Your band's set list

View Full Version : Your band's set list

07-08-2007, 08:41 AM
Post what songs your band knows how to play, or a set list from your shows so people can comment on them.

Ours is (we're a 5 piece band me being the drummer and the list in no particular order) :

The Beatles - I want to hold your hand / Twist and Shout / Rocky Racoon / She Loves You/ Blackbird

Guns and Roses - Rocket Queen

Kiss - Do You Love Me/ Hard Luck Woman / Rock and Roll all Nite

Van Halen - Aint talkin bout love

Chuck Berry and Stray Cats - Intro of Johnny B. Good fused into "Rock This Town"

George Harrison - What is my life, isnt it a pity, my sweet lord

John Lennon - Instant Karma

Santana - Oye Como Va

Reo Speedwagon - Take it on the Run (we don't really play this anymore because at our first gig we TOTALLY screwed it up, we just randomly stopped in the middle of the song)

So any comments or maybe post your own set list?

07-08-2007, 08:46 AM
That list way pretty boring. Throw something a little more exciting in there that'll get the crowd going. Play some chili peppers. ACDC maybe?

07-08-2007, 08:47 AM
In fact why don't you play Shout it out loud for the finale?

07-08-2007, 08:49 AM
good list. you should add some zeppelin or ac/dc

07-08-2007, 08:55 AM
Actually we're gonna be adding two RHCP songs next - Under the Bridge and Breaking the Girl. And after that we're gonna be doing some Led Zeppelin. Surely we're gonna do some AC/DC soon, we're a new band just adding as many songs as possible before we start doing more gigs.

The story behind the band is that me and the lead guitarist we're in the same class in school and he's like "you play the drums right?" I said yeah so he said he's in this band who needs a drummer for a gig coming up in 2 weeks. So I joined and had to learn most of those songs (Rocket Queen being the toughest). So we played the show and kinda sucked I gotta admit but now that we don't have to worry about the stress of a coming gig we're just working on getting tight as a band and adding more songs to our list before we sign up for another gig.

Validus - The Hurt - Fast metallica sounding song.
Validus - Escape - Slow build-up song with some harmony
Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls (Cover) - In C Standard
Validus - Thralls of Gray - A more heavy rock sounding song
Validus - Any Gross Lot - A 7 string song that builds up until it's just blaring at the end of it

Then at the moment we have a few backup songs

Validus - Arabian Goggles (probably won't be real title? heh) - A very eastern-sounding song w/ harmony, that ends on a 6th string harmony fast run
Alice In Chains - Main In The Box - In C Standard.

We're looking for our first gig so since we'll likely be the opening band with 3-4 others we figure this is the right amount since we'll only get about 30-45 mins tops.

Well our band doesn't really have a 'setlist'. We just sorta play whatever of our songs that we want. We've got about 15 original songs and we don't really cover much (except for the unbelievable I Want You (She's So Heavy) by The Beatles).

EDIT: Our original tunes range from fast paced pop-punk songs to our (in my opinion incredible) 20 minute instrumental post-rock song with a few folk and jazz tunes mixed in.

07-15-2007, 05:14 PM

White Room by Cream is a great song to learn for newer bands, the guitar is easy, u can improv the end solo, the drums are decently simple along with the bass, and the vocals arent hard to nail, our band learned this whole thing in less than half an hour.

07-25-2007, 05:46 PM
Right now, we're still writing originals and deciding which covers to play. This is a general idea

1) Opening instrumental original (we don't have name for it yet)
2) original
3) "Ace of Spades" or "Bomber" by Motorhead, or "Medusa" by Anthrax
4) original
5) original
6) "Seek & Destroy" by Metallica, to end the set.

Thats the guidelines for our first gig. We plan on playing different covers at different gigs, to mix it up some.

The band still needs members, but the current members have been together for about 3 weeks.

08-17-2007, 10:10 PM
My two bands in order (just starting out with both bands, bear that in mind. That's why we play mostly cliché songs :p: ):

- Rock N' Roll - Led Zeppelin
- Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
- Don't Cry - Guns N' Roses
- Otherside - RHCP
- Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses

We projected them in this order to start out with something that will get the crowd on their feet, slow it a bit but keep it mid tempo with SOTW, slow it down for Don't Cry and Otherside, and playing the grand finale with Sweet Child.

7 vidas (all Uruguaian rock):
- Bienvenida al show - Hereford
- El Oro y La Maldad - La Trampa
- Tu Viejita - Trotsky Vengarán
- Los Secretos - Trotsky Vengarán
- La Piel del Lobo - Doberman

This setlist starts with a welcoming song ("Bienvenida al show" literally translates to "Welcome to the show"), connecting it with El Oro y la Maldad (a perfect fit, we merge them together). Then Tu Viejita has a drum and bass only part for introducing band members, Los Secretos gets the crowd going and La Piel del Lobo is an encore, as a grand finale also.

Clips of the song will be up by Monday on my profile ;).

08-18-2007, 02:06 AM
We don't really play that many covers, but here are a few we've rehearsed:

Your setlist sounds cool too. I'm loving those song titles. And oddly enough, my band was considering covering Beat on the Brat. Though I'm leaning more towards Sheena is a Punk Rocker.

Anyway, since we're listing original titles:
Elizabeth Cinnamon
In Your Sleep
Slow Down
Sleeping Pills
Just Out Of Reach
Like a Vicar

I'm a folk singer, so I don't really use a setlist. I have 11 original songs, so a 45 minute set ends up all being original material. If I get a longer set and can work in covers, it looks like this:

Oh, My Brother (Testify)
Shelter From The Storm - Bob Dylan cover
Johnny (Comes Marching Home)
Ballad Of 3000 Gone
Be Strong
Always On My Mind - Willie Nelson cover
Writing On The Wall
Every Time We Touch - Cascada cover
Cry Of A Country Gone To Waste
Back Home
Halleluya - Leonard Cohen cover
Ballad of a Thin Man - Bob Dylan cover
The Eagle's Nest

--Encore Break--
Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan cover
This Land Is Your Land - Woody Guthrie cover
This Is My World

^ A+ setlist man.

were a new band so we dont have much covers only 7 but if we did play a gig that only needed seven it would be

1. Angels of the Silences by Couting Crows
2. Anthem Part Two by Blink 182 (Originally I Could Have Lied but im the only one who wanted to play it here so if we make a longer setlist itll probably be on it.)
3. Heard the World by O.A.R
4. Slow Cheetah or Californication not sure which yet
5.Can't Stop
6. Everlong acoustic
and if by some chance we get an encore
7.Wet Sand

Our setlist for Battle of the Bands was:

Mississippi (Original song)
The Distance (Cake Cover)
Dendrites (Original song with an acapella ending!)
Peaches (Presidents of the USA)
And then a huge medley that was:
Man With The Hex
Highway Star
Dock of the Bay
Superman (Scrubs Theme)
Mrs. Robinson
G's and Hustlas
This is Why I'm Hot
Pinky and the Brain outro

I feel like I'm missing a song or two from the medley, but as I doubt we'll EVER play it again, it's fine.

Rockstar Lady - Fast to the point guitar riff , really hits you fast and is very catchy

Die Without Pride - A more meaningful song on war , or actually just being a teen and having a dream ripped from you.

Train Of Thought - Bass Driven song , very different from most of the stuff we play.

Gone - The ballad with a very emotional solo , chicks dig it , gets everyone settled in after the first 3 fast paced songs.

Mary - A funky'ish song , drum intro and in your face guitar solo at the start. Very heavy riff at the end with 2 guitars trading solos.

Keep On Rockin' - A song thats about , well guess? Keep rock n roll alive

Rebel - Guitar based song , with many fills and a long outro solo. Basically about not doing what you are told ,or conforming to the norm , rebelling against the odds.

One Hell Of A Ride - Just an all around rocker we usually come out with if we get an encore , its an older one of our songs and people know it

Recently we just started adding in covers , each member is picking his personal influence and we are gonna cover a song from the band. As of now we are doing

It's So Easy - Guns N Roses which we throw in before keep on rockin'

I haven't settled on my cover , it'll probably be a 'Tallica tune.

This is for my nameless alt rock band (not my experimental side-project, as featured in my sig),

Sooo I'm going to stick down all the things we play live, and stuff we are working on and/or thinking about doing live. Quite a wide range of styles but never mind huh lol

Going Under - Evanescence
Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bring Me To Life - Evanescence
The Reason - Hoobastank
We Will Rock You - Queen
History - Funeral For A Friend
Famous Last Words - MCR
"Untitled" - Original (An epic alt rock thing)
"Magic Coud" - Original (A punky alt thing)

We usually only get a set long enough to play the first three, soooo yeah...

Have fun!
