I wouldn't say he was an acoustic shredder, although he can play with a furiously quick right hand action- he's just a great all round composer, musician, and Virtuoso guitarist.

I met Al Di Meola at an Ovation guitar clinic a year ago. There was only like 50 people there. He played some songs as well. Very cool stuff.

Amazing player. An incredible musician. And undoubtfully one of the best fusion artists of all times.

He is the Steve Vai of jazz, spanish and classical.

Cheers!

PS:i would not call him shred. His music bears no similiarites to shred. Speed does not equal shredder. (as any good shredder will tell you)

And here's the Mediterranean Sundance song every self-respecting guitarist loves so much. The quality it pretty ****ty though, so try to find the version off the album next.

He's definitely had an influence on my steel-string playing. Great stuff.

He's ****ing awesome! i saw him do a seminar at Sam Ash a month of two ago. He was with this bongo player, i think his name was Gumby, and the expressions on his face were great! I didn't hear much of Al before that, but i plan on getting his new CD. He said it'll come out in either september or novmber, i don't remember. But i also got an Autograph on my mom's old Elegant Gypsy record.
