So it's pretty damn commercial, but God don't I just feel like getting up and dancing. I hope the rest of the record is as good.

wow, disco with that orchestration huh?

pretty crazy, not what i would expect, but certainly not bad in the least, very catchy.

i hope the rest of the record is as good, but i also hope the rest of the record is different. though i sure would hate to say "i wanna hear more of what the older stuff sounded like", i definitely wouldn't want them to release a whole album of songs this dance-y.

I like it.

The rest better be this good.

My first thought was "What the hell were they thinking?", but it's started to grow a little bit. A good amount of Johnny Marr influence there, I think.

Any release date yet? I've heard March...

Not bad, but it seems like he's holding his vocals way more than in previous albums, and that's pretty much what I liked best about modest mouse. Anyways, I'd like to hear a version of this with loud, crazy vocals in the verses. Good little riffs though, very danc-y indeed.

yeah it's pretty awesome. dig it a lot! not the typical MM songwritting, Marr's influence I bet. (I don't much of the smiths.

i like it, i've been listening to it alot recently, i cant wait for the album. But im dreading when it gets to the point where its been overplayed. stupid kroq is bound to jump on this song and murder it like it did with float on.

It seems there taking the step towards the mainstream on the last album further again.
But i don't think that's all that bad it's a great track anyway.

I'm not all that moved. It isn't bad, but it certainly isn't as good as some of their older stuff. It is rather surprising though. I've never been indifferent about a MM song. I've either loved it or hated it.

i seriously hated it....at first.

i also had some pretty high expectations, i figured the song should have had something more...like it built up to nothing. like it chould have been a b-side to good news.

but the more i listened to it the more i liked it. hopefully the rest of the album is good as well.

I'm sure this is the single (right?), and therefore I understand somewhat why it seems so uncontrollably catchy at first. Marr is one of my favorite guitarists ever, so I hope he does something a bit more interesting than this track elsewhere on the album. It's actually pretty good though, the album should be interesting at least.

I think it's great. As somebody said, though, I wish he would have let loose with his voice like on their older stuff. I like his yelping/howling type of singing.

I love Johnny Marr, I absolutely idolise Isacc Brock but from what i've heard, their new music is absolutely crap. Bring back the good old see saw craziness of "Lonesome Crowded West"

Even Good News was better than this!

I liked it a lot at first, but then I got to listening to past MM stuff, and Dashboard really isn't appealing to me now. I'm hoping that this track is going to be like Float On from Good News: The radio-friendly track while the rest of the CD has GREAT stuff. I wouldn't mind something like "Lonesome Crowded West" or "Interstate 8" either...

let's all be honest with ourselves here. for a pop band, the songs are not half bad. for modest mouse, it's complete shit. there's no justification for completely selling out your band, no matter how much money was involved.

I like it a lot...

IMO, there's two Modest Mouses...

Modest Mouse before The Moon and Antarctica, and Modest Mouse after M&A.

I like both of them

A lot of people say they sold out, but me on the other hand, I'm not that picky. As long as Isaac Brock is still making good music, Modest Mouse will always be my favorite band... Just look at my username, lol. :p:

I don't care if they've sold out, it's still a good song. Stop being an eletist douche and learn to appreciate pop music.

:haha :haha

Go listen to the UK Subs & The Velvet Underground and mastorbate to music that never "sold out."

The reason bands go to a bigger label is to get better distribution to more people. To get better recording equipment to make the records sound better. If it were a money factor they wouldn't be have chosen to play music, and they wouldn't have stayed on an indie label for so long.

Go die. If you're against commercialism then you're a fool. The only time is when it literally threatens the quality of the music.

And let's all be honest, Modest Mouse never has had a 100% amazing cd, they are known for putting really good songs and really really bad songs out. There is hardly an inbetween.

If anything it's the band's bad judgement that makes this song bad and I think it is bad, but we'll judge the quality of it when the CD comes out.

sure it's "selling out". You can't deny that. But is it so bad? I mean I'm sorry, I really like Dashboard. Is it as good as gems like "Talking Shit..." and "Teeth like God's Shoeshine"? Maybe not, but it's still damn good. They went from making eccentric indie rock to eccentric indie pop, but guess what? they are kicking ass with both styles.

Speak for yourself. Lonesome Crowded West is the most complete album I know. It's probably my second favorite album ever. And every other album of theirs (except for maybe Sad Sappy Sucker) are also ridiculously good and consistent.

isaac is from my home town and went to my high school. everyone who knows any shit about them from seattle thinks they're horrible now. they even write articles about it in our local newspaper. not because they're "elitist" or hate all sell outs, but because its an obvious fact.

getting rich is fine, obviously from my screen name you should be able to see that i don't mind bands that get money. its altogether changing your music style to appeal to the mainstream that is worthless. i'm saying right now, in comparison to previous records released, the quality is shit. and i do think they have put out 100% amazing albums- plural. isaac has even admitted that the epic had asked them to basically change their sound. and they did for the cash flow.

i can see that you mostly don't know much about them, which is fine. but try being a fan for ten years and then tell me you still enjoy their new single.

Well I've been a fan since Lonesome Crowded West when I heard Polar Opposites on an indie radio. I saw them in concert in '98 or '97. That's 10 years ago buddy so don't pull the old "but us veteran fans know better" bullshit. Don't place your musical elitism on the idea that you've known the music longer.

here's the deal. i am entitled to my opinion. if you don't agree with it that's fine. i do think it's fairly pathetic that you people can't form a rebuttle without calling names or telling me to die or making assumptions and generalizations. it takes a real big person to be an ass over the internet.

Don't you mean a real small person? Unless you're refering to big as hot sexy egos and lazer beams that attract women by the dozens. Then yes.

I just think it's nothing to get hot and bothered about. I'm sure the new album will have it's "Ocean Breathes Salty" and it will have it's "Float On"

The latter being terrible and the former being genius.

Oh and The Moon and Antarctica is their best cd bar none IMO.

Never called you a name or told you die. And i made the same basic assumptions as you made about others, so that response was not exactly purposeful (then again this one might not be either)
