Old Moon in The Arms of The New.

good music. Shame he's not making music anymore.

'Nothing makes sense without it' is the best (in my opinion), but that seems to be quite hard to buy these days I've noticed, 'Old moon...' or 'The thrill of the hunt' are both excellent records as well. Well, everything under the name has been top notch, so yeah...

01-03-2007, 07:50 PM
never got into them, but since everyone seems upset that he/they broke up, i'll give nothing makes sense without it another shot

In The Red.

I'll agree with Old Moon.... I'm currently trying to complete my discography for KOLS.

^ Good man

01-04-2007, 04:01 PM
Haha, yeah. I've got a looooong way to go, though.

01-04-2007, 04:01 PM
Yes they've(he's) recorded SO much stuff though haha.
I'm working on it as well.

I have what seems like all the big albums what should I get next?
Old Moon in the Arms of the New
Nothing Makes Sense Without it
Kind of Like Spitting
You Secretly Want Me Dead
Bridges Worth Burning
In the Red
The Thrill of the Hunt

'$100 Room', 'Learn: The Songs of Phil Ochs' and the split with Lemuria are the only full albums you're missing.

Nothing Makes Sense Without It, is their best recording in terms of consistantly amazing songs, and production value.

Bridges Worth Burning is my other favorite and the surprise Ben Gibbard track at the end is a really good one.

Sad to see him go.

01-05-2007, 01:49 PM
that last track with ben was what first led me to explore the rest of the album, that track's just perfect.

08-19-2008, 06:15 PM
All I've got by them is Thrill Of The Hunt, but it's easily one of my favorite CDs of all time. I need to get more material.

08-19-2008, 07:32 PM
i always always always hum the track "aubergine"

08-20-2008, 09:25 AM
since i last made this thread i delved deeper into KOLS.
ben is currently my favourite musician.

nothing makes sense without it and bridges worth burning are his best recordings in my opinion.

also, i listened to the demos he uploaded to his myspace and their quite cool too

08-20-2008, 10:31 AM
I haven't listened to much KOLS, but "Canaries" is a really really good song.

Just a shame about the name of the project; 'Fun with friends'. Although it does exactly what it says on the tin, it's clear Ben isn't very good with band names (just fortunate he's great at writing songs).

I'm in love with One-Hundred Dollar Room at the moment.

08-22-2008, 11:27 AM
I love love love love love love this man.

And much thanks to Andrew, really the only reason I started listening to this band was because waaay wayy back, I checked his, and I saw this was his top artist, and I figured that if this is the band out the hundreds, (thousandish?) he listens to that he listens to the most, it has to be good.

But yeah, everything by him is such gold.

has anyone seen these videos ?
one bird, one stone and dodge dart are particularly great.

and does anyone know who's the lady who sings in the album version of one bird, one stone?

08-25-2008, 12:10 PM
^ Have a reasonably good copy of that set on my computer somewhere. Fantastic bunch of videos, real passion and power in the playing.
Was it Corrina Repp on 'One bird one stone'? I think he was dating her around that time and I know she appeared on a few of his recordings. She does some great solo stuff (even if it's not her I'd recommend checking her out).

08-25-2008, 03:23 PM
thanks man.
and yes, the performance was really intense. i tried desperatly but couldn't see what guitar david j (it's him right?) is playing

08-25-2008, 05:34 PM
Yeah that is David J, no idea on the guitar though. At points it looks like a strat but at others it looks like something entirely different.

Glad you posted those videos, it has solved the mystery of where it was performed. I've never made the connection with that venue and this set ( Feel really stupid now. Definitely the same place, would just like to know the date now. Have always had it listed as 'Unknown venue/date' and somewhere around 2003/04 rather than 2001. Quite a lot of 'Bridges...' tracks played so it must have been around the release of that album.

08-25-2008, 08:39 PM
yeah, i'd say it was after the release of bridges, they played one bird one stone though...
the other set seems like an year later

and david's guitar at points also looks like a casino to me!

08-25-2008, 08:58 PM
The acoustic set is definitely from 17th August '02 and there is a recording somewhere from Seattle in December '01 so the electric show may be from that tour. Probably won't ever find out. Chances are it's from the December tour though because of the personnel and equipment. But then again there could have been more shows in between.

Yeah, I did think Gibson ES (which is the same shape as the Casino from what I can remember) at one point but then around the 3 minute mark the body of the guitar doesn't look quite big enough.

Elizabeth Elmore is the one who sings in one hundred dollar room. according to pitchfork

08-26-2008, 11:17 AM
Just grabbed the CD. Corrina Repp singles on 'One bird one stone' and 'Pick a town, find a box, live alone', Elizabeth Elmore sings on 'Free advice' and Sandy Shockley sings on 'Scene' apparently.
F*ck pitchfork, they have no clue about anything :p:

Just discovered the inner tray of my copy has been destroyed, going to have to find a spare. Those teeth things always break off.

08-27-2008, 08:46 AM
i tabbed "i know you heard me the first time" if anyone cares

08-27-2008, 10:57 AM
Nice one, definitely upload it!

Was just working out the outro to 'I want out', I think it's my favourite KoLS riff...

So glad this thread was bumped, having a huge stint of listening to the albums.

08-27-2008, 03:42 PM
i've uploaded it. i'm waiting for aproval

08-28-2008, 09:45 AM
Nice one, will try and remember to give it a go later on.

One bird, one stone was brilliant.
skating listening to kols is so beautifull

03-25-2011, 12:49 PM
Sorry for a 3 year bump but I've finally reached the point of setting up a blogspot to upload some of the KoLS bootlegs and rarities I have lying around. Only started it yesterday and uploads will likely be sporadic. I'm going to try and upload a bunch this weekend.

Here's the link for anyone interested:

My friend took guitar lessons from this guy, but I never got to meet him. I guess he's pretty cool.
