i already heard trivium, avenged sevenfold, and bullet for my valentine, and I'm looking for some more bands that fall in this genre that have some good guitar stuff (I really like avenged sevenfold's and trivium's solos, although many people will disagree I'm sure). Can anyone reccomend other bands in the same genre as trivium and avenged sevenfold that have good guitarists? thanks!

Doc and Dallas Coyle from God Forbid are great guitar players. Beyond those guys, though, most of the other metalcore bands with great guitar work have been mentioned.

At the Gates pretty much started the whole movement
They're metal though. To the threadstarter-if you have no problem with metal bands, check out In Flames, Soilwork, The Haunted, Testament, Nevermore, and The Absence. Amon Amarth are good, too-the riffs are really simple, but they sound great.

Probably God Forbid if your talking strictly metalcore

Between The Buried and Me: They may not have solos, but they do some pretty technical riffs.

??

Between The Buried And Me have quite a few solos.

I would recommend them due to their superior guitar work and complex song structures.

Check out the songs : Alaska, Aesthetic, and Backwards Marathon to start off with.

I actually enjoy Atreyu, and if any of you have actually heard Atreyu's first release, Visions, some of you would know might know that Dan Jacob's guitar work has stepped up into a whole new level since that release. Even though they might be slaughtered by a lot of you, and discarded for imo a lot more better bands, but i still think they are worth a listen here and there.

Try Hand of Blood by Bullet for my Valentine, there is one really fast passage, but it's really simple, just fast, just get the notes down and speed comes with it, everything else though has alot of finger work.

LoG if you classify them metalcore...

I call em Metal, but suit yourselves.

Also, anyone mind explaining what this gay new label "grindcore" means? Or post-anything... what the hell is that crap?

YouSmellExcited
09-01-2006, 11:30 PM
In reply to SolidxSnake

Grindcore is basically heavy heavy metal, that's closely related to Death Metal. It also has some elements of Hardcore and Thrash.
A few Grindcore bands are
Daughters(My favorite)
Agoraphobic Nosebleed
Anal ****
Blood Duster
**** and Ball Torture
GUT
Etc.

Now post "put genre here" is a renewed form of the second genre in the name, I.E. Post hardcore, post emo.
There is a large difference in Post hardcore and hardcore and post hardcore and emo.
For example, a few true hardcore bands would be
Bad Brains
Dead Kennedys
Bane
Comeback kid
and stuff like that.

Post hardcore would be bands such as
The Devil Wears Prada
Alexisonfire
Chiodos
Circa Survive
Underoath.

And the change in Emo is very different too, some true emo is not too bad.
Like
Kerosene
and that's all my brain can produce right now.

What most people call "emo" today is post emo with ****ty bands such as
My Chemical Romance
Bayside
Hawthorne Heights
Aiden
And more.

And that my boy should answer your questions.

YouSmellExcited

Alright man, that clears things up. I still don't understand why'd you call yourself "post-hardcore" if it's just as easy to say "hardcore". And before you say it because it sounds different, remember, metallica and slayer are both considered thrash, yet sound completely different ;).

JMO
