I'm just now getting into him, and I'd like to know what his best/essential albums are.

Thanks.

I don't think he is classic rock, but his best album is definately Ah Via Musicom.

I only have Live in Austin, so I'm not too much of an authority. You should take this to the shred forum.

Cliffs of Dover is on there. EJ is simply amazing. I recommend downloading the first G3 Tour off GoogleVideo to anyone (Satch, Vai, EJ) amazing show. Cliffs of Dover, SRV, and there is one other song Eric played at G3. (I can't currently think of the name)

Eric Johnson is awesome, but he is Shred, not Classic Rock.

By the way, get Ah Via Musicom.

That solo on "Victory" is one of my favourites.

I kinda liked some of his stuff on "Venus Isle", I mean though Ah Via Musicom is traditionally considered to be the more shred oriented album.. "venus isle" had a really mature sound to it.
