We've had a thread that has people post their favorite lyrics, but i'm wondering what bands overall do you think have best writing?

Here are my favorite two of the moment:

Set Your Goals - Not just any pop-punk band, these guys know how to write and their lyrics make you feel even more positive than the music itself.

Stick To Your Guns - These guys' lyrics really get down to the point and hard. They know what's wrong with the world today and they know how they're going to try and help. Extremely well written.

Converge is sweet, but nothing beats good ol' casual hardcore lyrics.

Gorrila Biscuits, Comeback Kid are two sets of bands who's lyrics really stand out. Gotta love 'em. Stick To Your Guns is just fantastic, positive and hard hitting on problems.

I like the Blood Brothers lyrics. Even though as of late, they've been dumbed down by the Myspace army to simply being catch phrases on a website.

However, WHAM! are some of the greatest lyricists of the past 30 years.

Most bands have the worst lyrics ever. Bands like Job For a Cowboy have some really lame lyrics, but I guess people dont care about that.

On the other hand, Misery Signals has some sweet lyrics.

Set Your Goals have good lyrics, but Im looking for a band that can talk about all aspects of life, not just hangin out with your friends or staying young forever. Those are good topics, but I mean there IS other stuff in life to speak about as well.

+1 for Thrice, HORSE, Misery Signals and CTtS.

the ladder of the 4 being purely brilliant in every concievable way.

i personally find the traditional "hardcore" lyrics to be pretty **** to be hoenst lol, but to each their own

Wow, I just read some TAS lyrics. The only ones I had read before were Smoke Ya Later, which are actually decent. But, whoever writes their lyrics sucks.
Hmm. Shai Hulud, As Cities Burn, Poison the Well, Stick to Your Guns, and Casey Jones.

Lamb of God

Randy Blythe and Mark Morton are kick ass lyricists, Walk With Me in Hell was wrote by Mark and I love the lyrics in that, Now You've Got Something To Die For has simply amazing lyrics.

Also Matt Heafy knows his long words and knows how to put them into context, like The Deceived for example.

Well that's kind of you, a lil homo-erotic but nice still the same.

Now getting back to the matter at hand, are you trying to say you don't think Now You've Got Something To Die For has good lyrics?...care to enlighten me why? or do you not have a point to back it up?

Yeah there were a lot on The Note. Still had solid lyrics though. Songs like End With an Elipsis, Swan Song, My Therapy, etc. I still prefer their older stuff though.

For me I love Bane and Modern Life Is War when it comes to lyrics. "Destination: Death or Better Day" is just flat out amazing lyrically I think. I think Jacob Bannon (Converge) is just incredible though, same with Daryl Palumbo and his work with Glassjaw, especially off 'Everything You...'.
