im "iffy on "The" bands at best, the clash are alright, the sex pistols i like..... but not 'the darkness' or any of that bs...... i think older "the" bands were alright but mostly crap now

ahh. well that changes everything. i guess i dont mind it. i personally hate band names that sound overly macho or cheezy (avenged sevenfold, metallica, black sabbath).

Uhhh, yeah if you hate a band just because they are a "The (NOUN)'s" band, I don't trust any kind of opinion you have at all.

Although, I have shied away from refering to my 'bands' with "The" names, just because I think that there are too many, and an original, catchy name usually hooks people a lot better.

"The d00dz" just doesn't cut it for most people.

Didn't say i hated them- the names just seem contrived or a bit babyish (if u get me )

Still Life

The Beatles!

Although really, I sort of see your point, I usually just disregard "the" in the name, I have nothing for or against it.

Plenty of old bands called "The........." but that was back in the day, not cool any more- different culture??

I think the name should have no bearing on what you think of the music. Automatically grouping up all bands that have a name with 'the' in it is just ignorant.

I don't think the word 'The' has anything to do with the bands talent......

Besides, people usually take the 'The' away anyways.
Hence, 'The Used' becomes 'Used' and 'The Misfits' becomes 'Misfits'.....

Dude i hate the clash and i do have a sophisticated sense of music. That statement is completly dumb because somebody make like great bands but not like the clash.

I don't care what a band's name is

The Album Leaf
The Appleseed Cast
The Cure
The Decemberists
The Smashing Pumpkins
The Flaming Lips

et cetera et cetera

They might all start with 'The' but they still have original and interesting names.
And they play great music, so shush

Ahem.

The White Stripes
The Black Keys
The Arctic Monkeys
The Magic Numbers
The Von Bondies
The Mammals
The Mooney Suzuki

And these are all bands that started either in the '00s or very very late '90s.

The band names that piss me off are the ones that have ****ing prepositions and possesive pronouns and verbs in them. You know, like At the Drive In, Jets to Brazil, Texas Is the Reason, etc.

****ers. TOO MUCH GRAMMAR!

How come no one gets that the topic starter was talking about band names only? The fact that there are good bands that have "the" names is not the point. It's whether or not you like band names that begin with the word "the". ****.

Personally I don't hate all "the" names, but they have to be orignal or cool sounding enough. Nothing like The Mousepads or some stupid thing (obviously i just looked slightly down and to the right to come up with that band name. ALso, the meteors = teh win

Who cares about a bands name, as long as its not overly stupid or cheesy
personally - i like having the variety, if all bands had one-word names it would get kinda dumb, yet if all bands started with 'The' that would be pretty annoying too

pnblwzrd

i tend to pay more attention to the quality of the music than the quality of the name but maybe thats just me. The word "the" in a band name isnt gunna stop me from listening to them because what the band produces is much more important.

Resiliance

Big deal, the band name starts with "the"

If the music's good I like em, if not, I don't. How's that?

It's funny how you people think that the name doesn't matter. If you liked death metal (Slipknot) and there was a death metal band called The Pretty Ponies (which of course would never happen but roll with me) and there was another metal band called, umm, Megadeth (I can't think of any good metal names) and both of their debut albums were at the music store, which one would you be more likely to buy?

CornLord
07-24-2006, 11:17 PM
^ I would go by whichever I'd heard good things about.

And since when is Slipknot considered death metal (or metal at all)?

The Who > You

Anyways, it could be a wee bit more creative, but the music is still good.

The Cure
The Dresden Dolls

All these "the" bands are amazing.

Yeah, having a "The" in front of the title to show a definitive name/article makes them seem a bit....arrogant almost. I mean, "The" Beatles, well they are basically declaring that they are the only Beatles so all the others can just fuck off.

All the bands I like dont start with "The".

it'd be something if a band came out with the word "the" as the last word in their name.
"The Toads" is a pretty tame name. what if you saw an add for "Toads The". it'd catch my eye for sure.

I don't like band names with the at the begining but it doesn't change my opinion on their music.

Maybe you should all read more carefully. Like someone already mentioned, this thread wasnt about hating bands just because their names starts with "The". They were just saying that they didnt like the names. They didnt say they hated the music. Personally, I dont really care about the names, as long as the music is good. Also, odd names can be good because they attract people to them

Hmm... let me think. The Beatles, The Doors, The Guess Who, The Velvet Underground, The Yardbirds, The Zombies, The Who, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds and, of course, The Band. Seems like "the' bands are the way to go.
