yeah man. i have the try this on your piano 7" (back when mears was still in the band), and its good, but i was a little dubious when he left. yannis' vocals are awesome though, so its cool. hummer is a tune etc etc. i like them. not seen them live yet though. im sure i will soon though, possibly next term. i vaguely know yannis' sister actually. LOL at minor indie personalities' family members.

i made this thread ages ago

i really like the try this on your piano 7", though i do like them now. my live 12" came today, though i have no vinyl player at home, i was at the gig as well.

I know what you mean about knowing them, not me personally. but Loads of my uni friends seem to know them a lot. my friend jason got a shout out on that 12"

I didnt like andrew mears voice, and i also dont like youthmovies. However i do like yannis' voice very much and i do love foals, but i think they lost they mathy sound a bit once mears left. Still the best band around at the moment though!

I now prefer old Foals stuff with andrew on, and very much like youthmovies and have seen them live and have spoke to andrew mears in person.

Did this thread need to come back up from four months ago (or well over a year ago) when there was that other one hanging around on the first page?

First one to drop off this page can be closed, that makes it simple.

I think it's a signed copy of the new album and your mix released for download as an official remix.

Andrewbiles
03-28-2008, 01:33 PM
What a ripoff. They should at least give you a cut of the money they make from it.
Still, might lead to people asking and paying for remixes from you if you did win it.

Broken_Drum
03-28-2008, 01:37 PM
That's what I was thinking, not much consolation knowing that Foals and their label will be raking in the money from your remix.

Andrewbiles
03-28-2008, 01:53 PM
They probably won't make much from an unknown remixer, but if it is going to be download only they'll end up making a lot more from it than if it was placed on a solid format single. It's amazing how often bands manage to "scam" (for lack of a better word) fans in this way.

Going to download the pieces and just try and put it together in the way the actual song is, call it the 'non-remix remix' and let people download it for free. Wonder what the label would think if a big website did that. Could it be classed as illegal?

Broken_Drum
03-28-2008, 02:03 PM
That's not a bad idea. I'd love to see what kind of reaction the label would have.

kryptonite22

so i listened to these on last.fm and some of its not bad actually. i guess that'll teach me for assuming that anything the NME bums is probably shit. i hate that one song on the radio though.

No, but I can give you some pointers.... they play in the high frets a lot, I rember one of the saying he nearly always plays above the 12th fret becsue it sounds better.

Play on clean with the neck pickup selected/

So the other day I was watching the Glastonbury coverage on BBC and annoying Lauren Laverne was going on about how Foals were going mad and jumping around the time signatures, but in all fairness, they don't do they?
I'm pretty sure every song I've heard from them has been in 4/4.
Are they technically a math rock band? I'm erring on the 'no'.

God, that woman got on my nerves. "Nobody could dance to them! It was all 3/4!"

As for whether they're Math-Rock or not I'd say "no" too. I think NME are just looking for some 'crazy new genre' they can spoon feed the kids.

I saw that. Everything I've heard from them is in 4/4, but I do like this band. They are suprisingly good considering the NME likes them so much.
I don't think they are really math rock, they're just more technical than most popular bands around.
Also Lauren Lavergne is definately annoying.

SugarRush66

I'd say thnate math rock influences, but they're too simplistic to be "proper" math-rock. Although that's not meant as an insult or anything.

And I just love them. Knew that Big Big Love Fig. 2 was a great song, and hoped that the rest of the album could stand up to that, but didn't really think it would. S I was mightily happily surprised when, bar the first track (name escapes me) I love every song. One of the best albums I've bought recently.

Also, anyone know where I can download any of the old The Edmund Fitzgerald songs? I heard one live recording on YouTube, and was hooked.

They're kind of similar, but TTNG sound waaaaaaay more depressive and American Football-y.

New single/ video up on their myspace. Not at all what I was expecting but it's a rather welcome progression. Could hear traces of Thom Yorke vocally and a slow build-up reminiscent of Sigur Ros.

Spanish Sahara is pretty good, but I'm actually looking forward to hearing remixes of it more than the song itself. The ambient sounds are a bit shitty, I wanna see what other people can do to it. I do like that it's more post rawk . It's nice when its soft, but when it gets going, you can tell that that would be ****ing good live.
