im pretty sure you mean used right? get a project mustang from '68 and restore it by hand or get someone else to help you. I did, and its the sexiest car ive ever seen. ill never sell it. cost me 8000 for the car, and another $1000 to restore it by myself.
this option is more than 5000, but if you cant get laid in the backseat of the sexiest car every built, you lose. game over.

EDIT: also, i mean a project car that just needs EXTERIOR work. Engine/transmission work will end up costing you a lot more.

Toyota Celica would be perfect for you.

Albeit, it will be most likely used.

get a little porshe 914 and go to the junk yard. pull a 350 from 80-2006 camaro and throw it in.300 horses in a 1500 pound car.horsepower weight ratio through the roof.fastest car you could get. get some chassis supports, overtime dial the suspension, and that car will pwn all for initially $5000, over time maybe $7500.

a 914 will cost way more than $5000 even used.

You could always consider getting something that isnt TECHNICALLY a sports car, but can quickly be given a lot of speed. Take a volkswagon Golf, or a pocketrocket and stick a VR6 engine in it. light car, a **** load of speed. might cost you under $5000 all together.

athlete1
01-05-2008, 12:03 AM
they provide bolt on kits online, for $3000 dollars.you may be able to get the car for $2000,and adjusting suspension gets easy after a while, just ask someone near you for help.this is actually much easier than you would think with some help.

EDIT:look around.a car may look trashed but really isn't.another big tip is to go to police auctions.

ahh. i see. if your looking for speed, keep your golf and upgrade the engine to a VR6, and maybe suspension. If your looking to get laid, buy an old mustang (one with cosmetic work needed ONLY, otherwise stuff gets complicated and expensive) and restore it. you wouldnt believe how attracted women are to a 68 fastback.

You can get a Nissan 300ZX used for about 5000 BUT as soon as you get it you better change every fluid in that car and have the car checked out by a professional if it has over 100K miles.

The reason for this is that the 300ZX was a very expensive car back in the day and was considered a top performer among sports cars. It still outhandles most anything on the road, so if you find one used for less than 5000, it will probably have acccident history.

The reason for changing all fluids is that too many people are just too dumb to own a sports car and the TT engine will break down easily if it isn't maintained right.

You could also find a Z28 Camaro or an older Mustang GT, but they won't handle nearly as well and have sucky brakes. They do accelerate pretty good though, even though they drink fuel faster than you would believe. Also, they're quite heavy and don't have the suspension setup to match, so don't try any infamous twists until you have gotten a feel for how the car will understeer and how much body roll it will have.

Finally, look for a Celica. Very nice cars. They handle pretty well, and aren't slow for the powerplant they have, and they have lots of potential. Also, they're rather light so you can have a quick little car that really kicks ass on the windy mountain roads for that money.

Toyota Supra Mach III.
i have one =]
its such a high quality car they were
40,000 brand new but theyre at their lowest resale value right now
so if you buy one in like 10 years theyre gonna be collecters items.
its just a really really great quality car. its not a piece of **** that just
looks cool, like a mitsubishi eclipse or a mustang (not including old classic ones).

actually a Nissan 300zx is also a really good quality sports car at its lowest resale price
right now.

Good choice.

In Modified Mag in the Reader's Rides section, there's a Celica with 240 whp that weighs 2400 pounds, That's 10 pounds per horsepower, better than a Z28 Camaro, out of an average joe Toyota Celica. Also, with weight that low and the good stock suspension it comes with, it's probably a dream on the windy mountain roads.

A Celica is a good sport platform for 5Gs and should be just what you're looking for. With my experience, they're reliable and economical and are pretty quick, with pretty good handling too.

99-04 Mustang GTs, despite the disappointing numbers, are actually pretty fast. 220 whp from a 4.6 liter V8 isn't anything to brag about, but it's got torque and doesn't weigh too much, so it will easily out-accelerate the Celica, but will not handle quite as well. hey also have potential. The block can handle over 450 hp reliably, and with all bolt-ons it will have about 310 horsepower, which is closing in on that 10:1 power-weight ratio. A quality supercharger, along with longtube headers, a cat-back exhaust, and high-flow fuel injectors will put it at well over 400 horsepower without a tune.

I have a Cougar. It's not a bad little car. Definitely hauls some ass when you want it to. But I've got one from the mid-90's. I like the look of the newer ones a lot better, but I heard they aren't as fast.

Look into Tunderbirds from the same era. Those are sweet, and IMO they look a lot better than their Cougar equivalents.

i didnt say all of them are ****. just the ones from the late 70s- to like 2004 becuaes theyre cheap american budget plastic sports cars that rely on the reputation of their predecessors. (the brand new ones finally did something right)

supras sell for 2 - 3 times as much money as mustangs do.

The 5.0 87-93 mustangs are really good. I bought one for my second car. They are fast and cheap to make faster. They are also the cars that restarted aftermarket performance parts, and are very reliable.

Yeah, my friend got a Z28 for $4500. They're pretty fast and have a lot of torque, especially for the money you can get them for these days. And they are pretty reliable. They're just a little heavy and have too muc body roll IMO, so they understeer quite a bit but it's not really noticeable for regular sport driving and speeding.

Your wallet won't be on your side though, because they drink alot of gas and I'mguessing you're about to be in college, right?

Was that a joke? Toyota Supras are very, very expensive, and worth every penny. They're one of the most popular sport platforms and not only handle like a dream, they haul ass. They also have so much potential. Mustangs don't even compare to Supras.

Mustangs aren't bad, but they aren't all that they're cut out to be. Look at the 99-04 GTs... they have a 4.6 liter V8 pumping out 220 hp to the wheels. That's not very impressive. That's about 50 hp per liter. By comparison, the Toyota Supra's n/a 3 liter V6 puts out 220 whp and the turbocharged one puts out over 320, and runs a 1/4 mile in 13 seconds flat bone stock at 110 mph. The turbo Supra hits 171 mph bone stock. Supras are very good cars.

clearly the 70's -04s are garbage. thats why they have a low reputation among even mustang fans. the supras are a V6. they have about as much torque as my John Deere out in the backyard. maybe im prejudiced though. i really dont like the rice rockets. i cant explain it...i just dont.

he is right the first car i looked at when i was turning 16 was a 2001 Mustang GT 5 speed the car handled like shiit and had no power compared to my sc my sc is 6 years older 1.6 liters smaller but way faster my kill list stock is:
various GT's
2000 Camaro Z28
1987 Iroc-Z
multiple civics
multiple integras
multiple celicas

bone stock the car will do 147 mph..not bad
i generally get about 18-19 mpg in the city and up to 26-27 mpg highway
parts come cheap unless you do the 1997 body conversion which looks like this
