too many Gilbert threads!

Tom Martin

Ok, since this is a PG thread for now, theres something I gotta ask...

Is it true he spent the his first two years of playing guitar only playing upstrokes on the low E string and only fretted using his third finger? I've been told that by a reliable source, but yet it just seems like one of the dumbest things in the world... can anyone shed any light on this matter?

Resiliance

Yes.

Stratwizard
06-05-2006, 06:53 AM
Yes, that's true. He told it in his instructional video.

Scorzerci

And in some of his interviews and in the live in Seoul (sp?) clinic.
