Cheers!

Pentatonic Workout

NOTE: This is just a technique, not how to use this scale.
Theres enough on that already.

This should warm you up nicely!!!
You can also incorporate this into your solos.
You can do this in any scale or key of your choice.

Lets do it in A Minor...
E|---------------------5-8--8-5---------------------|
B|-----------------5-8----------8-5-----------------|
G|-------------5-7------------------7-5-------------|
D|---------5-7--------------------------7-5---------|
A|-----5-7----------------------------------7-5-----|
E|-5-8------------------------------------------8-5-|

That was the A Minor Pentatonic Scale.
Familiarize yourself with this shape
and shift it to different keys.
Play it as fast as you can - this will
help with the next phase...
Use the scales lessons if you are unsure
I expect there's some on this website.

Now we are going to go up in 3s like so:

e.g. 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 4 and so on...

E|-------------------------------------------------------5-----5--8--|
B|-----------------------------------------5---5-8--5-8-----8--------|
G|-----------------------------5---5-7-5-7---7-----------------------|
D|-----------------5---5-7-5-7---7-----------------------------------|
A|-----5---5-7-5-7---7-----------------------------------------------|
E|-5-8---8-----------------------------------------------------------|
1 2 3 2 3 4 3 4 5 4 5 6 5 6 7 6 7 8 7 8 9 8 9 10 9 10 11 10 11 12

And Back...

E|-8-5---5-----------------------------------------------------|
B|-----8---8-5-8-5---5-----------------------------------------|
G|-----------------7---7-5-7-5---5-----------------------------|
D|-----------------------------7---7-5-7-5---5-----------------|
A|-----------------------------------------7---7-5-7-5---5-----|
E|-----------------------------------------------------8---8-5-|

Once you have mastered that you can move onto going up in 4 steps and then 5!

Faster you are the better they sound but they do work slow too.

You can try it with other scales too like major (gives a totally different feel altogether):

E|---------------------------4-5--5-4---------------------------|
B|-----------------------5-7----------7-5-----------------------|
G|-----------------4-6-7------------------7-6-4-----------------|
D|-----------4-6-7------------------------------7-6-4-----------|
A|-----4-5-7------------------------------------------7-5-4-----|
E|-5-7------------------------------------------------------7-5-|

And you can REALLY show off with the blues scale!!!

E|-------------------------5-8--8-5-------------------------|
B|---------------------5-8----------8-5---------------------|
G|---------------5-7-8------------------8-7-5---------------|
D|-----------5-7------------------------------7-5-----------|
A|-----5-6-7--------------------------------------7-6-5-----|
E|-5-8--------------------------------------------------8-5-|

Nice, I think UG is kinda lacking this sort of stuff. The tab notation on the 'going up in threes' could be a little confusing for beginners, but that's all.

I would put stuff like this E|-------------------------------------------------------5-----5--8--|
B|-----------------------------------------5---5-8--5-8-----8--------|
G|-----------------------------5---5-7-5-7---7-----------------------|
D|-----------------5---5-7-5-7---7-----------------------------------|
A|-----5---5-7-5-7---7-----------------------------------------------|
E|-5-8---8-----------------------------------------------------------|
In between [ CODE ] [ / CODE]....
