I'm putting together a mix of punk songs on the topic of the Vietnam War for my ap us history teacher, he thinks my mohawk is just hilarious and makes lots of rascist indian statements towards me alot because of it, and seemed to be glad those protesters were shot at Kent State, so I felt like putting this together and giving it to him to listen to. Any suggestions for songs to go on it? Right now I just have some Dead Kennedys, Dead Milkmens "Beach Party Vietnam", and the Despised's "Four Bullets"

Any help would be appreciated

Paint it black- Rolling Stones. and to be honest, the intro of Ride of the Valkeries, Wagner.

Bit before Vietnam =p but it would make sense to anyone who's seen Apocalypse Now. (Helicopter scene)

I'm not sure if it's exactly about Vietnam but it has that line:
Do their best/do what they can/to get them ready for Vietnam

Lars and the Bastards have a song called Vietnam too.

The Clash song "Straight To Hell" is about the Half-Vietnamese/Half-American babies fathered by American G.I.s in Vietnam during the war.

1) Paint It Black is not a Punk song
2) Its about a depressed man who lost a close love one, look at the lyrics.
3) Ride of the Valkeries has nothing to do with vietnam

Now if i wasnt in such a good mood id rip you to shreds right now, but since i am i wont.

I second Vietnam by Jimmy Cliff.

except I heard some hippies sing it at a war protest and it lost all it's goodness for me, for a while. :)

Don't bother. If your teacher is as stupid as you make him out to be then he's too stupid to take anything that doesn't reflect his views seriously.

Haha, for a second there I was thinking "Whoa, xtina, I didn't know you celebrated the week of 4/20" but then I read the second line.

You're really just flaunting the sun. It started snowing this morning and has dropped around 20 degrees from yesterday. :(

Anyway, D.O.A. did a kickass song about Vietnam, but I can't recall what the name is right now...there are some lyrics in "I Shithead" from it. Something along the lines of "...and I learned how a tin plate could hold a soldier's guts inside."

Then there's the innumerable other punk songs about 'Nam. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised you had to ask. Pretty much every American punk band, and a large number of Euro and Canadian bands as well (not to mention the Vietnamese Punx) has a song or two about Vietnam.

^ Some of my stoner buddies have been known to go for a week, yes...either that or just treat it as a week long holiday because the actual 4/20 isn't always the best time to get extremely baked. ;)

I know, everyday is the best time to get extremely baked.

Well, you'd like that about these people anyway - although for them it's usually "get extremely baked and spent 48 hours listening to Foghat and Led Zeppelin on headphones."

Car Jamming by The Clash

'Shy boy came from Missouri, boots blown off in a 60's war' - the song is generally about a soldier who loses his legs in a '60s war' (ie vietnam) and come back and he cant get a job, then he becomes a muderer.

Also Sean Flynn by The Clash - its an ode to Errol Flynn's son who was a photographer who went MIA in Vietnam.

Theres quite a few references to Vietnam on Combat Rock. I think someone already mentioned Straight To Hell.

'Before the storm of 59'

1959 being the start of the war...
