Similar to MMW is a band called Weather Report. Their band leader, the late and great Joe Zawinul at the keys and synth. Check them out! I recommend the albums Black Market or Heavy Weather.

I don't think Weather report is similar to mmw at all really. Try Garage a Trois, they are very similar. Guitarist is amazing too.

Bands similar to MMW would be Garage a Trois, Garaj Mahal, Organissimo, Charlie Hunter Trio, and Soulive. All great groups that do a lot of funky improv stuff, although not all of them are totally organ driven.

Also check out A Go Go by Scofield with MMW, great album.

Yea Weather Report is quite different from MMW.

dividedsky gave a good list there. I'd like to add Robert Walter's 20th Century Congress, Stanton Moore Trio, and Galactic to it.

Weather report isn't anything like MMW. Check out Soulive. I saw them recently, and man, they put on one hell of a show.

I've heard a lot of good things about Eric Krasner, their guitar player.

It's Krasno, but yes, he's a great guitarist.

I forgot two other bands which I'd have to mention here.

The ever-evolving Greyboy Allstars and this very very talented young band, called Ripplegroove (they're all Berklee alumni, but thankfully they don't play prog metal).

Ripplegroove actually changed their name to Redux a month or so ago, all the same musicians though. Also check out Benevento-Russo Duo. Some of their stuff has a pretty similar vibe.

i saw Soulive live, too, and they're nothing like Medeski, Martin, Wood at all really. Soulive is jam rock. MMW is more of a jazz/fusion group.
