Anyone else a fan of Walter Trout? I am watching his "Relentless" dvd at the moment :)

Yup. I went to his gig two months ago. I bought his 'Full Circle' album, and got it autographed too.

^ Nice. I am quite into his " Life in the Jungle" album at the moment. His violining technique is amazing :)

Oh shit. Walter Trout is amazing. In some of his songs, you can really tell that he was greatly influenced by SRV. He can rip it up too. :)

Hell yes he can. He is quickly becoming one of my favourite guitar players :)

Walter Trout rocks! Saw him along with Bernard Allison at a blues fest awhile ago. You guys should give Bernard a listen. I prefer him over Trout, don't judge him on the videos on youtube though, they are bad quality, check him out on Itunes or something.

I remember seeing him on one of the guitar magazine cd-roms (cant remember which), and I didnt care for him at all. His tone was buzzy and his playing was sloppy.

Was he just having an "off" day? Can anyone recommend me something of his that would impress me?

Thanks. It's dirt cheap on Amazon, so I think I'm gonna pick it up.

Btw, Johnny, I have been meaning to post those Hendrix bootlegs, but my main pc's power source blew up again (for the third time). But this time it burned most of the case pretty bad. I have someone working to recover the HD (which has ALL my music  ), so hopefully I'll be able to post them soon.

I saw him live at the casino in Thief River Falls.

For free. Can't beat that!

He's awesome. He can shred like the best of them, and his drummer is insane.

Walter Trout is fantastic. Only really started listening to him 2 years ago, but my Dad has been a huge fan since he first heard one of his songs on the radio like.. 15+ years ago and he's been going to his gigs like.. every year since. I've been to two of his gigs now, can't wait for the next. The man is just such a great entertainer and his style is blistering.

He's also a really nice bloke, at the last gig I was at he and the whole band hung out after the gig until the place had to close, they all chatted to us but Walter was really awesome to me, cos naturally playing guitar he took up interest. He was telling me that no matter what just always keep playing and keep true to yourself, he gave me one of his guitar picks out of his pocket too, it had his name written on it but I used it so much that's kinda worn off now, I like the pick though as the colour matches my guitar. He also talked to my dad and aunty who were saying how many times they'd been and he was hugely greatful that they'd kept following him all these years.

Also his wife runs a management business under his name, and the woman who was talking to him before me had given him a demo cd the year before and was asking him about it. He not only remembered her, but had put the CD on his iPod, had listened to it enough to have a favourite track and everything, told her to get in touch with his wife if she was really serious about it all. Absolute legend. I need to pick up the Full Circle album for my dad, sounds like a really good CD.

Oh yeah, he's got a new drummer btw... the last one was so cool though :(

Blayney
02-24-2008, 05:21 AM
It's not just that he's a great player, it's that he's a damn fine entertainer. He's just so good at getting you interested and loving the band, and the way he is with that strat, it's really an extension of his arm. You can tell every minute he's on stage he loves it, he was absolutely made for it. Fantastic all round.

johnny_tapia
02-24-2008, 11:45 AM

Blayney

He's got that down to an art now, and he will do it in atleast 2 songs haha.
Usually get a nice solo break from everyone in that band actually. I've got a video from the last gig I went to of Walters, and the drummer just does this mint solo, t'is fantastic. If I can I'll upload it somewhere for you to see.

Wow you were pretty close to the front weren't you? Looks like a briliant gig. Where was it?

Blayney
02-27-2008, 04:02 PM
I was like a person from the front haha, stood with the guitarist/singer of the support band Blue Monday.

It was in the Glee Club in Cardiff Bay. Normally he'd play the coal exchange, which is a lot bigger but it closed down for refurbishment, he was the last person to play there - that place was an awesome gig. But the glee club was smaller which made it a bit more intimate, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

02-27-2008, 04:07 PM

Nearly 4 months and still Walter is getting ignored.
I don't understand how he's not more popular, the guy churns out great albums every couple of years, and tours 120+ dates every year consistently, yet still doesn't seem to get all that much recognition.

I could've gone to one of his gigs a couple of years ago but I didn't manage to get the ticketes in time.
Next time I see him gigging, if I can get someone to go with me (if not, I'll drag my dad, he's about the only person near by who likes blues that I know! :p: ) I'll have to go to it.

My ears are still ringing... what a show.

Punk_Ninja
10-25-2010, 07:30 PM
Saw him tonight at Derby Assembly rooms.
Was a great show!
When he said "We're going to play one from Rory Gallagher", me, my Dad and my dad's work friend all erupted into cheers with like one or two others in the whole venue doing the same.
It really made the night.
What made it even better, is after the show we spoke to him, like my Dad told him about how he drove Rory and how I'm named Rory and stuff like that, which he was thrilled about, it turns out Water had been looking around youtube at Rory Gallagher videos, he saw "I Wonder Who" and decided, just on the spot, that they'd do that track at tonights show as a tribute. It was really something. Quite happy that it was this show he decided to do it too!

He also got Oli Brown up and the drummer from Ten Years Younger up for a jam.
I hate Oli Brown, and as per usual he played one lick for the whole of the jam.
But it was still pretty cool, a nice atmosphere and a great show!

He seems really cool too. As most blues guitaists I meet do, he made a "you're the future" kind of comment and told me to keep playing from my heart and stuff.
Was just real cool.

Blayney
04-07-2011, 04:14 PM
Somewhere I have a Trout leaflet with "Jamie, always play from your heart. Walter" written on it.

I also have the 25 years of hardcore blues album signed. and me and my gf both have picks from him.

and here's a horrendous photo of Walter and I together

Better to necro than start a new thread, right?

My cousin tells me good songs every once in a while and I look em up and listen to em, and this time it just so happened to be Walter Trout's After Hours.

I'm typing this as I listen to it and it's awesome. Crazy blues guitar and insane keyboard solos. I can already tell I want to hear more. Reminds me of Bonamassa.
