Okay, so I like to play metal, but every f*cking band has to play in a different tuning. Since I play an Ibanez with a floyd rose bridge, i have to spend at least half an hour to change my tuning. SO, i wanna know of some bands that play in Standard tuning at least MOST of the time... can anyone help me out?

Early Metallica (Kill->Black)

Most of it is in Standard. The only one i can think of that is not is 'The Thing that Should Not Be', which is in Drop D.

Megadeth does alot tuned down half a step too. Iron Maiden pretty much only uses standard, as far as i'm aware.

Well if you want heavy in Standard, you need look no further than Judas Priest's Painkiller album.
Seriously.

Most 80s thrash is in standard.

And as we all know, that's the best kind of music :p: If you need more modern stuff, check out Municipal Waste.

+1. How much heavier can you get than the title track, or Night Crawler, or Metal Meltdown.

The only people who play in D are guys who need to compensate for their music's lack of awesomeness by tuning down and making it sound 'heavier'.

If your a serious whammy user, then that's understandable. But if you barely use your whammy bar, then get some cards or something, and block your floating bridge so it can't move. I did it and tuning takes me seconds :D.

"sigh" its not in drop d... thats a common misunderstanding

and for the TS, norther, opeth, megadeth, metallica (when they were good) and a lot of CoB is standard or one step lower but its still the same concept. only a few of there songs are played drop tuning. and correct me if im wrong but i think In Flames and old Soilwork is standard.

Then what is it? D standard? I always just thought it was drop D... That's what I play it in.

Also, I believe Nightwish's first album is mostly in stadard tuning. It has some pretty nice guitar work too. Fun to jam with.

exodus, testament, helloween, flotsam + jetsam, heathen, slayer, anthrax, megadeth, metallica, judas priest, mercyful fate, black sabbath, dio, ozzy, bls.

if anything just learn to play the songs in normal and then tune down. or buy another guitar and have one set tuned down a whole step and another tuned up to standard.
