Hoe 'bout "The wind cries Mary" By Hendrix? It's well written on the lyrics, mellow solo, and is a cool guitar tab. Very nice song.
Also, "Something" By george Harrison. All of his songs were very melodic, and this one takes the cake in my book.

MIA by avenged sevenfold. its such an emotional song to begin with, and then at the end M Shadows sounds like he can't sing anymore because he's crying.

Plus the song adresses all the s**t with the war and soldiers and how they feel when they come home from killing so many people and watching all their friends get shot and blown up. I like the writing for it both musically and lyrically.

12-16-2006, 05:32 PM

Heaven Shall Burn - "Numbing The Pain" (There is such a vast, deep atmosphere in this song, proved by the punctuation of the piano parts.)
"No Quarter" (It doesn't matter if it's the Zep version or Tool's cover from Salvial, this one is something of an epic.)
Botch - "Afgamistam" (A slow, gentle tune that also served as something as a oddly-placed period to one long exclamatory sentence. It's not Botch's heaviest, but it could very well be the creepiest -- the song provides the imagery of a world at it's road's end.)
"Resolution" - Tool (When I say "Resolution," I mean the three track, Disposition/Reflection/Triad epic from Lateralus. The guitar provides such great imagery and the song spans over such a long stretch of time, it's easy to get lost within it.(
"Circle II The Lustful: If These Scars Could Speak" - ZAO (This song builds in such a way it's hard to ignore it.)

It's never over,
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over,
all my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her...
It's never over,
All my blood for the sweetness of her laughter...
It's never over,
She's a tear that hangs inside my soul forever...

To add on to what has been said

Frédéric Chopin - Opus 55, No. 1 - Nocturne in F minor
Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed
Paul McCartney - Band on the Run
Stevie Wonder - Isn't She Lovely

Its very cliche but
Mad World - Gary Jules

Listen to the cover of "Simple Man" by Shinedown. The only difference from the LS version is that it's done with on acoustic guitar, the way the song was meant to be. It just makes the song more personal.

A lot of Led Zeppelin is real beautiful. There is just something so mystical about their songs.

Going through life I never try to dwell on the past. I always try to look towards the future as something to work for and be excited about. I just finished my first year of college it's the greatest thing I ever experienced. I think back about my childhood and High School and feel as if those are all in the past and I can look forward to better things as a college student and an adult. Then I listen to one song. It's called "Sugar Mountain" by Neil Young. It's a song about how we all try to grow up so fast and forget about how great being young can be. Then I realize that I will never be able to relive those 19 years of my life again. And I cry. I bawl my eyes out. I hope that anyone else in a similar situation will find the song as meaningful as I do.

I also love Mark Knopfler & Chet Atkins' live acoustic version of Imagine by John Lennon. That version is very nice.

YES YES YES YES YES!!! Absolutely AMAZING performance!

In fact, I was hunting for a few videos of Chet on YouTube, and found his variation of Vincent by Don McLean. Watch it here. (

And further hunting, I found Chet and Don playing the song together! This was just so beautiful to watch, it brought a tear to my eye. ( Both videos where so touching, Chet was an incredible man.

Other than those two, I know a few other really beautiful songs...

- Benighted by Opeth
- Hours of Wealth by Opeth
- Pretty much everything off Opeth's Damnation album
- Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits
- Arriving Somewhere But Not Here by Porcupine Tree
- Heart Attack in a Lay By by Porcupine Tree
