Alright I know this was done a while ago, but different people means different responses and interesting discussion. I think I can bring it up again, and I didn't feel like bumping the old thread. Close this if needed. So what other genres other than punk do you listen to?

Well most of the genres I like at least have something to do with punk

Emo
Indie
Rap and Hip Hop
A tiny bit of Classic Rock(only The Doors, The Who, and Blue Oyster Cult)
Some Glam
New Wave
Surf Rock
Some modern rock
and a couple random bands like The Fall Of Troy

RizzoWashburn

Ska, Glam, Thrash Metal, Reggae, Blues, and Surf Rock

I've started listening to some screamo lately.

I listen to a lot of different music. Emo, indie, reggea, hip hop, new wave, folk, older country, a couple of modern rock bands, blues, some classice rock (CCR, the Who, BOC, and the Doors), power pop, synth pop, garage, soul/rnb (Al Green, Marvin Gaye),and some bands that I'm going to tell the punk forum.

Ah yes, I forgot some synth and power pop. I just think of garage as part of punk, but it is different. About the screamo check out Hot Cross and I Hate Myself. Both awesome bands. Chat?

As much as I hate to admit it, I really, really like Metalcore, Mathcore and the like. I also enjoy some Hip Hop, Reggae, Indie, Folk, and some random bands like Primus and RHCP. If it has a good bassist I'll probably like it as well.

Garage, hip hop, blues (preferably acoustic), indie (if that's even actually a genre), folk, roots music in general, jazz, select classic rock, select ska, some alternative (if that isn't the broadest possible label...), select country, rockabilly, American primitive, tiny bit of flamenco (trying to get into it), soul, gospel, hopefully getting into classical...

Death Metal
Grindcore
Crust
Gore Grind
Old School Rap

Jazz, Reggae, Funk, Soul, Stuff with Synthesizers, Hip Hop, Classic Metal, Classic Rawk, non pretentious indie.

That's a basic outline.

If you want to win my heart you should have synthesizers, horn arrangments, and back up choirs.

It's the reason I like certain Phil Collins, Tom Jones and Barry White singles.

They know wassup.

Blues: I dislike Gary Moore and I like The Doors, even though theyīre maybe no real Blues
New Wave: The Stranglers and Thatcher on acid are good, sometimes I listen to a bit Talking Heads, Synthesizers are F U C K
Rock: The Doors if theyīre not Blues, the newer Neil Young (Mirrorball), Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix

Grunge - I use this as an umbrella term for alternative bands from that era, because if I say "alternative," people assume I mean ****ty bands like Three Days Grace and Seether, when I'm actually referring to Jane's Addiction, Faith No More, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, etc.
Alternative - 90s stuff (see above) and some classic alternative like the Wipers, the Melvins, and Dinosaur Jr.

I like some silly shredding, but sometimes it just pisses me off/bores me. And sometimes it makes me laugh.

Best solos are the short fast sloppy ones. Like, 10 seconds of randomness :p:

Oh, and HIGH FIVE HEY ZEUS! Janes Addiction ftwJane's Addiction is great

maybe you're listening to the wrong stuff. Because the attitude of rap and punk are pretty similar

(Public Enemy!?!?)

yeah... except Public Enemy are full of **** and are the epitomy of sellouts.

the attitude is realy simular actually
punk

rap

I still love Public Enemy. And to whoever said they didn't like rap, you just haven't heard the right rap and hip hop most likely. There's a lot out there that's amazing, it really is a great genre.

I love hip-hop, but I rarely listen to Public Enemy. I respect how important they were and whatnot, but the actually music bores me.

Wu Tang is my favorite.

Well, they have a couple boring albums, but they have a bunch of great stuff, and "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" is one of my favorite albums of all time.

The Wu do have some of the sharpest emcees there are. But Liquid Swords is better than The Wu's debut. >_<

I like a few songs, but I think it's just their whole style that doesn't really excite me. Like Fight the Power is probably their most famous song, and the beat is just one annoying tone the whole time.

Have you listened to the Gravediggaz? I've probably already asked you that, but anyway, I think I might like 6 Feet Deep more than 36 Chambers.

And, yeah, I love 36 Chambers. GZA is my favorite Clan member, for sure. I know I'm in a minority, but I've never really seen what all the hype about Raek and Ghostface Killah is. RZA and GZA lyrically dominate them.

I've been meaning to get some Gravediggaz, but I haven't yet. But seriously buy Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx album, RZA does the production, so you know it's good. That's why people love both Ghost and Rae. But besides that, everything is mediocre...

Cypress Hill pwn Ghostface Killah, even if Ghostface is pretty gangster.

I'm embarrassed to say I've only heard like two Wu Tang songs. What's their best album?

And in terms of hip hop, I've been listening to Wyclef Jean quite a lot lately. I heard his song "If I Was President" on Chappelle's Show a while ago and been into him ever since.

That's a sweet Wyclef song. He had something to do with the Fugees, right?

Anyway, get Enter the Wu Tang: 36 Chambers. Then get Liquid Swords by the Gza, then 6 Feet Deep by the Gravediggaz, and so forth.

And I'm gonna check out Cuban Linx. I've heard a couple songs, but I'll give the whole thing a listen.

The beats on his albums are normally better than the other wu solo albums IMO.
