How many songs do you all think we should play for a "30 minute" set for a battle of the bands? It's on Saturday, we have 6 good songs prepared and I've convinced myself that's enough taking into account applause, set up time bleeding into set time, and witty banter. The set each band gets is more like 25 minutes anyway and each song averages at about 3:30.

My band usually does about 3 or 4 short songs and one long song/extended jam for 30 minute shows.

My band usually does 5 songs for a half hour set, with time for tuning and setup, and a short extended jam on the last song.

My band would do about 7 or 8 songs for a half hour set.

Also, have a backup plan in case you run out of material, preferably involving music rather than banter or whatever :)

Well why the heck wouldn't you just say talking?

^^Has nothing to do with the topic^^
I'd do 4 or 5 songs. You want to have plenty of time if something goes wrong.

Plan like 4 or 5 to get in for sure, then add a 6th incase you have the extra time.

Haha, thanks all. I'm a little strange with my choice of words sometimes (check out my UG articles). Six works pretty well then to fill up the time, wish us luck. There's a link to my band website in my siggy, I would be the lead guitarist.

i would play as many as you can fit...but if you have to pick and choose make sure you leave out the one that is only so so to you guys...unless all your songs are amazing too you. then cheers. but more than likely you have one that is only so-so.

+1 for an nice website by the way. very profesional even though it doesn't sound like you guys have even gotten out of the "local" status yet. good work.
