Hi shredders....

Do you guys know any songs that could probably express "the perfection of sweep picking at its highest majestic level"

You know songs on the level of Serrana (to bad there ain't no album guitar version of it)

I'm currently into sweep picking, and need lots of hearing material to inspire new sweep licks.........

I'm currently listening to Altitudes by Jason Becker, and better SP song ??

Speed Metal Symphony if you haven't heard it. The beginning is all Am sweeping by Jason and the end is a Cmaj sweep i coined it the "jackpot sound" 'cause it sounds like a slot machine when you win

Anywho, if you want real sweep picking, check out Triple Corpse Hammerblow by Children of Bodom. Alexi incorporates alternate picking and sweeping into the interlude lick. I'll make a list of songs you should check out w/ sweeps

Warheart-Children of Bodom
La Leyenda Del Hada Y El Mago-Rata Blanca
Hanger 18-Megadeth
The River Dragon Has Come-Nevermore
Endless Sacrifice-Dream Theater
Out of The Ashes-Symphony X

paul stringskips everything to get that chunkie sound it gives your playing. It makes your playing more defined.

Actually Paul Gilbert has said on several occaisions that he's not really that good at sweeping, on the turnarounds he claims his timing is a bit suspect so he prefers to string skip things 'cos that way it'll be in time better.

Beckerism
01-22-2007, 09:17 PM
He's actually said both.

"Why does PG string skip everything? Because he's better than joo."

You mean, the chunk gained by the attack by the pick on each note ??

Heck, why not use a Compressor instead ??

Fermented Offal Discharge - Necrophagist (Muhammed Suicmez)
Freight Train - Nitro (MAB)
Far Beyond the Sun - Yngwie Malmsteen
Psalm of Lydia - Nevermore (Jeff Loomis)

However, anything by Rusty Cooley takes the cake.

This song. I learned it and it helped loads with my sweep picking. By the way, what would you guys rate the difficulty of this song?

Edit: I should probably say I can't play this perfectly because I kind of stated otherwise but I just have to work my way up on parts of the song. :peace:

bluespunkmetal
02-06-2007, 06:23 AM
^Pretty hard..... for me though...

Oh yeah, dudes, I just learned something new.......

It's actually easier to sweep with your picking hand up far from the bridge section......

Still feels "bouncy" on the lower strings though... Anyone know how to solve this ??
