Seriously, I had no idea the Syd Barret topic was created when I came up with the idea for this topic. So my favourites would be (ranked in top 5, includes solo and band works)

1. Sunshine of Your Love (love that riff)
2. Layla (again, awesome riff.)
3. Tears in Heaven (beautiful song.)
4. Cocaine (it's catchy :D)
5. Crossroads (Yeah, I like the songs for the riffs.)

Tears in Heaven, probably
I don't know if he wrote it, but Tales of Great Ulysses is an awesome song by Cream.
Layla is classic of course.
Cocaine is good too.

Of course, you're aware Cocaine is a J.J. Cale song? And the original kicks serious ass.

If we are including groups Clapton was in, my favorite is probably something by Derek & the Dominoes. Not sure exactly what, I like most of the Layla double album.

Three favs

Layla: Dramatic and emotional, also an awesome riff.

Tears in Heaven: Emotional, amazing, and once you know the story behind it it is even sadder!!

Sunshine of your love: Great riff, fun to listen to, and also a great solo that can be improvised.

Swing low sweet chariot: Okay, not really. It's just funny hearing one guy going "sweet cheriot", I'm not sure if its Eric or not.

All of my fav cuts are Clapton Blues, Most off the live "Just One Night" LP (Circa 1980) and aren't nessisarily written by him.
#1. "Ramblin on my Mind/Have you ever loved a woman"
#2. "Further on up the road"
#3. "Early in the Morning"
#4. "Before you accuse me"
#5. "Worried life Blues"
BTW: Did you know that the signature riff in "Layla" is pure Duane Allman.

There's a song off the new album, I think it's called 'To Make Somebody Happy,' has great slide work in it.
The Crossroads DVD has a great version of 'I Shot the Sherriff.'

I use to like Clapton way back when, by which of course I mean when I smoked pot, but I grew out of him.

I was always quite fond of 'Lonely Stranger' off the Unplugged album.

Personally, one of my favorites from his solo career, is Motherless Children. Great Slide work, and riffs, chunky organ. Its great. Another of my favorites, is Tales of Brave Ulysses, or Swlabr, from the Cream days. And of course, who doesn't love Layla?

Let It Rain. End of story.

As much as I like "Let It Rain", Ringo Starr made it into a much better song with "It Don't Come Easy".

His favorites of mine are Hello Old Friend and Let it Grow...

Layla and Cocaine are pretty good, probably my top two favourites.

I like Tears In Heaven, partly because I spent ages learning it shortly after I started guitar and I remember feeling pretty damn proud of myself, even if I played it badly.

Although it's not one of his solo song's I like The Travelling Wilburys' 'My Back Pages', originally a Bob Dylan song.

Same here, only I would replace 'Well... All Right' with 'Presence of the Lord'.. great song.

Not that i'm aware of. It's probably just one of those things, you know? They have the same chord progression and the production sounds a little alike. I like playing the intro to Don't Come Easy then singing the words to Let it Rain when the verse comes. Both songs are each one of my favorites though!

Actually, I believe Eric Clapton sat in and played on a few takes. I wonder what he was thinking!

^^yeah. With Clapton's involvement with the Beatles and George Harrison and everything I figured either Clapton or Ringo or Harrison picked it up from one another and used it as there own. Both are good songs.

White Room has to be my favourite, though I can't think of a song he's done that I don't like. From all across his career, every song I've heard I've loved. As far as covers go, his JJ Cale covers like After Midnight and Cocaine are great, as is his version of Sweet Home Chicago and all his RJ covers for that matter.

Well... I REALLY love "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - played at the Concert For George.

Yeah, I know, it's not a Clapton song... but he played guitar and sang in it. And it's beautiful.

I'd have to say that's my favourite.

If I had to say one that wasn't a cover, I'd say Strange Brew.

I forgot Steppin' Out, thats such an amazing song and great fun to play. I also have a bootleg of SRV's last concert and when Clapton, SRV, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan and Robert Cray play Sweet Home Chicago, its absolutely incredible, Not really a clapton song, but he plays in it.
