Yeah. I am pretty much a shoe-in for the guitar spot in my schools jazz band. (thats not me being cocky, those are the spoken words of my band director)
I do have a few questions though.
1. What kind of chords are normally played?
2. Are there normally key changes?
3. How difficult is improvising jazz solos?

thx :peace:

Anything is fair game in jazz. Be it dominant chords, Extended chords or even altered chords

Key changes yea there are

for soloing just pay attention to key and chord progression and you shouldn't have a problem. Just know the tips fo chord progressions

Is there a certain style for jazz soloing?

The way i've seen it it that it varies on the song, rhythm of the chords and the over style of the music(such as boassa nova, swing, ballad etc. ). Just pay attention to how the song sounds, the rhythm and styles of the song, and the chords and work from there.

ok, I think I get it :peace:
I'll go and listen to some different jazz artists to get a feel for it.

Also alot of jazz songs wont haev a guitar solo. they'll mostly be trumpet, trombone or sax. The guitar has a solo every once in a while , so have fun when its your chance ; )

dominanth 7ths mainly, therefore, the mixolidian mode

just focus on the chord progression and the rythm and you'll be fine

i think i'll talk to the music teacher to see if we can start a school jazz band (hope it works)

for my jazz band (when i was in it) mostly the conductor would just have me solo on the bluesier songs, where i could just use pentatonic with some occasional blues notes. as far as chords just know all types of 7th chords.

Get The Jazz Theory Book by Mark Levine. It has helped me prepare for college in invaluable ways.

Is there a certain style for jazz soloing?

This is possibly an incredibly sweeping statement to make, but alot of passing notes.
