Advertising: popups & banners

Hello guys,

I'd like to report that we decided to make the following changes to the site ad policy:

a) Popups. Previously they were running from tablature, search, and artist pages. These were pages we allowed popups to appear from. Starting today, we've significantly reduced amount of popups on the site. Search results pages - popups removed completely. Tablature, Artist pages - set frequency capping. 1 popup per 12 hours. In most cases that would mean 1 popup per day.

b) Banner advertising. We've terminated agreements with several advertisers that we suspected were distributing spyware, browser hijacks, banners with sounds and extreme animation. As of today, there should be next to nothing of alike ads on the site.

c) Popup adverters. Same as above, we've left only a handful amount of advertisers that we will keep working with, but they should provide us with clean advertisement, free of any malware.

d) Majority of bad ads has been replaced with Goodle Adsense ads, which you know are just text ads.

Needless to say, it was rather a tough decision for us considering these advertising have been paying for the servers and our staff members' salaries. But we hope you will enjoy UG even more now and you will consider disabling ad blocking software when browsing Ultimate-Guitar.Com

Zappp you should go make an Announcement in The Pit to let everyone know about this. More people'll see it and therefore they'll turn off AdBlock.

EDIT: I was also playing a game that I found when I clicked on a banner. I like new UG already!

I actually never knew about Line 6 until i saw there ad for the variax bass guitar. I clicked. Happy? Cause i bought there bass pod!

I never had adblockers on becuase firefox gets rid of most of the popups. I can still see the banners though. Great job!
