"Perfect" Bands

View Full Version : "Perfect" Bands

Are there any bands where you can take out 50 songs and just listen to each one of them without ever feeling the need to change the song?

For me it's Bright Eyes.
I downloaded (don't kill me) around 20 songs from them before I ever got into them just to see what their music sounded like, and every song I find myself listening to without any need to change the song.

04-05-2006, 09:23 AM
The Beatles have the deepest list of any band. None of their songs are that jaw-dropping, but each of their top 100 or so are fantastic, so in terms of sheer quality of output, they are the standard. That said, depth of catalog is not the only determinant. I only like 15 or so of most band's songs, but if they're good songs, then 15 is enough. Some of the best musicians ever (Hendrix, for example) only recorded a very small number of songs.

04-05-2006, 09:25 AM
bright eyes is great, led zeppeling would definitely fall under your specs, i dont think ive ever heard a bad sublime song, so thats prolly a good route, AC/DC, i guess you don't want classics though, Panic! at the disco, theyre one of my personal favorites, probably don't have 50 songs though, Foo Fighters, would probably fit your criteria, theres probablymore, but that's what jumps out to me

04-05-2006, 09:27 AM
For me its P.O.D, they're one of the few bands that I can listen to all their songs without needing to skip a track.

04-05-2006, 09:27 AM
Led Zeppelin. Even though some of their song are pretty long, they're so good that you feel you have to listen to the whole thing. Most of their stuff is amazing, and I could listen to it all day. Even the Beatles, which that guy a couple spaces above me already said, are amazing and I could sit with them for a whole day too.

04-05-2006, 09:32 AM

04-05-2006, 05:07 PM
Tool and Incubus.

If only APC hadn't released eMotive, it had like 3 good songs :(

Incubus, Weezer, Radiohead (yes, any of them, even Treefingers), Brand New, and Horse The Band.

I'm really surprised that I wouldn't list more but I really thought about it. One band I really like that I wouldn't be able to stand listening to without switching songs is The Mars Volta.

04-06-2006, 01:25 AM
The Used
Brand New
Green Day

04-06-2006, 08:56 AM

I'd say Rage Against the Machine were perfect. And of course Guns 'n Roses around the time of 'Appetite for Destruction'.

04-07-2006, 01:53 PM
RHCP... Their style has changed a lot and it is easy to listen to 3 albums in a row.

Each album has a different style and there are parts within each album that appeal to different people.

But otherwise, I think The Pretenders are perfect. Or at least the first three albums.

Their music actually works best if you just listen to it straight through. Especially Metropolis Pt. 2 and Octavarium.

Van Halen:
Sorta depends on the album, but they can get me in a groove.

Alter Bridge:
I've worn out the grooves on the CD. Awesome stuff.

John Frusciante:
Very cathartic. Hard to stop and switch tracks.

The Doors:
Another band that gets me in the groove.

The beatles for sure. They just have so many good songs. i don't think they have a 'bad' song at all.

07-12-2006, 05:33 AM
So I take it you've not heard the "White" album.

That's just my opinion though.

07-12-2006, 12:52 PM
you gotta say the beatles, i mean they got tons of songs and most of them with the exception of just a few are musical genius, they werent the best muscians ever but everything in their band was perfect. some songs that are infectious are ones like...

i've got a feeling, dont let me down, i me mine, get back, come together, here there and everywhere, im only sleeping, sexy sadie, while my guitar getnyl wheeps, you could go on and on but if ur in a beatles mood then they are the best thing that could happen

07-12-2006, 12:55 PM
So I take it you've not heard the "White" album.

That's just my opinion though.

but whatever, Black Sabbath (Ozzy-era of course) as long as I can take out Changes and the whole Technical Ecstacy album, Rob Zombie/White Zombie, Monster Magnet, I can listen to at least 50 songs by Dylan considering he's made over 1.5 thousand but probably not all strait, Dylan is amazing and the best songwriter out there it's just that I'm more of a rocker and need to have some ELECTRIC DETUNED MOTHER ****ING HARDCORE ****, Kyuss.

once again, personal preference. So megadeth (every single song save for hanger 18, it just drives me up the wall), queens of the stoneage, slayer, the white stripes, the donnas, pantera, soil (altho I don't know if they have 50 songs yet), johnny cash, chet atkins, tommy emmanual, and machine head.

Elliot Smith
Red House Painters
Iron & Wine

In my opinion, these can be considered perfect bands. I could listen to their albums without skipping one track.

Pantera (1990-1994)
Tool (Excluding "10,000 Days" of course)
A Perfect Circle
Slipknot (**** you, they are great!)

08-06-2006, 12:43 AM

RHCP, Nirvana, Pavement, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and van halen and maybe the doors

08-29-2006, 04:15 PM
Tough one... most musicians who have a large discography, have made a couple of songs that suck. Even the good ones. The Beatles come close to perfection, but they made a handfull of corny songs. And stuff like Revolution 9, while innovative, isn't exactly music that's suitable for every listening occasion.

Personally, i'd say Charles Mingus. I own about 15 of his records, and like them all. I'm sure he made bad material at one point in his carreer, but i haven't heard it yet.

Alkaline Trio

There's no such thing as a "perfect" band. The only band that actually comes close, for me anyway, is probably The Beatles, mostly in their late 60's "experimental" era, when all four of them higher than a fucking kite on just about every single illegal substance known to man.

09-02-2006, 01:56 AM
not a band, but john frusciante. if you want a band i'd say pearl jam.

09-02-2006, 01:58 AM

09-05-2006, 08:08 AM

09-09-2006, 12:34 AM

09-13-2006, 10:54 PM
I'll say one that probably hasn't been said: propaghandi, i love their entire discography because its all done in good taste. The slow songs, the fast songs, melodic ones, they're all great. they are one of the few bands that takes the time to perfect their songs (with an average of like 4-5 years between albums), and that doesn't just mean hours in the studio or jam room, they makes sure they take the time to LIVE like the rest of us. They suffer for their causes and it shows in their lyrics, they have unlimited creativity and never end up sounding like a bad coverband of themselves.

tool and death also are two groups I listen to without skipping.

It'd be nice if people explained their choices instead of cluttering up the thread with lists of their favorite bands.

The Libertines, Feeder, Chilis

The Libertines because they have the unique sound, the lyrics are insightful and the two part vocals send shivers down my spine. According to Carl Barat, they are just on ice and not split up. So when, not if, they start making music again it will be an amazing day for all.

Feeder because of they're diversity and progression from distortion to the reflection of tracks like Save Us. I absolutely love this band. Grant Nicholas' lyrics are personal and sang perfectly.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers because of again their listenability, it is a real word, and their range. The lyrics are very often anthemic and also sang melodically. Funk rock!

09-14-2006, 03:58 PM
For me it's probably Led Zeppelin. Every album they put out is a quality album. Even though their last album wasnt as good, it still was and is better than most other music.

09-14-2006, 04:01 PM
Led Zeppelin And Acdc.

09-14-2006, 09:23 PM
The Beatles, Radiohead and RHCP. It's pretty hard to find many "filler songs" from these bands :p:
