The other day I was listening to the Brian Setzer Orchestra and it hit me how cool it is that he leads a big band with a guitar. I have much adoration for the big bands of the Swing Era, but Mr. Setzer's style is just unique. I know the BSO has been around for about 13 years now ( and still going strong with a new album) and Setzer is an accomplished player, but I feel that he doesn't get enough mainstream popularity. I was just wondering if anyone else here agrees with me or has thoughts of their own. I'm all ears..

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels that way. It's quite cool to meet more Setzer fans. What's your favorite stuff from him? I personally love his Ignition! album. That's some good, stripped-down rockabilly.

Hey!!! I really dig BSO's music as well! His music has such a awesome sound. Great to see some of his fans showing their appreciation. :)

Damn, I didn't expect to find a thread on Setzer so soon. That's awesome. Hmm, favorites from him. I'd have to say his Nitro Burnin' Funny Daddy cd. I love that one. I've been playing guitar for about 10 years now and he's been a huge inspiration for me. I got the rockabilly sound down, I just want to venture to other areas of his playing. I've been trying to find some tabs of his Orchestra songs, but I haven't had any luck. Any of you know where to look? I appreciate any help. Thanks!

This must be the night for Setzer and the Cats. I already found two other threads for him. I was starting to think Setzer was being forgotten as a great guitarist lately. I can't believe how under appreciated he is.

Setzer is king! Not just cause the Orchestra has saxaphones (hooray for woodwind), but man, he has skill.

Setzer is my favorite guitar player. He combines all my favorite old guitar players into one kick ass rockabilly style. I just love everything he did, the BSO is amazing, combining rockabilly and big band stuff is genius. I think I liked him best with The Stray Cats. That was the ultimate trio. Lee Rocker is fantastic on the stand up bass and an inspiration for anyone who wants to try slap bass.

I love this video of Brian Setzer, its so cool how relaxed he is in it playin some really neat jazzy stuff.

I just saw Stray Cats opening for ZZ Top. It was amazing, they are the only openers I've seen do an encore. I need to find some CD's

That's awesome. I wish they played closer to where I live (Florida). I haven't heard of many openers do an encore. As far as cds to look for, try the Retrospective one. I believe its called Runaway Boys: '81 - '91. I could be wrong though.

No problem, just typing in Brian Setzer or Stray Cats into youtube comes up with a ton of videos.

There are two users on youtube that uploaded quite a bit of Brian Setzer stuff and a lot of other fantastic rockabilly groups.

Oh, yea, you're right. There is a lot of vids on there. I just watched the Stray Cat Strut video, then checked out a Live performance with the Orchestra. His playing style has not changed in the least. Cool stuff. That just gets me pumped for his new cd. Always ready to hear new stuff, you know what I mean?

I hear that's a good way to learn. Nothing like getting taught by the master, right? :D

What made ya want to learn to play a little like him?
