Hmmm I guess I'll go against the grain and not name one of the most generically popular songs by Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd or some other immensly popular band.

Basically, anything from Crosby Stills and Nash's first album, Suit Judy Blue Eyes, Helplessly Hoping, Guinnevere... etc

I would have defined an 'acoustic song' as 'no electric instruments'*.

No-one mentioned "Ripple" by the Grateful Dead yet? "Sounds Of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel? Maybe even "Jugband Blues" by Barret. "Elaenor Rigby" by the Beatles could even be considered 'acoustic' - violins form the majority of the sound. Speaking of Beatles, what about "Working Class Hero" by Lennon? A wide range of Dylan could be up there too, but my personal favourite is "Mr Tambourine Man". "My Wild Love" by the Doors is also an awesome song, but I don't actually think it has any sort of guitar it.

*Or at least, no prominent electric instruments. None whatsoever would probably disqualify too many songs.

The Beatles- A Day In The Life
The Beatles- Yesterday
The Beatles- Michelle
Eric Clapton- Tears In Heaven
Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd-Goodbye Blue Sky
Bob Dylan- Hurricane
Eagles- Hotel California
Led Zeppelin-Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You
Niel Young- Needle and the Damage Done.

I hate to go all technical on guitarhead, but I'm pretty sure Pink Floyd's "Is There Anybody Out There?" is played on a nylon string classical instead of an acoustic. I guess it could qualify, since they're both unplugged.

I'd call Bon Jovi a lot of things...all of them negative!
Sorry, I just can't stand Bon Jovi...why does this one crappy band get to go about their business, while every other crappy 80s big hair band has gotten theirs...

No offense to the poster, and I don't want to say anything else, because I don't want to cause trouble. I just have a huge case of Jovi-phobia.

x28064212x
05-26-2008, 10:17 AM
should we trust or even bother with the kid with Jovi-phobia and a P.diddy avatar in a rock thread?...
I suppose not...

acoustics are real big with the more recent bands now as well.. such as taking back sunday and the spill cnavas and stuff. It's like very album has to have a shadow acoustic version of itself to please the fans. i suppose it slipped in with the whole 'emo rock' phase who knows?

but these (most of the above) are good acoustics.

Tele Echoes

That's because David Gilmour's guitar playing dominates :D

Still, I'd like to make a notable mention to Roger Waters acoustic song "If", off of Atom Heart Mother.

Also, George Harrison's acoustic version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is glorious.

Delusion has:
wish you were here
redemption song
cocaine blues
layla
babe im gonna leave you
gallows pole
no rain (acoustic)

angie

Change to:
patience
redemption song

gallows pole
no rain (acoustic)
losing my religon
redemption song
cocaine blues
layla
angie

That is my top 10 good topic it was a lot of fun, thanks!
