So...
This is the Most Epic Rock songs elimination thread.
I have put down 15 of what i think are the most epic songs of classic rock.
This is just a regular elimination thread, you all know the rules :

- One post per day
- One hurt and one heal per day/post
- That's pretty much it, have fun.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody [10]
Pink Floyd - Shine One You Crazy Diamond Pts. 1-4 [10]
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird [10]
The Doors - The Soft Parade [10]
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven [10]
Boston - ForePlay/Long Time [10]
The Grateful Dead - That's It For The Other One, Pts. 1-4 [10]
The Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want [10]
Billy Joel - Captain Jack [10]
Derek & The Dominoes - Layla [10]
Yes - I've Seen All Good People [10]
The Eagles - Hotel California [10]
Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage [10]
Peter Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do [10]
The Who - We Won't Get Fooloed Again [10]

I tried To pick evenly from most of the sub-genres, so lease don't complain.
Also, don't comlain that there's no Hendrix Song or Beatles song (or any band), because this is the epic song thread, and being and epic songs usually intail being 6+ min. long, and being very thought out with a great growing force, theory, and meaning.

Do you claim that some of their songs did not have an epic character?

Not with Jimi Hendrix, but with the beatles yes.
Yes, They are some of the greatest pop songs ever,
but they are still just pop songs.
I mean, there is just no comparison between, say,
Eleanor Rigby and Stairway to Heaven or Bohemian rhapsody.
Some great songs, but there is no arguement there.
And i was thrying to pick a hendrix songs,
but i couldn't think of one more fitting than
some of those that are currently up there.
On second though, now that i think of it,
Bold As Love should have been on there.
That's my bad.

You make a somewhat valid point, but no more spam please.

Yeah, you're right, Eleanor Rigby is a FAR superior song to both of those. I'd like to see either Queen or Led Zep write as beautiful string arrangements as the Beatles. And how can you not call Voodoo Child (Slight Return) an epic song. It's a classic.

These songs aren't epic.

An epic song elimation thread would ideally go in the prog forum. A word of advice though: if you bring that list in there, prepare to come out burnt to a crisp.

Why is Joe's Garage on there? There are many more truly epic Zappa songs like:

King Kong
Peaches En Regaila
Zoot Allures

And about a million more I dont feel like listing...

How bout everyone just post what epic song they think is the best??? I'd say Imagine, (Lennon), Across the Universe (Beatles), or 1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be) (Hendrix..which by the way is a much better "epic" than bold as love)

epic song: 2112 by Rush
epic solo: Pigs on the Wing(extended version) by Pink Floyd

The solo isn't complicated or long, it just has...something. The word I could think of the first time I tried to describe it someone was epic.

Good idea for a thread but ****, man it''s quite evident that everyone seems to have their own version of "epic".

But I for one agree with the thread starter's choices.

1. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody [10]
2. Pink Floyd - Shine One You Crazy Diamond Pts. 1-4 [11] Heal
3. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird [10]
4. The Doors - The Soft Parade [10]

11. Yes - I've Seen All Good People [11]

13. Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage [10]
14. Peter Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do [10]

What? The Beatles didn't write "just pop songs." Eleanor Rigby pwns the crap out of any led Zeppelin or Queen Song. Not to mention Hey Jude, an extremely epic song if there ever was one.

...dude, when you were a child was your crib painted with lead based paint? Look I love the beatles and I agree that they didn't only write pop music (helter skelter, c'mon) but both Queen and Zeppelin have songs greater than Elanor Rigby.
