http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300914 - songs for beginners from the guitar & bass basics forum. you'll find some acoustic songs in there - all the songs are recommended for beginners, so take your pick.

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199337 - this is a detailed thread with acoustic only songs both for beginners up to advanced, so look for songs labeled as being for beginners and you should come across something you like.

the first song I ever learned was "house of the rising sun." Check it out on the tabs, it has a lot of neccesary chords you will be using in the acoustic style.

Usually for beginners of electric guitar (if you would ever want to practice your power chords) Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water is a good starter, as well as any Nirvana song.

You probably want to start with the minor pentatonic scale, which is used in a lot of mordern rock songs.

Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" is always a good one to start out with. Oasis "Wonderwall" is pretty easy starting out too. Also I'd suggest you read the book Fretboard Logic Vol. 1 & 2 very helpful.
