It's cool to see some video in the news...but WMV was a really bad format to use. Microsoft barely supports the formats on Macs, and even acknowledges that the plugin for embedded use is crap. It works 15% of the time with Firefox, is completely nonfuctioning on Safari. K fine, Macs are only 5% of the computer market, but tons of people use Firefox.
Wouldn't it be a better idea to use mpeg or something really generic and proven to work on multiple platforms and browsers? And then don't force the computer to play with the WMP plugin, don't specify what plugin to use, so that the computer can use Quicktime or Realplayer, or whatever else it is set up.

i agree with you. i hate WMV and WMP. they suck. i get vids in WMV and i can never render them

It would be a good idea to have the videos in a format available to Quicktime, since it is compatible with mostly all browsers and computers.

^ Quicktime annoys the hell out of me so I never install it. Too many little icons appear and too much crap.

It's not within our power to change the video's format from wmv to another :( .

wmv has always worked for me, with the exception of my phone and I used firefox for years.

I agree that WMV is a bad format to use. you could upload it to youtube and link it from there, since flash is on 99.9% of computers, and won't require WMP or QT or Realplayer (not that anyone should use realplayer. eurgh.)

sorry I should have added that, even though WMV works for me i still dont agree with it as a filetype lol. I'd go with flash too TBH. But to be honest im glad it wasnt realplayer :p:

realplayer is ass lol

Macs suck anyway.
Quicktime .mpg/.mov tend to be biggerin filesize than .wmv so it can be a pain waiting that extra 5 seconds for a page load.
Though I do agree .wmv is sucky, I just find .mpg to awkward.
Realplayer? *shudders*, talk about emperor of the lame formats...

I agree with flash. All it requires a is a simple installation and basically all computers are compatible with it.

I wasn't suggesting using the Realplayer format...I was just pointing out that Real can play mpeg movies. I agree the Real format is completely pointless and annoying.
And it looks to me like you're using streaming the file from another server...I assume what's why you say you can't convert it...?
