Any reccomendations of songs for a 3 piece band to cover? We like stuff from post hardcore/screamo to indie.
I play the guitar and sing, one plays bass, one plays drums. They would probably do backing vocals.

Preferably fairly modern music, and something that isnt too unknown.

Cheers

Agent Orange and Avail are two awesome bands that could be covered by a 3-piece.

that's funny, I've not heard of a single one of those 'songs'

depending on your audience, Smells like teen spirit would generally go down well

me and a band played Under the Bridge last year at a talent show and that went down well too.

I know you play newer stuff, but pretty much every band posted so far has been heavily influenced by Rush... plus, if you can sing and play Alex Lifeson's parts at the same time, girls will definitely want to get in your pants.

Okay, I counted one band that even sounded remotely like they were influenced by Rush.

Some Cream stuff maybe, The James Gang (Funk #49, Walk Away and The Bomber should, all be doable with 3 people) Led Zeppelin, too.

Try something by the Hives. Hate to Say I Told You So is a kick ass song.

Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes, is fun because you can just mess around with it and do anything you want.

For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metallica.

It's an easy but really awesome song, plus there's a lot of room for the bassist and drummer to really come through.
Easy to play and sing at the same time too.

You could also try Walk for the same reasons, but that one's a bit harder to play and sing at the same time (and the solo could be a problem if you're not a "virtuoso" yet ;) ).

I like the sound of Wolfmother, blink 182, and maybeee the fall of troy.

if you can really play, and if your drummer knows what pocket is, play some john mayer trio. you can jam for a long time on just one song.

hmm maybe snow patrol - run would be decent aswell.

and arctic monkeys - cigarette smoke.

i'll see what the others think of the fall of troy but the basist doesnt like screamo music :/ plus he is new to bass, he used to play guitar and the drummer is new.

Anything by:
Muse
Green Day
Nirvana
Motorhead
Sum 41
The Subways
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Ramones (Blitzkrieg Bop would go down well)

Play some of the stuff by the Foo Fighters and Lostprophets that only requires one guitar.

That's pretty much it from me. Good luck.

I don't. :(

I always feel so lonely in the Pit; everyone listens to this pop/rock bussines and I feel like the only metalhead.

Most people in the Pit like more of a range and it includes metal, but amongst other things. Well, ok, when I say most people, I'm really just speaking for myself, but other posts indicate it.

Also, Dead Star by Muse has some metal sort of touches to it. (So do Small Print, Stockholm Syndrome, Plug In Baby, Citizen Erased and some things off Showbiz.)

People saying "Anything by Muse" should take into account the amount of effects Matt uses, and the songs that contain mad piano parts.

But I'd say most anything by Greenday, Blink, Early Good Charlotte, Pennywise, New Found Glory, etc.
Offspring, too.
