This thread is specifically designed to worship the drummers for once instead of the guitarist. First, enter the name of three drummers who you would love to jam with, the bands they were in, and one of their greatest masterpieces.

Neil Peart. I highly doubt there is another drummer could play The Rhythm Method/O Baterista/Der Trommler, much less write something that involved. Add to the fact what a great lyricist he is and you have a great man.

As for the other two, I havn't a clue, no one else really compares.

ok, so my fave drummers are

Levon helm- The band -best ever, in my opinion. Not a big show off drummer, but his fills are just so tasty and his snare drum sounds amazing.

Jimmy Chamberlin - the smashing pumpkins, zwan etc - amazing drummer, just listen and discover, even if ya dont like the pumpkins you've gotta respect that jimmy is awesome.

Simon Kirke - free, bad company - not much of a fan of his playing in bad company, but his playing in free is just so awesome and understated, again, not a big showoff drummer.

I'm going to pick rock drummers. Great jazz drummers that I've heard i find more enjoyable than any rock drummers i've heard, but it's a totally different genre so it's hard to compare.

so for rock:

Chad Smith - most swingin drummer playing in rock now. i despise rock drum solos, and he's actually played a drum solo i've enjoyed.
John Bonham & Keith Moon - the obvious ones, great sounds.

Totally agree, he made some great beats that really complimented Jimi well. Other than Mitch I think Bonham and Grohl are the best.

Modernmusich8er
05-10-2006, 09:21 PM
I'm sorry but Neil Peart blows away the competition. The man has a DOCTORATE in drumming not to mention some of the things he can pull off live (play 16th notes with 1 arm, That's pretty cool and technical at the same time). You are right though. Mitch is very underrated and Jimi is overrated (he's still great though).

Remember, Slipknot has 3 percussionests, so Joey isn't acutally playing all that stuff.

Mike Portnoy -Dream Theater (He can do anything.)
Alex Van Halen - Van Halen (Severally underated. He was doing modern day beats back in the '70s.)
The guy from Meshuggah (Dude's phsycotic.)

And keep in mind, we're guitarists and don't know jack about drums. Ever heard a non-guitar player going on about how good Green Day's guitarist is?

1. Wrong thread. You didn't mention any drummers dumbass.
2. No one cares.
3. Take your GC fanboy-ism to the Pop-Punk thread, in the Official GC thread, if there is one.
4. N00b.

Jaska from Children Of Bodom is really wicked. I'll have to change my list to:
1. Danny Carrey
2. Jaska Raatikainen

keith moon-the who- so much great stuff too much to list umm...Won't get fooled again is rocking. I would kill to jame with him he was the best.

John Bonham-Led Zeppelin-Umm again so much good stuff, he played on Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy man. Led Zeppelin work is Rock 'N' Roll, The Crunge, Moby Dick so much stuff.

Neil Pert-Rush-Basically he's the tightest drummer out there. Technically no one can beat him. Basically and Rush song rocks by him.

also Buddy Miles, Ginger Baker and Mitch Mitchell.

Resident Rocker

oh also this drummer I saw play with Tony Melendez the drummers name was Tim Pope and he rocked out so hard it was insane. He played bass on keyboard and drummed at the same time, he freestyled a song by himself singing and drumming in like a blues feel. It was amazing.

(in no particular(sp?) order)

Jaska Raatkainen - Children of Bodom (Probably somethign off of Hatebreeder) Had tons of cool beats and fills on that whoel album, he is pretty quick too.
Eric Lebailly - Adagio (Chosen) My god that dude has some endurance and speed, but some of their other songs show he can play more beats, that one is just quick as hell. Song is on their MySpace page, http://www.myspace.com/adagioonline
Morgan Rose - Sevendust (just about anything "Home" and beyond) Home was the ambum that they really started to shine on, then Animosity, Seasons, and now Next. On all of those albums I haven't heard one thing that seems to resemble another, all his stuff is different and is really good.

drummers of all time???

Buddy Rich - jazz
Bonham - Rock - he could probably destroy any other metal drummer with his single kick abilities nevermind double kick

Third - ??

Keith Moon in my opinion was a very sloppy player, if you notice all the beats in the song are the same, he could just play really fast and have unlimited energy, but his drum solos sound awful theres no rhythm or feel in them its just noise.

My favourite drummers are very different to that list, people who influence me are:

Brad Wilk, Matt Cameron (most underrated drummer ever), Dave Abbresseuze, Mitch Mitchell

ok, ive already posted my top 3, but i have to add the godly Joe Morello, of the Dave Brubeck quartet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TK7HSTEfEgQ

and

Sam Woodyard, who played with Duke Ellington: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3XXi3krN80

also Ollie Peacock from Gomez and Brant Bjork from Kyuss are mighty fine sticks-men

Joe morello is amazing, i have a video of him playing with his hands it was awesome!

drummers of all time???

Glad to see I'm not the only person that thinks Keith Moon was overrated.
