I agree with nofx_2525 that nofx and greenday are the best political punk bands and that Greenday is the last. I believe that greenday has spiraled down since american Idiot. The Old school was better.

YES! I SAY IT'S POLITICAL PUNK IN SOME WAYS IF YOU ASK! Analyze some songs like "American Jesus" and you will understand!

I wouldn't really say that Green Day are actually political punk becuase they have only just taken up the political agenda in their latest album, but i'm talking about bands that are political through and through.

KingsOfRonin

Do you mean like still together?

Or new bands coming out?

Cause if you're talking about both:

Naked Aggression
Petrograd
Ekkaia
Yaphet Kotto
Propagandhi
RAMBO
This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb

Chose those bands cause they all sound like they *actually* know what they are talking about.

Political punk- Bad religion

thank you, seriously, thank you! Someone who understands Bad Religion!

I hate it when people say Green Day is the best political punk band. Listen to their older stuff and their not political at all. They're just sellouts that are trying to get extra publicity by being anti-bush.

yeah, he is calling bad religion pop punk. I've had the same arguement with that guy on several different threads. I think its absolutely ridiculous, he probably has never heard Bad Religion.

Bad Religion are the cloth from which pop punk is cut.

If you listen to the bands that used to play with BR, like TSOL, Black Flag, Social D, etc. , you can hear a world of difference between other Cali punk bands and BR.

Dead Kennedys anyone?
'Kill the poor' and 'MTV get off the air' are political punk at its best.

Rage Against the Machine is sort of punk. They're passionate about changing things in society, which might make them punk? (I dunno what punk is, I like pop). Definitely the best political band since Bob Dylan though.

I definitely agree that those bands sound different from Bad Religion, but how does that in turn make them pop punk?

nofx was never in it for the money...fat mike was cool and still is(except that he turned in to a new age anti-bush prick) however, Nofx shaped a lot of punk but still Propagandhi owns. they dominate, as well as bad religion, but only the new pennywise is really more political.

Homophobia has no place in a forum about a style of music/culture that was pretty much started by a bunch of gays and drag queens.

That might be true, but then again there are no guidelines to the genre, and it can be used as a front to bash, praise, speak up, speak out against anything. Such as the Pagans song, Six And Change, it starts out saying, "Freddy, you didnt have to hit the fag freddy, I HATE QUEERS!" I dont think Punk should exclude homophobia, or only support the left wing mentality, or always be against the system and what not.

Although that throwing ther term fag around lightly.... he must be gay or something.
