Just realised that Massive Attack, Shellac and Madvillain are going to release albums. Also, Porcupine tree and Oceansize, reportedly. Woohoo!

Those plus Arcade Fire, Radiohead, EiTS, and Mars Volta, makes 2007 look very, very promising. Hopefully it will be better than 2006, which was quite a dissapointment.

EDIT : and to add to the list : Amon Tobin, Rufus Wainwright, M83(allegedly), The Stooges, Deltron 3030.

So far, I've found many of the new albums this year to be very disappointing. The new Bloc Party album was terrible, and the new Air album wasn't that brilliant. The new Rakes album is also quite possibly the worst album I've heard since that Kid Rock album that I once owned...

It's not terrible, but in comparison to last year and the bands that, this year, are releasing the stuff, it has been quite a disappointment. A few of the more unexpected ones have been better this year for me.

mattyp90
04-26-2007, 05:15 PM
I for one really love the new Bloc Party album. What's the point in comparing albums A and B, I listen to them both. The amount of enjoyment I get from one isn't comparable (in the dictionary?) with how much I get from the other. When the Silent Alarm tracks feel fresh to me I'll like them more, when the Weekend In The City tracks feel fresh to me, I'll like them more. The only problem I have with the new album is that the number of songs is less, and they didn't include "England (Blue Moon)".

Noah1982
04-26-2007, 05:35 PM
I say the Smashing Pumpkins new album will surpass for all three spots.

The reason: the last thing mentioned in the liner notes of their album Pieces Iscariot is, "Peace, love, empathy, 2007."

Somthings up. I feel it. Why else would 2007 have been mentioned?

Tsunoyukami

lets see how the year has turned out so far?
Modest Mouse - half of it was a let down, half of it was great
Arcade Fire - good, but not as good as expected
Bright Eyes - sort of a let down
Radiohead - not a chance that it will actually come out this year
Of Montreal - everything i hoped for and more
Wilco - not as good as YHF or AGiB, but still good
Devendra Banhart - nothing yet, hoping for brilliance

Somewhat Unexpected Favs:
Panda Bear
Deerhunter
Patrick Wolf
LCD Soundsystem
parts of CocoRosie

Were you refering to the Bloc Party album or the Rakes album? I gave the Bloc Party album a few listens, and I liked Silent Alarm quite a bit, even though I found Bloc Party quite boring live. I think 'Hunting For Witches' is rather ace, but that's as much as I liked. The second Rakes album is quite poor, not that their first album was very good. In fact both of those bands first albums were ruined by having Paul Epworth at the helm.

Andrewbiles
04-26-2007, 07:18 PM
^ I wasn't refering to anything in particular. I actually liked that Bloc Party album overall more than the debut, but I don't think it contains as catchy songs as the first, just more consistent.
Not heard the Rakes latest to comment on that.
It was more a comment trying to say that for the "names" that have released stuff this year (eg. Low, Arcade Fire, Grinderman), or the ones that I was hoping for more from (eg. Novi Split, Soulsavers, Marnie Stern), they haven't quite created stuff that I've found to be amazingly good - or what I had hoped for. Whereas last year the names weren't all that huge, but it seemed like the majority of the releases I would have been happy to rate at 7+ out of 10 if I were a reviewer.

Well, my three favorites so far are Modest Mouse, The Shins, and Dustin Kensrue.
The three I'm looking forward to the most are Eisley, Straylight Run and Postal Service[if it actually ends up coming out this year, anyways.]

I'd highly recommend Seventeen Evergreen's album to anyone looking for something new. Really great stuff.

Irony?

Can't wait for the Biffy album, Puzzle looks set to be amazing. What I've heard off it has been nothing short of brilliant, 'Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies' is there 'Bohemian Rhapsody'...I'm just so excited about it. Kerrang may rate their faves 5 ut of 5 a fair bit, but, READ the review. It's not like the other ones you see in there.

Arcade Fire and Bloc party both impressed me this year.

I'm interested in hearing more of the White Stripes.

And looking forward to possibly hearing some new Interpol. That would be nice. Very nice indeed.
