As far as I know, he just uses standart pickups in his strats, so any sort of high end single coil pickup will suit - Fenders or Duncans would probably be best...

As pointed out in most tone threads, most of his tone comes from his amp - what are you playing through currently?

is tone seems like it comes from his fingers. i've seen him use lipstick tube pickups too.

I Use My SG, His Main Tone Comes From fingerpicking, honestly thats where he gets his sounds, and yes he uses soldanos and marshall stacks live, i use a vox and can still hit his sound

Texas Special single coil Strat pickups, but keep in mind he fingerpicks his leads.

I love the way he plays. And his tone. It's lovely. I often catch myself listening to Sultans of Swing more than I should do :p:

^^ You think? I'm tempted to give them a try when I get a Strat...

I would recommend very vintage tone and low output pickups. Very clean sounding ones. I would get those with a pretty "round" and soft character

Get one of the amps you have been considering before new pickups...

You will probably be able to get close to his tone from either of those with the pickups you have...

I know "tone is in the fingers" is bandied around all the time but it's never been truer than when trying to sound like Mark Knopfler...you won't get close unless you fingerpick his stuff no matter what your rig is.

He uses Lindy Fralin Vintage hots in some guitars, and even an EMG 81/SA/SA set in one of his guitars. I'd suggest the Fralins.

Get the new amp first. That'll make the bigger difference.

Well, once I have the new guitar and amp I'll evaluate the pickups and, if I decide that I want to replace them, I'll get in touch with CorduroyEW and see what he says.
