they've always had prog inclination right from earlier songs like "Queen of the Reich" and after that they blossomed into a progressive outfit

Something like "Empire" of "Jet City Woman" is not.

Tate does sound like Dickinson.

They are prog metal, if not just hard rock.

They're great. Although their recently released followup to Operation:Mindcrime doesn't exactly match up to their old stuff.

Tate is my favorite metal vocalist. I don't think he sounds much like Dickinson... He has a very different kind of vibrato and timbre in general.

Well most of the ones I like aren't really talked about here so it's not surprising I'm always pissing over bands :p:

Well you should take a chance and try to start a discussion about the ones you like then. :)

Remember, everything you say is right. Plus, you're a Mod. Nothing bad can happen ;) :)

Puh... I can't be arsed... Either I properly introduce someone or I don't. The properly part usually happens on msn.

Do you like/have you heard Daniel Gildenlow? I always thought he had kind of a Tate vibe to his vocals..

Yeah, I have, but he doesn't have the vibrato I love Tate for...

Get the making of the Hearin' Aid 80's benefit thingy... Tate in that = heaven.

Not to stray too far from the subject, but bringing up that Hear N' Aid thing reminds of: everytime I watch the video for it, I swear to god I see Yngwie singing background vocals before and after the monster soloing wankfest that makes up 3/4 the song. Am I just seeing things or is he actually there?

I will agree with you on that, those and "Lady wore Black" and "Take Hold of the flame" - Geoff Tate sounds very similar to Dickinson.

and yeah, I wasn't overtly impressed with Mindcrime II, though it definitely has its moments. I wish Chris DeGarmo was still playing with them.

they were quite the unlucky band, if you know what i mean. seattle was not the place to come from in the 90s if your band was named Queensryche :haha

I don't think Tate sound like Dickinson... when a guy sings a bit higher then others it doesn't mean they got Dickinson in the band

Didn't they try to be...grunge or something during the 90's? All I have is Operation: Mindcrime and I like it a lot but I don't know if there's anything else worth buying. I certainly don't want grunge :) Hair metal doesn't really float my boat either, but if it's slightly proggy and not your average hair metal it might be ok.
