Good band...opinions?

04-07-2006, 02:15 PM
Yeah I like em

Love the early stuff.
Great cowpunk, and always liked how they sang about the battle for the Cuckoo's Nest.

great early cowpunk. at least when steve was in the band. nowadays i just can't swallow much of what they do. "soccer mom" is damned funny, though.

plus, how can you go wrong with lines like:
"Anarchy burger----hold the government!"? brilliant!

04-07-2006, 02:36 PM
Mach I'm shocked you like the Vandals. Don't they trash gear that doesn't belong to them?

04-07-2006, 02:39 PM
Theyre good. Didnt they basically turn into a pop punk band?

And yes, Soccer Mom is hilarious

04-07-2006, 02:43 PM
Forgot to mention I do like the band. I'm still in shock Mach likes them.

PEACE TRHOUGH VANDALISM is a classic mini-lp, SS. it's nothing like they are today, of course---and if you don't have it i suggest that you do your best to get a copy.if all you know is what they do now, it'll be a real eye opener!
(i believe it's coupled with WHEN IN ROME DO AS THE VANDALS on cd, just so you know)
apart from that---like i said....what they turned into is just not my cuppa tea.

04-07-2006, 02:53 PM
Don't worry I've heard a couple of tracks off it. I heard that they smashed up some gear years back that belonged to a DC band. Can you verify that?

04-07-2006, 02:56 PM
yeah...they sure did...but hell, gear got trashed a lot back in those days. now that i'm MUCH older i gaurd my rigs, but back than it wasn't a priority for most of us.punk rock!hahaha!

04-07-2006, 03:02 PM
lived up to their name back then...

04-07-2006, 04:47 PM
Incredible band.

04-07-2006, 05:21 PM
i hate them.

04-07-2006, 11:52 PM

04-08-2006, 12:52 AM
I love the Vandals!!!

Anyone notice that Vin Diesel qoutes Anarchy Burger in XXX?

04-08-2006, 01:13 AM
Where?? Are you serious?

Damn. I always knew Vin had a punky side.

04-08-2006, 01:27 AM
Oh man.
I love the vandals.
Lets hope the mods don't decide to move this to pop punk like all the Descendents threads in here...

04-08-2006, 05:37 AM
He quoted anarchy burger didn't he? I enjoyed that. Hated the movie though.

04-08-2006, 01:49 PM
I like them. And I've always wondered, and this is a stupid question, what exactly is cowpunk?

I believe it's country punk. But I've been wrong before.

I like Them Loads. I guess I have to like this band. I met my girlfriend at their show in Glasgowwhich was fantastic. Bit Dissapointed with the last album though.

Vandals are made up on some great musicians. Mainly Josh Freese. The Vandals have been along for a long time and deserve more respect. If anyone knows the Vandals they'll tell you that singer Dave Quackenbush doesn't really like their style he'd rather play music more punk. In a conversation with him myself he said he'd like it if the band were harder and heavier punk than they are.
Great band though Warren Fitzgerald, guitarist, is very talented.

I saw a great video on you could probably find. Its a No Doubt show where Dave and Warren both play with No Doubt to ' Oi To The World ' Pretty cool video for Vandals fans and early No Doubt fans.

mmm... ice

Haven't heard much but what I have sounded really good.

I've always wondered, and this is a stupid question, what exactly is cowpunk?

Cowpunk is western music played in a punk rock style, ie. if you slowed the songs down and took the distortion off, they would sound like regular western songs.

The following songs are cowpunk:

Vandals "Urban Struggle"
DK "Rawhide"
TSOL "80 Times"
SNFU "Misfortune"
DOA "The Prisoner"
Sham 69 "Hersham Boys"
Social D "Like An Outlaw (For You)"

BTW, Steve-O, the original singer from the Vandals died a few months ago in Hawaii.

RIP, bro.

04-13-2006, 09:45 PM
Where?? Are you serious?

Damn. I always knew Vin had a punky side.

he probably doesnt, the writer of the movie probably did...

04-13-2006, 09:55 PM
steve-o was what i liked about the early Vandals---back when they did the cowpunk thing.
and warren is a corporate ***** who needs a good a$$ kicking.

the spectrum of "cowpunk" is as diverse as the the people who try to define it.
meat puppets had their share of cowpunk moments, as did the mekons. how about Rank and File?---now that was truly good sh!te.

04-14-2006, 06:14 AM
How'd he die?

04-16-2006, 01:34 PM
"When in Rome...." is definately one of my top 5 favorite punk albums. And i belive that the cause of Steve-o's death is still unknown

Yesterday I was listening to the song "The Day Farrah Fawcett Died" and later today I discovered that it was indeed the day that Farrah died. Never thought I'd see that coming.
