i-bahn-yez. it's spanish. I'm sure of it

Um...no. It's a Japanese word and a Japanese company. www.ibanez.co.jp

See the ".co.jp" extension? Yeah, that's Japanese. And it would be pronounced ee-bah-nes if it was a Spanish word. I see no tilde (~) over the "n"...

I know Spanish pronounciation better than Japanese pronounciation, but I'm pretty sure its "EYE-ba-nez", since (correct me if I'm wrong), Japanese accentuates the first syllable of a word in most cases.

They sold Spanish guitars though.

It doesnt really matter how you pronounce it though, when someone says eye-ba-nez, somebody who says eee-ba-nez knows you're talking about Ibanez.

its different depending where u live. but if ur in the eastern US, and dont say

eye-ba-nez, ull get pinned as noob.

words are all pronounced differently depending on where u live.
in this case, this is how he pronounced his name, but i wouldnt expect everyone would.

perfect example, it's pronounced LEss Paul, but u wouldnt expect a french person to say it that way, even tho that's his name.

ok that, and this thread comes around every month.

What a weird story! So a Japanese company bought a Spanish guitar company and kept the Spanish name for marketing reasons...even though the guitars are Japanese. I guess its ee-ba-nes. Though some native Spanish speakers might say ee-ba-nez, I guess. From what I can tell its a regional thing.

I know a guy with the last name Ibanez and he pronounces it ee-bon-yez. That's what I use.

Edit: To Auranos- spanish speakers will pronounce it either way because the name usually has an accent over the N. ee-ba-nez is without the accent, ee-ban-yez is with it, which assumes the accent is implied. So either could technically be correct.

I learned Spanish from a tutor who moved to America from Spain. They speak Castillian Spanish which is apparently way different from everyone else... :(

You speak Castillian Spanish too? That's what my teacher always taught me, but down here in Florida they don't use the "th" sound.
