My dad found one at good will. Is it worth getting? He said it looked barely used and practically brand new.

DEFINATELY!

Get it now before someone else does. It should have a red label inside, and if it says "Nippon Gakki" on the label then even better. They are pretty much the creme de la creme of all Yamaha acoustics (the Nippon Gakkis are even better). They were made in Japan in the late 60s/early 70s and are really great guitars. I have a FG-150, which is the small bodied model of the FG-140; it's more of a 000 type shape. At $35 that is a steal for a guitar that's MIJ, all solid construction and probably over 35 years old. The aged wood sounds amazing - I absolutely love mine.

Hope you get it

EDIT: at the moment, there are FG-150s going on ebay for over $200, one up at $475. No FG-140s on at the moment though, but they tend to go for around the same I think.

Sweet. I am at college so I asked him to go back and get it. Hopefully it's still there. He said he remembered it having a red label inside that said Nippon so I guess that it good. Then I can keep it or sell it and use the money to upgrade my crappy electric.

I hope you get it, cause they're really nice guitars (if my 150 if anything to go by). The tone is just spot on. Nice and defined too, but not too much so that chords are awful. I mean mine being the 000 shape is more suited to fingerstyle, but I believe that the 140 is fantastic for chordwork, and it does fignerstyle very well too.

OK, so I got it!!! And holy crap if my dad isn't lying to me (he likes to do that, like tell me my car got hit everyday that I'm at school). He said he took it to Mozingo Music (the music store where i live) and the guy told him it was worth about $1500. Now I don't know about that, but it is in excellent shape and it has the Nippon Gakki label on the inside. It even has really old strings on it, not that it probably matters, but we.

Now, I told him to get it for me so he did. Now that he knows it's worth $1500 (if it actually is) hopefully he still will let me have it. I don't want a $1500 acoustic guitar so maybe we can split it and I can get a pimp electric and an amp with it.

Two questions, what is MIJ and "000 type shape"?

Congrats! They really are great guitars, and I think the best Yamaha have ever made. Even pretty shabby Nippon Gakkis go for loads, and to a collector if it's in great condition I would say someone probably would pay $1000 for it at least. Get some new strings, clean it up and restring it and you'll have a wonderful guitar.

MIJ = Made in Japan

I'll go ahead and explain the cardinals stuff on the wall. Now that the Cardinals won the World Series my dad turned our living room into a STL sports shrine.

I also did tell him to untape the picks from the guitar.

So it'll be cool when I clean up the fret board and change the strings (they are nasty looking).I also looked up the serial number and the thing was made on my birthday. weird

whats that thing taped on the bottom right hand corner of the guitar?
Is it a couple of picks or something?

4 year old thread resurrection there dude

but while we're on the topic, I recently picked up an fg 75, 110, and 230

super cool guitars, i cant believe something i spent $40 on sounds as good as my taylor

taylor kills it on playability though

but they're still awesome
