If we are to use a phone dial to find a word associated with numbers, 312 is problematic because of the 1. However, I think it's a strong enough connection to not discard it yet. For example, 312 is the area code in Chicago. It is also a prefix in Turkey (giving 90-312). Perhaps you're on the right track.

It hints to use level 28. In 28 we had images that were made of materials that related to wedding anniversaries. There was a question mark on the right hand box in level 28 (where the yellow image is in this puzzle).

Ok. He was travelling down the highway at a constant speed. He saw his lucky two-digit number on a milestone. An irrelevant ammount of time later, he saw the same number in reverse order. The exact same amount of time later he saw his lucky number again, only with a zero between the digits. Using logic (and a bit of help from my dad) I saw that the 3 numbers had to be equidistant. Then I used trial and error to find:

Take 12, plus 2, multiplied by 8. Subtract that by 3 to the power of 2. Take the result by the power of 3 and add that to 365.

An update. I replied to Tim:

Unsuprisingly, I obect whole-heartedly. Using the link from the UG thread, I found this test, and having read through the rules there was nothing that implied that you would be unhappy with people working together.

As far as I could tell, it was just another series of puzzles on the internet. Sometimes you get stuck, and people help.

Now, from a personal point of view, I have spent a fair amount of time working out a large number of answers, and that is because in my spare time, it's quite enjoyable to test myself with this. It is awfully frustrating, that I can't progress, because you are unhappy that we've done something that isn't clearly outlawed in your rules (given at the beginning of the test)

You can help others, there's no way I can stop that. However, posting links to EVERY level directly ONTO a PUBLIC forum that everyone can find... I have to change quite a bit to the first fifty levels because of this, unless the admin agrees with me and comes and edits/deletes the whole thread. If you are that interested, like everyone else on Facebook, you should have posted and asked for hints, not answers without even knowing how to do half of the levels. If you really want to, I can post that warning just for your sake, but at least for now, I cannot let you, Eric, or anyone on Ultimate

I would be extremely suprised if many people, who themselves aren't members of the UG forum would find the said thread that offends you so. Now I don't doubt that there will be the odd one or two people who will find it, but they have to be looking extremely hard to find a forum with an answer!!

My other issue is that if you had a problem with spoilers why wasn't it mentioned on the intro (level0.html) page?? As I've tried to re-iterate, if you were going to have such an issue with people working together to progress through a puzzle, then you should've said so on that page. Perhaps a warning, at that point, along the lines of, please don't post answers up on public forums. There's no point in posting a bulletin on facebook saying that you condemn people posting answers on a website that you probably didn't know existed before it was brought to light, because the people who have found your test through Ultimate-Guitar aren't likely to be visiting the facebook group to check for updates.

You seem to be overlooking the fact, that regardless of how people got to whatever stage they are at, they've decided they want to challenge themselves by using your test. The thread is merely a discussion; we throw ideas back and forwards, and when we get a successful result, we declare it.

Instead of condemnation, perhaps you should be encouraging anybody who shows an interest in your challenge. Whilst it may seem back-handed, it is nonetheless a compliment that a group of people are working together to try and answer your test.

I think that the major flaw in this line of logic is that some of us did post links or actual answers to his, for lack of a better term, "brain teasers." obviously, any creator of a puzzle game would object to his or her answers being displayed for any idiot to manipulate their way through the puzzle. unfortunately, we were all unaware that Mr. Tang would be so stringent. we were foolish, but I think that if we were to collectively delete all of the posts giving direct answers, we would be absolved from this horrible fate of never, ever getting further in this test on our respective IPs. if we could come to some terms, I'm sure this could devolve into a friendly support thread. I personally am willing to start this test over again, considering I am currently stunted in progress. I don't want to cheat, and I don't think anyone else who is serious in wanting to figure this shit out for themselves wants to either.

I am not allowing anyone to continue at the moment; however, if I see that the admin edits the thread as a whole and removes all spoilers, and that the ones who had skipped levels gone back and redo them, I will reconsider letting everyone back into the game. Just want to emphasize that I'm not trying to be mean or holding any grudges, and I'm trying to be very lenient, but at the same time, fair to everyone else who has come a long way to solve each level spoil-free. Of course, if I do let everyone off the hook, I expect that if one person gets the answer, he/she help the others by guiding hints along the way, not "oh, here's the answer to level blahblah, just cuz". This would ruin the fun of anyone actually trying to solve the level. I do want you to understand that with these excessive spoilers, most other players would be more frustrated than I am. Your quiz is merely a form of entertainment. You should be happy that this many people are interested in your quiz. If they need a hint ot answer to get to the next level, so be it. To be completely honest, your quiz has so many random tangents, it seems to be virtually impossible, and only people WITHOUT a life would spend so much time trying to get it.

And if they DO have a life, it would take a lot longer than a couple days to get it. An internet forum that has 30 pages over the past 5 days and only to level 50 (I don't remember which exactly) should tell you something that for entertainment, people can actually give hints as oppose to tell people how to think to get the answer.

Its all natural psychology that we just want to help each other out. Are you making money out of this? Why do you care where they start? Your answers are so damn random in a lot of cases, and a lot of the time the "puzzles" don't make sense. If you were to read these posts here, you'd realize that almost all of them explain how they got them.

In the long run, this is just like the SAT. I know it's not nearly as important, but think about it: how can someone learn and do well on the SAT if you are just spitting them answers, especially say the answers to all the questions so they can move on? When you help someone with the SATs, you guide them through to the answer. Telling them the answer, even explaining how they arrive the answer, without letting them try themselves, I can say it's wasting more time than acutally helping them. This is the same. I'm glad it's entertainment for everyone here, but even if you are just shouting answers at everyone in a private forum, I wouldn't mind. Google is sending nearly one person a minute to your site, sending them stuff they do not want to see. As I already said, by "renovating" this thread up, you are doing more than helping me, rather, you are helping yourself, as well as everyone else who is coming through on Google.

People also enjoy success. Feeling like they're progressing in the test might be just as good for them as trying to figure everything out for themselves. Hell, I didn't even understand how to figure out the answers until I got to about level 20, then finally cracked how you think to get some of the answers. And levels after that, I still don't know how in the world you get some of them.

You must take pride in your intellect when it takes FORUMS of people to figure out a quiz that you MADE UP! Almost as random as the impossible quiz, almost.

Sadly, the issue that is most prevalent here is self-conceit. There are 322 members to his facebook group, and I imagine there are a host of other people who have decided that they want to try this out. Without a doubt, there should be a fair amount of praise in the direction of Tim Tang for spending his time constructing this website. The puzzles are taxing (if not somewhat obscure at times), but overall the test is generally quite enjoyable.

I think the problem, however, is partly from over-valuing the test. It appears to me that he perceives his test as being something akin to the academic educaiton system. I can understand that in some respects, you can learn something from the test, but by no means does the Tim Tang Test hold the same gravitas or importance as a system that shapes your life in the long-term. Failing to get the answer to level 73 doesn't hold the same ramifications as failing an English 'A' level for a prospective journalist.

That said, I can understand a level of frustration, that time has been put into this by him, and others who have worked through it, and they might feel an injustice (of sorts) if people are able to breeze through it. The argument that by "cheating" (as it has been perceived) will leave us feeling less satisfied in working through the test, should therefore be punishment enough. I personally believe, that he should be embracing anyone who wants to take the test, and should the single discussion on one forum should not be criticised. Perhaps the thread title could be changed to "Tim Tang Test!!! - Answers/Spoilers". That way someone who is seraching for The Tim Tang Test in search of hints will know to avoid this hit because it contains answers.

Now, regardless of my personal opinions, I now nothing will result from this. He will either continue to prevent people from obtaining the .xml file needed to progress in the hope that a number of people will just give up, or he will change the levels. The latter would be a waste of time (even if he were just to change the directories in which the levels are found), whilst the former will just be spitting in the faces of people who have actually spent time and effort in working through the puzzles (regardless of whether they've read one or two answers).

Tim Tang has every right to police and maintain his test as he likes. Where I agree that conversing with each other, sending emails etc to get help with answers is just fine, the only issue here is that if I go to google and type "Tim Tang" this thread is the second hit. Even if I'm NOT looking for help, and NOT looking for the answers, I find this thread just by looking for the test.

I find it very rude to bash someone who has tried to take something he enjoys making and putting it out for all of us to try to have fun solving. It took me 3 weeks to get to level 52, and yes I needed help from time to time, and there are people who will give you a push, or point you in the right direction. But there was one level that I couldn't get because I couldn't see what I could see. I was told the answer to that level because there was no way for me to figure it out.

To those of you who say the answers don't make sense... if you had taken the time to work the answers out on your own, they would make perfect sense to you. That's the beauty of the test, most of the answers, when you finally get them are so obvious.

You all have a choice to make, respect his right to manage this online brain teaser as he likes, and abide by his rules, and continue playing. Or realize that level 49 is as far as you're going to get.

Here's my problem. I have answered all of the levels, I haven't skipped any (even when it was apparent you could skip from level 6 to 9, or 9 to 12, or whatever it was). There have been occasions where I haven't got the answer, and I've thrown suggestions back and forwards on this forum. When an answer is given, I still try to use that information and work out how it was obtained. Now regardless of this, I can't progress because 1 person has decided that my (self-confessed) use of this forum (which I have been a member of for almost 5 years) is enough to stop me from progressing.

Now, I've gone about approaching this test in the way that I want to. This isn't something that is necessary - this is purely an enjoyable way to spend my free time, testing myself. I am not going to question other people's methods. Some people might wish to skip to the same level as everyone else so they can contribute in the discussion, some people might only want to spend 5 or 10 minutes here and there, and as a result they only want to do levels that don't require you to figure out binary, or map co-ordinates. To me, condemning us for using this forum is tantamount to throwing the rattle out of the pram.

If you read back a handful of pages, you will realise that I've found the answer to level 52, using hints from another website. Without any knowledge of the picture, I am able to skip forward, but I don't wish to do this, as I have no context from my answer, and level 51 may be of some importance at a later stage.

Edit: I assure you, the above post will only fan the flames. I imagine what will happen is he'll change the directories. So instead of it being www.timtang.com/ttt/yadayadayada, it might become www.timtangtest.com/tttt/yadayadayada. And there might be a comment on the 404 page telling you to PM him at facebook for hints to get back to where you were (giving him a chance to do an IP search to check whether you can continue).

Some of the hints are very obvious, but I cleared my history today (I'm going away for a couple of months on Thursday, and as someone else will be looking after my laptop, I want to leave this with nothing on it other than my music) and I can't be bothered to go through every level and remember the context of the puzzle for my hint

You can do one of two things, as I can see it. Save the URL to level 50 as a favourite, and then ask for the thread to be closed. Start up a new thread along the lines of "Tim Tang Test - Spoilers", and continue working from their. Perhaps we can agree at that point not to post the actual answers. Alternatively, just stop. There are a host of different tests/challenges on the internet that are as taxing that you can do instead. The reason why we've been doing this test is because for one reason or another the threadstarter posted it up, and people worked together to progress. Try and get the same core of people and you can do a different test in the same manner.

I already promised to let everyone continue if they remove all answers, especially links, because everyone, by simply googling Tim Tang or Tim Tang Test, can now see. I appreciate the fact that you are sending in suggestions, but I agree with how you cannot control others from keep posting spoilers. All the other forums (e.g. Nordinho) that have started about TTT, users PMed each other if it contains spoilers, just like how I do it on Facebook. So I may as well let it be, and just keep a close eye on UG from now on. Thank you for your efforts.

In an effort to save you making changes, I have started up a new thread on UG, and also requested the old one is closed down. I'm not making any promises, but changes may be in place.

In the mean time, is there any chance of the .xml, as I'd like to progress naturally (regardless of knowing the answer to the elusive 51st level)

I have blocked everyone from progressing, including the ones who have done it themselves, until I completely change up the old answers. Sorry but you will have to wait a day or two.

Out of interest, is the test still up from level 52? And would you be overly offended if I PM'ed the link to level 52 to the select few who had worked together to get to level 50!

You can, but the level 52 you are on is in the wrong directory, which means you will soon hit a CHEATER page.

And when did we beat level 50?

We didn't. Reading the clues on Nordinho, I figured out the answer to level 51 - which gives the URL to level 52.

However, as stated in my above post, it looks like his changing the directories of some parts of his test, so even skipping to level 52 would be folly as it will eventually lead us to a dead end.

Okay, I am officially offering my resignation in trying to fight ****ing Tim Tang.

This test obviously means more to you than virtually anything else, or else why would you spend so much time trying to argue with online forums on why your test is the ultimate (no pun intended) test for intelligence. If people find it boring, then they obviously won't do more of the questions, even if they have started at the beginning and see almost no correlation between your answers and the questions?

This is a public place, and if they see that we are giving away answers from page 1, then they have their own choice tomake on whether to continue or not.
